I think season 2 is over and they're in their offseason.

| #4 Posted on 24.2.04 2318.40 Reposted on: 24.2.11 2318.40 | Holy Jee-zus, was Season #2 AWFUL of Slamball. The only point of redemption was Bill Simmons' (among others) prediction of the mother of all knee injuries occurring in the try-out show.
Slamball became a favorite of mine during Season 1, with the good flow and action. Up and down the court with no stalling action, spectacular dunk attempts and block attempts almost every time down. An oddly good environment in that weird gym, despite the American Gladiator or Robot Wars-like crowd. Or that ridiculous Roller Derby comeback show in the early '90's ("It could be DEVASTATING!").
Major flaws emerged in Season 2 that completely took the soul and the fun out of the game/show/whatever:
- The outdoor arena was absolutely dreadful. Felt like a contrived version of the courts at Muscle Beach. - The guest NBA commentators had the "I'm getting cash for this, right?" zeal. Big ups to Shawn Marion, who I think might be clinically dead. - Biggest complaint of all: I bailed on the show after finding it to be dreadfully boring, but what was with all the perimeter passing and standing around on offense? It was like watching a couple of college basketball teams that are overly reliant on the three. I didn't watch long enough to determine if there was a rule change besides the elimination of the three-point line responsible for this change, but MAN, the game is freaking SLAMball.
I hope if there is a Season 3, they can move back towards the look and feel and flow of the game from Season 1.
Season 1: Fun to watch, guilty pleasure. Season 2: Utterly unwatchable abortion. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
