Rumsfeld wins "Foot In Mouth" award (news.bbc.co.uk) from the Plain English Campaign for the most nonsensical comment made by a public figure this year. The comment in question was, of course:

Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns - the ones we don't know we don't know.

He beat the eloquent Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I think that gay marriage is something that should be between a man and a woman.

Yeah, but the whole point of Rumsfeld is to speak nonsensically. If he wanted you to know what he was talking about, he'd tell you.

Incidentally, I'm not certain how a "non-sensical answer" has anything to do with "Foot-in-Mouth"

How about a quick description of what it's supposed to be, since many people (myself included) see nothing but gray static? (I'm familiar with the concept of stereogram images, but my brain's just not wired properly to decipher them.)

That's it. Now you know.

Like most stereograms, probably not worth the effort, but that's just my opinion. ;-)

Thanks. I can see the color ones easily, but for some reason black and white just gives me a headache.

The original had colour, but in an effort to make it a manageable size, I got rid of the colour. It used to be huge.

For once Grimis and I agree. I am not a big Rumsfeld fan but he is no dummy. Arrogant, yes. Stupid, no. He has a great deal of contempt for the media and ascribes a huge anti-administration bias to them.

What's funny is that he and the administration where thrilled with the reporting when the reporters were imbedded during the march to Baghdad. I.e., when the reporters were "in the loop." They then "unimbedded" the reporters and in large measure shut down the info pipeline.

No matter their political bent, most reporters seem to try and be objective. But objective means attempting to tell the whole story. What amazes me is that admin after admin (both parties) try to steer the infomation to an extreme and/or clam up. This always leads down the path they are trying to avoid. When will they ever learn to just be as open and honest as security allows. The damge is always less in the long run (see Nixon, Richard and Clinton, Bill).
