For the first time in a long time, i have no clue who will be the winner of the RR...usually, its pretty easy to tell as the wrestler that is pushed the most will generally win but there hasnt been a clear-cut push to the moon on either brands...

Shawn Michaels could be the pick from the RAW side but it looks like he'll probably be in one of the main events at the RR.

On Smackdown, Hardcore is the wrestler getting pushed the hardest and he also will be in one of the main events at RR.

Here are some tidbits i have:
1) Goldberg wins to set up Brock-Goldberg at Mania - Would have been likely but it seems Goldberg has talked himself out of working Mania
2) Returning Kurt Angle to set up a Mania rematch with Brock?
3) Cena - has been talking about his main event at Mania for some time
4) Benoit - is his push over or just beginning?
5) The fact that a Smackdown wrestler won last year might mean a RAW wrestler wins this year...Jericho as a babyface? Batista? Maybe even Ric Flair?

Interesting times ahead...

I know its not a popular decision, but I would like to see The Undertaker win one before he retires, but he might not even be there this year so that don't matter.

Second choice, John Cena. Third Matt Hardy (but WWE won't let Hardy, you can tell by his "push".)

On the SmackDown side, they've been teasing Benoit/Lesnar for months. They finally gave it to us, albeit with a bad finish...because they're saving it for when we'll pay to see it. Since Benoit "can't get another title shot", and he's in the Royal Rumble most likely...the only way he'll get a title shot is to win the Rumble, right? I seriously doubt they'd go to all this trouble just to swerve us.

The thing with Benoit is that his push looks like it could be over. He jobbed in Iraq to Eddie, which might mean Eddie could get the push and is feuding with the FBI, which doesnt keep him strong.

Still, the Smackdown spoiler may show that Benoit could be gearing up for the big time...

I dont know. SD in Iraq came off to me as one of those throw-away shows they always put on when one of the shows falls on a holiday, so maybe we shouldnt put so much weight in who won over who there. Plus I'm pretty sure WWE knew Eddie would be more over with the troops than Benoit would because of his fun gimmick and whatnot.

Please...would you refrain from making reference to spoilers in threads that don't include a spoiler alert in the title...some of us like to watch the show completely fresh...thanks.

I think Benoit SHOULD win the Royal Rumble. He's a strange case, it that how over he is tends to depend entirely on how high up the card he is pushed. Unlike a guy like RVD or Booker T., both of whom have remained over to about the same extent despite never getting a serious push, Benoit seems to get incredible reactions when he's challenging Angle or Lesnar for the title, but when he's taking on A-Train no one seems to care. Is that an indication that Benoit's heat is a result of crowd hatred of his opponent rather than his own popularity? Perhaps in part, but then, you can hear a pin drop when Hardcore Holly does a run-in on Brock so I do think a good part of that is thanks to Benoit himself.

They should let him win the RR and get a shot with the title. If it works, great, they've got another legit, believable main eventer, even if it did take three years too long to figure that out. If it doesn't and Benoit flops as champion, well, worst case scenario is you get a **** title match at WM XX. Add to this the fact that there is no obvious choice that needs to win it for storyline purposes, and they really should use it to make someone a star. If not Benoit, John Cena would be a good choice to win it as well.

The perfect winner is Benoit, period. There is no one else that can be as good as a winner. The storyline is perfect: He got screwed out of the title, and now Heymen says he can't have another shot at it. The only way to get a shot? By winning the Rumble obviously. It's perfect.

I'm still not sold on Cena winning the Rumble ... Don't get me wrong, I think Cena is the man and will be a heavyweight champ someday, I think he needs a good run with the US title. He's what they should do with Cena ...

Have him eliminate a few people in the Rumble ... Show costs him the match towards the end and sets up a US title match 'tween Cena & Show at No Way Out in February ... Cena gets the strap and defends it Mania ... or if they wanted to stretch it out, have him win it from Show at WMXX ...

And could we be getting teased with an Eddie/Angle feud? Please God, please ...

One good thing about the brand split is that it makes the Rumble more unpredictable.

Goldberg and Benoit seem like the most likely contenders at this point unless they want to use it to set someone up as Triple H's challenger.

I'm still not convinced they'll go all the way with the Benoit push. After all the close calls, I gotta see that one to believe it.

A RAW wrestler will win. Look at it this way. Smackdown has the No Way Out PPV right before WMania in order to set up a world title WMania feud. RAW has no PPV so they can have there WMania set up by using the Rumble. My prediction.....

Benoit is screwed out of Rumble win by someone, possibly Heyman. Goldberg winds up winning the Rumble. HHH (RAW Champ) says he is sick of Goldberg and will fight him on RAW for the title in some sort of gimmick match (time limit, whatever) If Goldberg cant beat him then no WMania title shot. Goldberg somehow loses (screwed) and leaves RAW. Back on SD Benoit gets a title shot at No Way Out. Lesnar beats him however. Goldberg shows up on SD saying he still wants his title shot but for the SD Title. Goldberg vs. Lesnar at WMania and Lesnar pins him clean. Exit Goldberg from WWE.

I agree with your thoughts on Cena; he wouldn't be my #1 pick to win but I wouldn't mind it either. I think Cena should go on a Rock-like run with the US title, have him win it from Show and carry it for most of the year, say until Survivor Series. With titles changing so frequently now a six month title run, with an emphasis on how long he's held the belt, could do wonders to get the guy over as the real deal. They could also transition him to the world title almost immediately, like they did with Rocky in '98.

As for the talk of Goldberg winning the Royal Rumble, does anyone know Goldberg's current status with the WWE? He wasn't even on RAW this week, and it seems his WWE future is in question right now. Should we expect WWE to work out a deal with Goldberg and have him back by the Royal Rumble or Wrestlemania?

Apparently, the suspension thang being played on RAW is to give Goldie a break to go work a match in Japan against Ogawa.

It appears that backstage, Goldie has been acting like a dick and it may have cost him his main event at Mania.

Nevertheless, i would think something would be worked out because Brock-Goldberg is money but if the websites are telling the truth, he'll be jobbed out.

Can't say i'll miss him, though

If I had to guess with regard to Goldberg, I'd say that if they can work out a contract with him beyond WM he probably wins the RR and is a featured player at Mania. If he doesn't have said deal by the Rumble someone else will win it, and if he doesn't have a deal by WM he'll be a few matches from the top putting someone else over. I think they know Goldberg has value, but I wouldn't expect any kind of push for him from now until he signs a new contract.

He deserves to be jobbed out, he sucks as a wrestler, also, Benoit needs to win, and if its not just benoit, then it needs to be the old Bret-Lex finish with Benoit and Angle. Benoit, Angle and Lesnar, how awsome would that be!

My money (if I had any) would be on Jericho. They're trying to turn him face, and his feud with Triple H would be money; they've got 5 years of history. Benoit would also make a fabulous choice, but so many people have been guaranteed that they'll never get title shots but gotten one anyway. With Cole, Tazz and Heyman always mentioning that Benoit will never get a title shot, he'll get one eventually.

Or, to slip back into IWC mode, it'll be Hardcore Holly.

I think Benoit is the best choice as well, but I've been saying for a while now that the winner of the Rumble should be a Raw wrestler, like T.I.O said. Because a) a Smackdown wrestler won last year B) Smackdown has the Febuary ppv to come up with a WM main event and C) the WM match should really be a two month feud atleast anyway. That being said, I don't understand why you would have Goldberg win it and then go to Smackdown, that's the same as a Smackdown wrestler getting it.

I hope they do go with Benoit but if it's a Smackdown wrestler my money would be on HBK or Jericho over Goldberg now. HBK should get a rematch after Monday's match and he might have a similar story as Benoit, that Triple H won't give him a shot. I'd love to see it come down to Benoit/HBK as the final two with both of them having their only shot at the title on the line.

If not HBK i'd say Jericho. Sure he probably has no chance at beating Triple H at WM but they've atleast shown they are willing to push Jericho to the World Title match, plus you know he's going to be over when he's completely turned face, and he can probably get the best match out of Triple H besides HBK.

THey can still do Lesnar/Goldberg if they feel it will do well but I don't think you need to include the Royal Rumble winner or even the World Title in the feud.

I think Lesnar/Goldberg became a dead issue the moment Triple H won the title at Armageddon.

If I was silly enough to bet money on wrestling, I'd put my money on either Cena or Jericho. Probably Jericho; while Cena deserves to be pushed, main-eventing Wrestlemania is a little too much for him at this point.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and pick the one person who's currently getting a push who hasn't been named yet... Shannon Moore!

Moore was one of the highlights of last year's Rumble, he's been in the spotlight for several weeks now (albeit getting his ass kicked, but I'd rather get my ass kicked in the spotlight than kick someone's ass in a darkmatch) and can anyone think of another credible way for Moore to main event Wrestlemania other than being the soul survivor of a plane wreck that killed all of the other superstars?

So my pick to win the 2004 Royal Rumble is Shannon Moore. If I'm right, I'll mark out like a little girl at a Justin Timberlake concert. If I'm wrong, nobody will remember come Mania anyway.
