I SWEAR I'm trying to keep shilling to an absolute minimum, but thought some of the old skool metal fans on here would get a kick out of this.

While it probably should be a guilty pleasure, I've always been proud to be a massive fan of the British biker/viking/"death to false metal" band Manowar. Having come across their newest CD yesterday, I got inspired to review it (as well as take a lot of shots at the otherwise horrible music from their heyday... if they ever had one here). Of course, the album cover featured in the "worst of all time" thread a few below this one is discussed as well.

The Barbed Review: Manowar- Warriors of the World (eventually... I swear).

Heavy flaming welcome about the band or the review. (image removed)

I'm not a huge Manowar fan but unlike most people outside of the Manowar brotherhood, I don't have a dislike for them either. They are exactly what you described them as--a guilty pleasure. They epitomize cheesiness, and that's what makes them such a legendary band. Haven't gotten a chance to spin WotW yet, but I will if I come across it cheap.

BTW, nice review..a couple of points though. One is that, yes, Anthology is by far the gayest cover ever made. I remember cringing when I first saw it when it came out, and it officially surpassed Metal Church's "Hanging.." as what I think of when I think of the worst album cover ever. As far as their overtly patriotic support of the war on terrorism, it's likely you're right. But I do remember someone asking DeMaio about the war in Kosovo several years ago, and he said how much he hated war. Then again, that was before 9/11, and that was more perceived as a Clinton/UN led coalition mission, which wasn't exactly the type of war that conservative warmongers found worth anything.

Hey, thanks much dude. Cheese is indeed the order of the day. If they hadn't started out JUST BEFORE the release of Spinal Tap I'd swear that was the inspiration behind them.

One note: While I'm always "colorful", the over-abundance of profanity in that one was an attempt to capture the fifteen-year old mindset from when I started listening. I usually don't rely on it that much just to keep things lively. :)
