Man, I loved tonight's show. I really dig these Year In Review type shows. Its really sad to see how hot Sunny was back then and how she has fallen so far from that now. Also, it reminded me how cool Livewire was when it was a live call-in show. That lasted for like a month before they made it a recap show.

What makes me sad about seeing these recaps, is sitting back and thinking how the progression of those shows got us to where we are today...nearly dismal...

Greener pastures were back then, and nowadays we're running on E in a sense...

what makes me even sadder is looking at all those people who have died since 1996. Damn....

Also, where IS Vince Russo these days?

The biggest thing I noticed is how much Steve Austin's voice and dialect changed over the years. It must have something to do with him moving from Atlanta back to Texas once he started making money in WWF. It's interesting to see him craft the Stone Cold character over time. It really starts to take shape when he stops saying "man" all the time.

I wish they did more of these years-in-review. But I don't think I'd be interested in a 1997 one. Because, let's face it, it would just center around one event in November, if you catch my drift.

It was a great idea and a lot of fun to watch, but a bit of a sequel to their continued revising of history (see the "Bret Hart Destroyed WCW" Confidential) with bits like saying that Bret was "past his prime" in 1996 and trying to portray HHH as being the Magic Johnson to Austin's Larry Bird. They actually threw that comparison out there.

Still, seeing HBK with his full head of hair, Ahmed Johnson long before he left wrestling to conquer Hollywood in the MC Hammer Story on VH-1 and lots of neat clips and reminders from that year was really cool. I'd love to see them do Confidential specials on Bret vs. Austin or the WMIII-VI Hogan run, as well as other Years in Review.

-Mr. 1996: Shawn Michaels- Early 96 the show Shawn winning the Rumble and going on to beat Bret Hart in the Ironman match at Wrestlemanaia. 1996 was the year of the Heartbreak Kid... They said Bret's seen his best days in 1996, don't know about that 1997 I think was Bret's best year, well until November.

-1996 Breakout Star: Stone Cold beginning- But first they show the Blackout in IYH: Beware of Dog, because the dog must have chewed on a wire or something because the power went out... Austin big King of the Ring win which ranks up there with Billy Gunn and Mable (okay maybe a bit more memorable LoL). Where after Austin wins he spews out catchphrases and T-shirt slogans... The show Pillman and Austin home invasion incident, which is really funny for me because my area was just showing Raw live on a local channel for just a few months (TSN always had it on tape delay back then). After that incident they always showed Raw one week delay and never showed it Live again and quickly dropped the program.

-1996 Feud: Mankind/Undertaker- But first look at other 1996 characters like Goldust (I wish I can see him in 2004). Owen The best Slammy Award winner Evar! And Ahmad Johnson, who I must admit I was a huge mark for the guy when he started out. Him and Shamrock at that era I thought were can't miss (opps LoL)... Onto the Feud of the year they showed Mankind and Undertaker battling in all sorts of gimmick matches. Then they have Yokozuna getting forklifted out of the ring. I don't remember this at all.

-1996 Women: Sunny/Sable- These two are night and day for me. Sunny was charming, charismatic, good mix of cute and sexy. As for Sable, never liked Sable much. From her look to her presence... They gave a quick reminder that Terri was in the WWF in '96.

-1996 Rookies: Rock/HHH-Oh My They showed that messed up Pedigree HHH gave. That guy landed on top of his dome!... They talk about the Rock being "can't miss". WWF was actually right, like Eddie G says "Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while". A mention of Kurt's Gold was cool. No mention of Mark Henry choking at the Olympics though.

-1996 MOTY: Michaels vs. Mankind- I remember seeing this match live. Great match with one of the cheapest, laziest endings I've seen... I'd rather they show long stretches of matches instead of the clip job they did on this match. I remember freaking out for Mankinds mandible claw when he was stuck on the ropes

This was a good concept a look back at an entire year. It's much different then the usual Confidential. I know most on the net don't like the normal Confidential with their fluff pieces, but I don't mind fluff pieces at all. I like feeling good about the wrestlers I watch... But this was a different and nice change of pace, and was entertaining.

While watching Saturday night I was struck by the idea of how cool it would be for the WWE to release a series of dvd's chronicling year by year. As extras you could have the best and most interesting matches from each year.
