| #1 Posted on 9.1.04 0038.12 Reposted on: 9.1.11 0038.14 | Please God, let Vlad somehow choose the Mets over the Orioles and I will never ask for anything again...or atleast not for a while.
The way I understand it is that the Mets are interested in Vlad. Right now they are only able to offer a three year deal, and the Orioles have a six year deal on the table. But it seems Guerrero is so disappointed in the interest he has gotten that he might take a big one year contract to prove he is healthy and then test free agency again next season. So if he was willing to take a 1 - 3 year contract then the Mets could match whatever Baltimore can offer. Plus going to the Mets would mean he would stay in the National League, he'd be in a city with more of a Dominican fan base than Baltimore, and there's also some Dominicans on the team (although the only one i think of off the top of my head is Jose Reyes).
Man the Mets haven't had any good outfielders in a decade and we could start this season with Cliff Floyd, Mike Cameron, and Vladimir Guerrero in the outfield? Sounds great to me. Then we also have Piazza and four very talented young guys making up the infield. Pitching could still use some work but if Glavine can return to form then we atleast have a good one two punch with Glavine/Leiter. | Promote this thread! | | drjayphd

No, no, and dear God, NO. NYC's WAY too big of a media market for Vlad (although it'd probably be much worse if it were the Yankees). It's not as bad as trying to argue that he should go to the Yankees, but Vlad to the Orioles still makes more sense. | Grimis

All of the sudden, the defending champs are in the mix. Will another team be willing to pony up more money for only one year? You'd THINK they would (I mean, it's fucking Vladimir Guererro), and for whatever reason, I doubt the Marlins will be the last team we hear from.
BUT, the Marlins do have a handful of spanish-speaking players (as well as their general population), they ARE the defending champs, and they're as about as close to the Dominican as you can get in the MLB.
If I'm the Orioles, I need to come up with some cash quick. | geemoney

Then within about 24 hours he said no to the Mets, no to the Orioles, no to the Marlins and Detroit, LA, and Anaheim were the candidates. And he chose Anaheim. Very strange. | mountinman44

I think it's a great move for the Angels. All it took was $14 million per to get Vlad to change his mind about playing in the AL. | Big Bad

Not so strange that Vlad chose Aneheim. He will be reunited with ex-teamate, Bartolo Colon, so at least he'll have one familiar face who speaks Spanish in the clubhouse. | BOSsportsfan34

Oakland still has the pitching to make that division fight interesting though. That being said, I think that it's between Seattle and Anehiem for the AL West title next season, with the edge right now to Anehiem.

Wait a minute, a couple of weeks ago you were all "Vlad's coming to Baltimore, it's a done deal, the sky will open and God will send orange-and-black light down across the plains" etc. Now it's no big deal that he didn't sign?

Well, it's not like they lost out on everyone. They got Tejada and Javy. And it's much easier to find a great OF than it is a great SS or catcher. | Whitebacon
