Seeing as these were the 2 companies losing the most subscribers when porting went into effect this makes sense, but does this affect their service?
Prior to the merger, AT&T & Cingular were rated as having the worst service of all of the major providers. (I had AT&T & can at least personally attest to half of that...) Does the merger also give them the most tower strength, or does it just give them the most subscribers & not the most powerful network (which currently belongs to Verizon)? AT+T also did not work. In fact, Verizon was the only carrier that we could get a signal inside the old apartment. I'm now in a different house some 5 miles away, and the same thing applies. So when I get the money again to get a new service, I will definitely go with Verizon. | drjayphd

So that's pretty much a wash for Cingular. I'd switch, but only if I could find something with one-year contracts. Two years seems a touch long for me. | DrOp

Verizon has around 87% of the nation covered and if you want, you can basically skip having a home number and just use your cell.
I think Nextel and Verizon are the two the will survive the madness, but I could be wrong. | DJ FrostyFreeze

| #9 Posted on 18.2.04 1409.07 Reposted on: 18.2.11 1409.15 | Well, thats only sorta true. If you're standing in front of Mrs. Freeze's dresser or on "The Magic Carpet", which is the little throw rug in front of the bookcase thingy that the house phone & answering machine are on in the livingroom, the signal is halfway clear just long enough for you to tell whoever is calling to call back on the house-phone. Or if you're un-lazy enough, you can go stand outside in the courtyard, where the signal is always crystal clear.
I dont know, not getting a cell signal at home never really bothered me because I never use my cell phone at home anyway.
And thanks for having my back, DrOp.

Chris and I tried Cingular phones and took them back the next day. It wasn't just that we had zero reception in any place other than the Cingular store, the kicker was when we could neither call nor text message each other even when we were sitting in the same room.
I've had AT&T Wireless for about five years but haven't recommitted to a long-term contract with them, which is I guess now a good thing. But I don't want to give up my NYC number either, which I think I'd have to do if I got new service locally. I gotta keep the 917. | JayJayDean

People in Redmond are pretty upset that Vodafone didn't buy AT&T Wireless, thinking that since Vodafone is British they could've made Redond its UPS headquarters, as opposed to Cingular, which will like downsize the Redmond operations and move most of the management jobs to Atlanta.

So as long as they stay in business, I'll be happy.
