Hey Wieners.

I was thinking about putting up a small private message board for a group of friends that currently communicate all the time through emails.

We have a domain name, but I was wondering if you guys knew what else would be needed to make this happen (i.e. message board software, cost, servers, etc...)

Thanx in advance for the info :-)

After ridiculing this poor chap's spelling, he has now changed it. So the post that was here looked even stupider than it looked in the first place.

What do you see as the appeal in having a message board as opposed to, say, a Yahoo! mailing list?

It's a close group of guys, & we talk about a lot of different things (not unlike your Wienerboard actually, just on a much smaller scale). With an email list as we do now, it gets very difficult to follow a conversation when you pop in mid-topic & find 50+ emails on a variety of topics.
It seems that if we had a central place to go, we could better organize the conversations & it would be easier to jump in mid-conversation & know what the heck was going on.

So... any advice/ideas?

This webpage might help out. If it doesn't, at least I tried to be helpful instead of being useless. Good luck!

Pieman is not useless. He's just old.

I realize it's hard to tell the difference sometimes, though.

If you can live with advertisements, EZ board can be OK for starting something like that up. The problem with phpBB is that you have to have a server to set it up on, or web hosting that provides MySQL and php. In general, I'd try one of the ad supported free choices.

Also, if time is worth more to you than money, it might be worth paying them for the ad free version. With our hits, it was cheaper to buy a server than to pay the monthly fees to EZ board.
