I was wondering what everyone uses for News/Politics/World Events info on a regular basis, mostly to see if there's good sites or publications I'm missing.

The stuff I reas is generally pretty mainstream, mostly because I think the best alternative to the mainstream American media is the European Media (some of which I also read). The Indy-press or other ideological publications tend to annoy me to no end. If there's going to be editorializing in my news, I want it subtle enough that I don't notice if I'm not looking for it

My list: Most of these are local, NY based stuff. And this is just the stuff I'll read (or at least skim) on a daily/weekly basis, not if I'm hunting around for stories on various stuff.

www.nytimes.com

www.nydailynews.com

www.nynewsday.com

www.nyobserver.com

www.gothamgazette.com

www.thejewishweek.com

www.forward.com

www.rollcall.com (until they started charging)

www.hillnews.com

www.bbc.com

www.elpais.es (this one's in Spanish though)

www.villagevoice.com

www.nypress.com

www.washingtonpost.com

www.nysun.com They charge for this one too - I read the print version.

www.irishecho.com

www.amsterdamnews.com

www.eldiariony.com (also Spanish)

www.brooklynpapers.com There's actually a better local Brooklyn paper called the Courier-Life, but it doesn't have an online edition.

EDIT: Fixed some links and made the introduction almost comprehensable.

I'll usually start at news.google.com and see if something catches my eye. Of course, I always seem to start HERE, so I'll usually search on something brought up here if THAT'S caught my eye.

I still prefer the hard copy - which over here means the San Jose Mercury-News and the San Francisco Examiner.

The San Jose Merky News, the Wall Street Journal and The Economist, all hardcopy. I check Google and AOL if I want video clips, because I don't do TV news, short of apocalyptic events. If I'm over at Mama's, I read her copy of the Chronicle. That's about all I have time for these days.

Fark.com, newsfilter.org (right wing slant and porn... who could ask for more?), portalofevil.com and drudge seem to be a good starting point. I also check the "majors" (cnn, fox, 1wrestling... kidding) but for the most part those are linked outright or have a link to a story that gets me to those.

I also use Google for news, but I use (and I know it's full of spyware, but I like the format and the Reuters links) Iwon.com for my homepage.

I also check foxnews and CNN (both ends of the spectrum)

Then I read some blogs. My favorites

http://www.hughhewitt.com/

http://www.sgtstryker.com

http://www.andrewsullivan.com/

http://www.balloon-juice.com/

http://instapundit.com/

Finally, I read THIS one.

http://www.allahpundit.com/

It kind of wraps up the day

Then I read this crap

http://wienerboard.com

Well, in the morning, I usually check Yahoo's news and CNN.com The only newspaper I read a regular hard copy of is the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - unless the local alt-weeklies count - although I tend to check out the Washington Post and the Gaurdian online.

There's a few blogs I read regularly, too. I like Tom Tomorrow, although he's on hiatus right now. Atrios, Demagogue, TBogg and Kos are are regular reads for me. Bartcop has hit the point where even I think he's lost his everloving mind, but I still make sure to check his Entertainment News once a day.

Well, there are the four locals: www.sunspot.net, www.hometownannapolis.com, www.washtimes.com, and www.washingtonpost.com. Then www.foxnews.com and www.cnn.com.

Then, there are the blogs: www.instapundit.com, www.volokh.com and the Best of the Day over at the Wall Street Jorunal. . From time to time, other stuff will catch my eye. From those three blogs, you can get just about anywhere.
