If it's not how great Japanese and Mexican wrestling is, it's how great ECW was. Am I the only person who disliked ECW? The personalities were great but the wrestling was the same every single week. There's only so much hardcore I can take...

By the time we hit the "ECW on TNN" era, they didn't have much to offer any more. | MoeGates

And, as far as I know, the only person that posts here and at Highsports, I'd say the Lucha board is the best one around. I love it here, but other than me and Cubsfan, who else watches lucha? Threads would die a quick death and then CRZ would get annoyed that we were cluttering up the boards. | thecubsfan

| #6 Posted on 27.2.02 1805.16 Reposted on: 27.2.09 1805.39 | You have to be clear about what ECW you don't like - there are time periods and matches that a lot like, and there are some that everyone hates. It's a tough thing to generalize.
To me, someone saying "i'm a huge fan of [x, where x may be something I never see]" isn't even an issue, becuase it their opinions, they're free to have it. And even when they say "this x [which you don't see] is better than y", it's fine as long as they have some decent reasoning that makes sense, even if I don't agree - it's still their prefrences. If there's less than valid or truthful reasoning going on, it can be annoying then, but only then.
Anyway, getting to a point somewhere along the lines, what's the problem with them saying some Japanesse stuff or some Mexican stuff or even some ECW - including the stuff that you hate and I hate and the guy over there hates? How does it harm the rest of us?
(I'd post more lucha here but I kinda figure the same no response - though I might be able to hook more people into reading the reports if I get threads going, since they're more aware of what's going on, I've got a discussion thread over on the topic elsewhere that I like and I'm usually out of things to say by the end of the report.) | StampedeFan23

The whole "Lucha good, everything else sucks" is a problem. Personally, I really like puroresu, but I certainly don't watch it all the time or praise to the roof. All wrestling forms and styles have good points and bad points.
Maybe I need someone to explain Lucha to me, cuz I don't really get it. I did like La Parka though.
The only ECW stuff I saw was when it was on TNN. Me being Canadian, we never got it up here. And trash-style hardcore I can only take in small doses. If Raven was as good as he was during his hardcore title run in the WWF while in ECW, then it looks like the place did have some potential...

First, the Highspots Lucha board and Bob Barnett's board are the best places for info/discussion about Lucha - sometimes DVDR too but topics are all over the place there. I don't participate on either board since I don't consider myself knowledgeable enough to jump in. But I go there often just for the info.
StampedeFan, I can dig where you're coming from. When first exposed to Lucha via WCW (and to a lesser-extent WWF), I didn't like it because I thought the action made little sense and the workers were too cooperative. Really, the only advice I can give you is to seek out the better stuff and watch. It's an acquired taste. But once you "get it," I think you'll agree that it's quite a beautiful art-form.
As far as ECW goes, they had their pluses and minuses. I think ECW got a fair shot among the more distinguished fans. The good work was praised, the bad work was trashed. The problem with ECW was that it tended to be REALLY overbooked, thus overshadowing good workers and their good work. And then you have their zealots who tended to really muck up the Net when ECW was strong, flaming anyone who didn't think ECW was the be-all, end-all.
There was A LOT of good work that ECW gave us. Problem is their legacy seems to be the trashy, over-booked stuff that turned people off and beceame their downfall.
Dunno.
