1. Record of the Year: "Hey Ya!" Outkast. I just love the song.
2. Album of the Year: pass
3. Song of the Year: NOT Avril Lavigne
4. New Artist: Uh, how exactly did Fountains of Wayne get nominated for this? I hope 50 Center and Evanescence share the award so they both get this kiss of death.
5. Pop Vocal: George Harrison
6. Rock Album: "One by One" Foo Fighters
7. Rap Album: Outkast

I don't really care about country, can you tell? OutKast's song & album have rocked the world, so they shall be rewarded as well as Mr. Timberlake for actually becoming a half-decent artist. Weakest category might be Best Song, as Oscar Winner Eminem (doesn't saying that freak you out?) goes up against overplayed Canadian princess Lavigne. Only way she wins is if the Grammy folks don't wanna give Em too much hardware.

And who thinks Warren Zevon's taking Song of the Year? Certainly got the Happy Blowjob Farewell Push for The Wind (not saying it was undeserved, just that I'm not familiar enough with the man's work to know either way).

| #10 Posted on 5.12.03 0248.49 Reposted on: 5.12.10 0253.48 | Holy shit, where did all the old folks go? Ever since they revamped the nomination committee a few years back the nominations have been very different, but it was still heavily adult-appeal music (Norah Jones, O Brother), and you could usually count on one or two veterans in any major category. I never expected a list so youth-heavy, especially for Album and Record of the Year. I'm amazed.
It will be interesting to see if the voters then go for the most adult-friendly thing, or what. Not that there really is one in the Album voting.
As for the Fountains thing, that's also a recent rule change. It used to be extremely strict, so that if you had sung a duet on one obscure single before you weren't eleigible. (Whitney Houston got screwed out of a BNA Grammy for exactly that reason, not that I consider that all that much of a bad thing.) So when they finally fixed it, they went the whole other way and made it a vague "established in the public mind for the first time" rule that basically lets them nominate anyone. Shelby Lynne won this way when she'd been around a while. Oh, well, I like the Fountains and they were one of the few bands I actually saw live this year, so it's nice to see them in there.
"Hey Ya" is peaking at just the right time, so OutKast will probably win for Album and has a very good shot at Record, although "Clocks" has a very good shot because it's the only non-hiphop nominee in the category. "Dance With My Father" fits perfectly with what traditionally wins the Song category, but that form hasn't held up much in recent years so I'm thinking it may go to Eminem. I'd guess they'll give 50 Cent BNA. He got shot nine times!

Remember, they've decided he's Talented and The Voice Of His Generation and Not At All An Overhyped And Overexposed Fraudulent Piece Of Shit. Either that or Eminem. The music industry can never suck his dick enough either.
The White Stripes are nominated for Alternative Album of the Year, along with The Flaming Lips, Sugar Ros, Radiohead and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, so that's why they're not up for Best Rock Album.
EDIT: The big question is - where's Johnny Cash? The Man Comes Around was released in November of 2002 - that's not late enough for one last nomination? If "Hurt" is somehow disqualified for being a cover song, why not nominate the title track or "Give My Love To Rose" or *something*?

I'm just glad that the Flaming Lips are able to get a nod for an EP. This is the all-encompassing power of Wayne Coyne. I can safely say that if the Yeah Yeah Yeah's get that nod over the Lips, Radiohead, Sigur Ros and the White Stripes that Jethro Tull will no longer be the silliest winner in Grammy history. | uberlou

| #15 Posted on 5.12.03 1651.24 Reposted on: 5.12.10 1652.47 | eh. who i'd like to see take these:
1. Record of the Year: "Hey Ya!," OutKast.
2. Album of the Year: "Fallen," Evanescence (though i'd have no problem with Justin or the Stripes taking it)
3. Song of the Year: "Lose Yourself," J. Bass, M. Mathers and L. Resto (Eminem). (only because either I haven't heard the other songs or don't like 'em.)
4. New Artist: Evanescence
5. Pop Vocal Album: "Justified," Justin Timberlake.
6. Rock Album: "Fallen," Evanescence (gawd, Nickelback better not take this)
7. Rap Album: "Phrenology," The Roots. (sorry but I like this much more over the OutKast album)
I'll skip the country category since it's not a genre i'm familiar with.
As for Justin, as long as he's got those Neptunes beats, he can't go wrong. They gel together well.
I'm not ashamed to say that I marked over Ev's 5 or 6 nominations in all. And while yes, Bring Me to Life was one good song, it was a perfectly fine song without Paul McCoy, IMHO (see: BMTL Bliss Mix). They deserve at least one award. Triple platinum, spent about 7 straight months in top ten of the Billboard album charts, and even though this has nothing to do with Grammy voting, they toured their asses off. Incredibly good to their fans as well. FYI, they have NORMAL fans too.
It's a shame Michelle Branch only got one nomination. But that's just the way it is sometimes.
Finally, throw me into the "WTF?" group in the whole Fountains of Wayne/new artist dealie. | bash91

I'd love to think that, but Keep Me in your Heart isn't even the best song on the album. If they'd chosen Tu Eres El Amor, it might have had a chance to knock off Eminem. By the way, the bj push for The Wind is most certainly deserved. It's his best work since Sentimental Hygiene, circa 1987.
Other picks would be: 1. OutKast 2. OutKast 3. "Lose Yourself" 4. Evanescence 5. Justin Timberlake 6. Audioslave 7. OutKast 8. Live and Kickin - Willie Nelson (the best of a bunch of really bad choices. Shania Twain?!!? Faith Hill???

I had to review that album for my school paper, and was kinda dreading it would be one of those cheap-sounding thrown together pastiches that most "unfinished" recordings are. I have no way of knowing how much was Harrison's original work or how much was Dhani Harrison and Jeff Lynne kicking ass at the mixing board, but the end result was fantastic. 'Brainwashed' is actually one of the lesser songs on the album, which should give you an indication of its quality. | Mayhem
