Who else here thinks Joe was a bit toasty while checking out Suzy's ass on the Saturday night game (on as I type this)? He told her like 4 times "I want to kiss you." before she cut him off and threw it back to the booth.

Namath is a one trick pony who is by far the most overrated professional athlete in the past 40 years just because he played in New York and the New York media always goes groveling to him every year and asking him how great he thinks he was and whether the Jets will win the Super Bowl this year. I mean, he's famous for guaranteeing victory? For the love of God, does anyone know of an athlete who has guaranteed losing before a game? As for whether he was drunk, probably, but I just thought it was senility catching up to him.

To be somewhat fair, whenever McGuire goes on Boston talk radio, they do an over/under after he gets off the air on how many drinks McGuire had before he came on the air.

The TRUE brilliance of the interview is Namath's incomprehensible rambling about Pennington being what everyone who sees him thinks about him or something. It was like .7 WARRIOR. A classy quality quarterback indeed.

Grr...when I watched the game live, I was listening to Metallica or something on earphones at the same time and completely missed the interview, sound-wise. I did catch it afterwards though...
As for whether or not he was drunk, he could very well have been. At the same time, I remember reading a Sports Illustrated article on him about 5 or 6 years ago where he claimed he's been off the wagon for a while, so who knows? I blame ESPN for the whole set-up though. You got this fairly attractive female reporter interviewing a flamboyant ex-quarterback who's received numerous compliments on his looks for being someone in the 50s from all sorts of women (so said the article), so whether he was toasted or not wouldn't matter. Matter of fact, the whole thing doesn't really surprise me too much.
Of course, this is the same network that hired Rush Limbaugh to be a studio football analyst. Gee, it hasn't been a good year for ESPN for these things, has it?
And yes, I'd like to repeat what others have said, and point out how sad that "Vapor Lock" was mentioned at all...

Wouldn't be the first time this has ever happened...
Supposedly, he was scheduled to be one of the guest speakers at the Dan Marino Night tribute they had in 2000 but after Joe had more than a few pops before it was his turn to go up, the organizers decided that it would be a good idea if Joe wasn't given a live mic at that point in time.
I say supposedly because Namath denied being all that drunk, although most accounts of people at the event say that he was hammered.
