me myself has been a nintendo fan ive had all of the systems. but nintendos lost its touch it makes lots of kid games im 14 13 so i dont play those i dont own a xbox or ps2. i play the computer now it has tons of games. nintendo was favorite but the new thing there releasing they better make it work good or there gone. with sony making a handheld. nintendos only thing keeping them on the market is the gameboy. nintendo had its time for the last 20 something years now theve lost their touch and there about to be wiped off the market totally.

Nintendo has been making games for over a hundred years, I don't think they're much in danger of anything at this point.

Looking at sales figures, it looks like GC has either drawn even with or surpassed Xbox sales and installed user bases, depending on which report you look at.

Regarding handhelds, I think the PSP has a very, very tough road to go. Early rumors have its price point at $300. Y'know what else started at $300? N-Gage. And we all know how that giant taco has swept the nation. And call me crazy, but the DS seems like a really inventive, fun idea. Not to mention that Nintendo has a massive coffer of cash they're sitting on. They're not going anywhere.

i know nintendos doing good now im sayig is that later on maybe this year maybe not, they will start to lose sales then blow all there money on something expensive trying to save it.

i agree with on the GBA sony thing i never thought of it that way. still its like a playstation in your hands its kinda worth it. the n-gage thing sucked i dare someone to call anyone on that banana thingy. back to nintendo, it will take them a few years but eventually they will be gone.

The problem with the N-Gage wasn't its initial price point. The problem, as you pointed out, is that it sucked as a phone, which was part of its multifunctionality justifying that price point. The whole pitch behind the N-Gage was that it was for people who didn't want to look dumb in public playing a Gameboy. So it made them look dumb in public talking on the phone. And I really don't think anyone thinks the GBASP's are all that bad looking anyway.

Nintendo will be fine so long as their first party software sales can offset any losses on the console side. So long as they make games that are enjoyable by any demographic, then they'll be okay.

I honestly think Sony and Microsoft will fallout before Nintendo does.

Nintendo puts all their effort towards their systems and game related material. I agree with the kiddie colors and whatnot, but it doesn't have much to do with actual gaming. Most of their best games are fairly kiddy.

Video gaming is just a small branch of Sony, They scored excellent 3rd party devolopers, and brought their machine at a perfect time. Psp will probally bomb. And I imagine Nintendo, and possibly but maybe not Microsoft will catch up to units sold in the next generation of consoles or two.

Xbox just seems to be a Novelty for Microsoft thats turning out to be ok. Who knows what will happen with the Box in the next ten years. I'll still be playing it.

Pal Dreamcast is where it's at, just for UNDUBBED Shenmue. And the system is 20$ You can buy legal Ps1(gran turismo 2 looks nice on Dc) and Snes Roms for it also. Depressing how short it's time lasted, and how hot the freakin thing gets.

It's frankly a waste of time to talk about which company/system will die. Companies are never completely secure, and you never know when the next innovation will come out of nowhere to replace the dominant players in the industry.

The N-Gage quickly became a self-fulfilling prophecy, because it clearly had many fundamental problems right from the start. The PSP is still a ways off, but it's looking promising so far, at least from a hardware standpoint. A portable system sporting fully 3d graphics could turn the industry on its ear, or it could go the way of the Atari Lynx, which greatly surpassed the GameBoy technologically, but could never gain a foothold in the market. I have a feeling the PSP will do well; even if it doesn't immediately take off in the States, the Japanese seem to love both handheld gaming and Sony. Even the pricy PSX home entertainment center (plus ps2) sold out over there.

I wouldn't say nintendo is a failure. If they were a failure, we wouldn't be talking about it right now because it would already be gone

Nintendo has a lot of history behind it, from those old NES's (and anything else they made before that, im not that old) were pretty good at that time. I think the N64 did well, but i personally think that people think nintendo is failing because it has more competition. PS2, X-Box, the PC, and anything else that you people might think of. Its just that they have more pressure (least i think) then they have had before, and some games (halo, half life, cs, and those other games that aren't on any nintendo console), and upcoming games (halo 2, half life 2, doom 3, etc.) have driven some of the hype away from nintendo.

I agree. How many car companies are there in the world? Is Ford failing because Toyota sells cars?

If Nintendo is selling games at a profit, then they are not failing. I can't believe that they aren't profitting on the Game Cube. Because of this, I'm pretty sure that they will keep making games for it. Sure, they'd probably like MORE profit, but I doubt they aren't making any.

Why, are the millions of people who already own GBAs just suddenly going to stop using them?

Nintendo already has a new handheld that's going to be released later this year, which features 2 screens. It's *not* a replacement for the GBA, however. GBA games will still continue to be made and the chances of those games selling well are somewhere in the 100% range.

Nintendo hasn't even released an original Zelda game for Gameboy Advance yet, or an original "standard action" Mario game, either. If they were to do either of those, it would most likely outsell anything Sony could possibly put out on a handheld system.

Actually, now that I think about it, what is YOUR definition of the word 'failure' human_pig?

Nintendo is one of the more deeply (or maybe the deepest) rooted video game companies i believe in the world today. They have much more experience in the the gaming industry than sony has in both the console and handheld gaming department.

Companies aren't 'failing' just because they are not making as much money as they usually do.

And InVerse does have a point. Nintendo has lots of SNES games and things like that they have in reserve for the GBA and the new handheld they are developing that would easily outdo anything sony can come up with (its going to be hard to put games from the PS on their new handheld i imagine)

Nintendo deals with games and gaming technology (and other stuff they do that I might leave out because its me). Sony, on the other hand, sells a wider variety of products, so they will never be as good as nintendo (i think)

the funny thing is, Nintendo doesn't even have to release new titles for these franchises. People are perfectly happy to buy up the GBA ports of the existing games, which should also attest to the strength of both the games and the brands themselves.

But that's what Sony is claiming that the PSP will be able to do. It may be hard, but it can't be impossible. Given Sony's experience with portable consumer electronics* (it may be old school, but these are the people who introduced the concept with the walkman), if they can get PS-like output from a relatively small device that can also play MP3's and video in a proprietary format, I see no reason why the device won't be successful. And, unlike the N-Gage, if it successfully delivers at all the it claims it can do, then it could easily command a $299 price tag. And that would be wonderful, because to continue the car analogy (brilliantly introduced by Guru), Sony could be the Lexus/Infinity to Nintendo's Ford/Toyota.

*Then again, one would have thought Nokia's experience with multi-functional cell phones would have meant the N-Gage would have been better designed. Oh well. Its all speculation until we actually get to see the product.

Just to weigh in on the portible console topic, I don't think the PSP can beat the GBA. It might be possible, but I think there's just too much going against it. Number one, PSP at $300 versus GBA at $50. That's a monstrous price gap. Two, GBA has an enormous install base. Three, GBA has an incomprable game library, which could be matched if PSP has PS1 compatibility, but... Four, I don't think that's going to happen. People have already mentioned Sony's technology as far as portible CD players, but to do that the system itself would have to be at least as big as a Walkman. It would have to be that big just to fit the CD in. So basically, even if it did have PS1 compatibility and better graphics and sound capability, it would still be a bigger, more expensive unit that would be fighting for purchase in a market that's already dominated by one competitor.
