Yet another coaching thread, I know, but I thought it'd be good to have one specific place to put all of the coaching speculation.

The teams that will need new front men are the Giants, Atlanta, Miami, San Diego, Cleveland, Oakland, Seattle (if they miss the playoffs), Arizona, Chicago (if the GM finally gets his way), Buffalo, New Orleans (unless they pull a miracle) and Washington.

Spurrier is safe in Washington. Snyder is paying him too much...unless Snyder decides to try to hire Pepper Rodgers again.

I think that it would be a travesty to fire Dick Jauron ... he has taken a team with very little superstar talent and turned them into a respectable team that could finish at .500 ...

Davis won't be let go in Cleveland. He's had a bad year, but there are no rumblings about firing him.

So being a Cleveland fan, what's the word on Couch/Holcomb and who is staying/leaving next year? ... I'm partial to Holcomb because I'm an MTSU grad and he was the QB when I was there.

I'd like to see Nick Saban take the jump from LSU to New Orleans. I'm not even sure what the coaching situation there is as in how many years are left on the current guys contract, but N.O. hasn't been good for a few years now anyway.

BTW, Mayhem, is that the Family guy makes fun of Pee-wee Herman show in your pic. lol.

I don't think the Chargers are going to let Schottenheimer go, either. He still has two years left on his contract, and Alex Spanos is not going to pay Marty $8 million ot sit on his ass at home. I would expect that Marty will have to fire several assistants during the off-season.
The Chargers' problems go well beyond coaching. There aren't a lot of smart players on this team. The defense just flat out sucks. I swear this is the only defensive unit where all 11 guys bite on play fakes. The offensive line is a seive. Besieged by injuries, yes, but still a seive. Give Brees and Flutie a couple of extra seconds to throw and give Tomlinson some bigger holes to run through, and this team would be much better than 3-11.

Actually, only Brees needs those few seconds because he's about as mobile as a sack of crap. Flutie can actually make plays on his own and (gasp) win games, which of course is why San Diego went right back to benching him. Great showing by the Chargers against Green Bay this past week, btw.

Jerry Angelo had Jauron as a marked man since his first year in Chicago, but then they went 13-3. After the Bears fell apart last year, the feeling was that too many injuries and bad luck played a factor for Jauron deserved another shot. I dunno what Angelo will do this year.

No word on either one yet. Couch has mentioned he'd be willing to restructure his contract (coincidentally, so has Gerard Warren), so he's not the sure bet to go yet. Holcomb has shown enough that he's probably not the answer to the starting QB issue. So chances are Couch will start the rest of the season and they will see how he does. I think he'd be okay with a) a better offensive line and b) better offensive coaching. I hope they don't have to resort to the draft yet for the "QB of the future", but this looks like a decent year in terms of draft position and players available to do so.

To keep this somewhat on thread as well, any rumblings from Pittsburgh at all with their lousy season? Also, would there be any good offensive coordinators available that could be available to come to Cleveland and actually work with the players we have?

How many games did Flutie win this year?

Couch is a damn good QB, don't get me wrong ... there are a handful of NFL teams that would love to have under center every Sunday. I remember his monster numbers while at Kentucky and he didn't have a super supporting cast there. If I were the Browns, I'd keep him over Holcomb ... but like I said, I'm partial to Kelly because of the alma mater.

Did I just contradict myself or what?

Not sure on the financial end of things, but I think that if the 49ers let go of Garcia in either March or June, neither Holcomb or Couch will be back, and Garcia will lead a Patriots/Raiders type passing attack, hopefully with a better emphasis on the run.

That would be a grand total of two. Brees has one win. The Chargers need to find out if Brees can handle it. If they had been smart, Brees would have come back against Detroit, but they aren't. So Brees started againt the Packers and had a pretty decent performance outside of the two fumbles.

And it really doesn't matter who is under center for the Chargers at this point. This team stinks. I never thought I would see a team that was worse than the 1-15 Chargers from 2000. This 2003 team is much worse, possibly the worst Charger team I have ever seen in my 30 years as a Bolt fan.

Jauron is not the problem with that team. He's getting about as much out of that team as anyone is going to get, and that's all you can really ask from a coach. What they do need is a better offensive co-ordinator...the guy they've got now runs an offense with all the creativity of a junior high school team. A playmaker on offense couldn't hurt either.
