Pure classic finisher: Jake Robert's DDT. He delivered that baby like whiplash and sold it. Remember when Mean Gene asked Roberts what "D.D.T." stood for, and Jake replied, "The End."

Other good finshers that come to mind:
The Perfectplex
Goodnight Irene
Tazmission (for sheer enthusiasm!)

Honorable mentions, for Gimmicky fun:
Shake, Rattle and Roll
Shattered Dreams

And you can put this on the short-list for worst all time wrestling moves, thought not necessarily a "finisher": Junk Yard Dog's Crawling Head-Butt.

Tajiri's finishing kick to the head just looks and sounds incredibly stiff... if wrestling was "real," he could kill someone with a well-placed kick like that.

The Brock Lock is so effective because there's really no way to get out of it... Lesnar's weight is on the other guy, and the leg is over Brock's head, so you're basically immobile and forced to tap/pass out. I wonder if he'll try that vs. Goldberg.

Jericho's Walls of Jericho used to be good... it's more of a Boston Crab now, but before it looked like there was a lot of pressure on the neck and back.

Of course... there is no finisher that could ever exceed the sheer brutality of the Berzerker's devastating finishing maneuver of just throwing his opponent out of the ring and letting him be count out.

But Doink used the Stump Puller, too, and that's one of the truly great submission moves.

If you're referring to the video clip where Brock flies halfway across the ring and successfully hits the Shooting Star Press, I believe it's from Ohio Valley.

Is Heresy still wrestling? I kinda lost track of his career after I moved away.

As far as finishers, my personal fave is Victoria's Widow's Peak (natch!).

I've got to say the Widow's Peak has become a favorite of mine over the past month or so...every time I see it I think "damn! that's impressive." I also enjoy the fact that one of the best finishers is done by a woman, props to my girls (natch)

And CLEARLY if I didn't say Crippler Crossface, you'd have to question my screen name!!

Those two are my faves...but I also have to agree with the people that say the SSP is one of the most visually appealing :)

Personally, I've got to give it to Angle's Ankle lock with the leg scissors. He's only used this variation a few times, and no-one has escaped from it. It has the added advantage that when he uses the regular Ankle lock as a finisher, and not just a set up move, it's a big dis on his opponent, ie "I don't need to put the leg scissors on to make you tap, you're no Benoit". The best example of this is Lesnar at Summerslam.

The always orginal and never quite duplicated to the perfection of the way he did it is the DDT by Jake "The Snake" Roberts. He might not have won gold with it but it's effectiveness can't be questioned to much over the 80's. Some matches on Raw over the past year ended with a quick snap DDT. Glad Jake invented it.

Downward Spiral/Flatliner.
Could be done really fast, and I always liked it.

I don't like the version I've seen Scott Steiner do.

Will give it up for the Perfect Plex, and Jake the Snake's DDT. And Piledrivers, because well... they're good.

But remember Scott(First name I forget) Norton, a larger guy who was a NWO member early on, but his Shoulder Breaker looked like it you'd need a cast afterwards.

Maybe there should be a second thread for the Tag Team moves. I will offer up the Walls of Jericho/Crossface that Jericho and Benoit did.

Back in my mark days, I was partial to the Pearl River Plunge. That, and Sean O'Haire's Swanton Bomb (which you do have to admit, is pretty impressive for someone his size).

1) A lot of people have said it, and i'm inclined to agree. The Widows Peak does look pretty nasty, even though it would only hurt their knees =\

2) Swanton Bomb. when Jeff got on that turnbuckle, and the crowd rose up in the background, and then he came flying off, almost in slowmotion, that was great. (ps, i miss Jeff)

3) Chokelsam. this is a tried and tested move, and i love the way Kane stalks his opponent, waiting, arm cocked in the air. great move.

4) The Last Ride. damn, you wanna talk abotu impact? this is the move that make the mat scream in pain.

5) Twist of Fate. always liked this move (points to my name) and always will

WORST.

1) Stinkface. eww, enough said.

2) The Worm. the crowd love it, but it wouldn't do bugger all.

3) The Clothesline from Hell. wrestlers eat clotheslines night in and night out, and it's one of Bradshaws main offensive weapons anyway, what makes this one so different?

well, I can only think of 3 that annoy me.
ohwell.

Looks like I'm coming late to this dance, but I'll chip in a few thoughts.

Best:
1) Diamond Cutter. Page could hit it from nearly anywhere at any time, which I always like, and the way he hit it... Um... Randy still has a LOT to learn from watching tapes of Page.

2) 450 Splash. Yeah, the SSP may look more graceful and is probably tougher to perform, but the 450 looks like it hurts the receiver a lot more because of the illusion of added impact, yet it appears to be a lot safer than the SSP. See Brock's attempt at the SSP and all of the SSP's Kidman botched in WCW. Conversely, I think I only saw Juvi screw up the 450 once.

3) Saturn's DVD. As someone else noted, smooth, fluid, and brutal. Just about everything Saturn did pre-WWF could be described this way, but that's a rant for another time.

4) Harlem Hangover. It's a shame Book can't use this one often anymore cuz of his knees, because this is a marvel to behold.

5) Walls of Jericho/Liontamer. Now it's a plain Boston Crab, and not a very good one, at that. Back in the day, though, it was simply the most painful looking submission in this business, with the way he bent the opponent putting big pressure on the back, neck, and even the knees. Added bonus, once Jericho had it fully locked in, it looked impossible to get out of, which puts it way above most other regularly-used submissions.

Worst:

1) The Worm. Don't get me wrong, I actually like the move for the sake of the effect it has on the crowd. If it were just a move used mid-match, and if a big move were used to set it up, I'd absolutely love it. As it's used now, though, it's just a very bad finisher.

2) FU. Yay. A delayed fireman's carry. *yawn*

3) X-Pac's Facebuster. The poor-man's Pedigree, but without all the weight crashing down on the opponent's head and without the ways to keep him from "blocking" the move. Terrible.

4) Tequila Sunrise. A sloppy half-crab, only Konnan started at the arm, which is then only loosely pinned, and he was off to the side, giving less leverage on no weight on the back. Give me an ordinary half-crab any time. Those at least distribute the applier's weight more evenly over the receiver and make it look ALMOST painful.

5) Meng's/Haku's Tongan Death Grip. Grabbing someone's chin is a finisher?!

Best thing about the Burning Hammer is that Kobashi RARELY uses it, so, when he does hit home, you know it's OVER.
