Who was the backup for the Monday night game - Anderson? I thought he looked really good for at least that game. It could be the system and not the back - they better be pretty sure though to let Portis go.

I know Quentin Griffin (or is it Griffith), a former OU Sooner, ran for 120+ in a game for the Broncos last year when Portis went down.

That's what Napoleon Shanahan is banking on, but one can only use that excuse for so long, especially since Alex Gibbs is now with the Falcons and a few of those linemen could potentially be on the decline.

What amazes me about this trade is all the talk about how the Broncos were schooled in the playoffs by the Colts. It seems folks are forgetting the fact that Denver absolutely shut down Indy just two weeks before.

So the question I have is "Is the defense REALLY as bad as it looked in the playoffs?" If not, why in the world would you deal Portis?

My fear is that the loss of Alex Gibbs (maybe the greatest OLine coach ever) will spell the end of the "plug a guy in and have him run for 1,500 yards" days.

As a Broncos fan, I'm very begrudgingly willing to give "The Mastermind (yes, that's sarcasm) the benefit of the doubt.

I just wish he had made one single good personnel move in the last five years that didn't involve a RB.

It has less to do with the defense and more to do with Portis complaining about his contract. Maybe if Portis had gone a different way about dealing with his contract, we wouldn't be talking about a trade. And the more I think about it, the more I absolutely hate this trade. If I were running the Broncos I'd be more than glad to give Portis his dough--you just don't give up great backs like him, even if it does bring us a shutdown corner, which we were never able to obtain through the draft because Shanahan is a fuck-up, and for once I'd like for him to step to the podium after a game and tell everyone, "I'm an incompetent ass, and I couldn't have won those two without Elway and Davis."

If the Broncos tank again this season (ie, miss the playoffs by a hair), this is Shanahan's one-way ticket out of town.
