I was watching Space Jam on VH1 and they put up a commercial for the Video Game Awards on Spike TV. During the commercial they said there would be a Raw vs SmackDown grudge match?
Anyone know anything about it?

I'm guessing since it's the Video Game Awards they'll probably try to have X-Box's RAW 2 'face-off' vs. PS2's Smackdown HCTP. Dunno why, but since it's Spike TV, wouldn't be surprised if there was a 'Best Wrestling Game' category.

I saw this as well, and the background was filled with one of the WWE Divas. It is probably just stock footage they used, but I could see WWE supply Torrie Wilson and Trish perhaps to perform some HIJINX!

Man, this awards show is gonna blow chunks ... I mean, seeing as how the damn thing is SUPPOSED to be about VIDEO GAMES, wouldn't it make more sense that (if they wanna leech off the still-lingering popularity of wrestling) they should have wrestlers playing themselves in a video game challenge live during the show, as opposed to a taped match that (truth be told) a large part of their targeted viewing audience will not want to see?

The whole thing is doomed for failure ... They have the friggin Matrix game nominated for an award; how am I supposed to take any of it seriously if "Enter the Matrix" has a shot of winning?!?

How can you take an awards show about video games seriously under any circumstances?

And for all we know, they could be running the matches while people face off on the video games at the same time and see how realistic the video games are. But I suppose it wouldn't be fitting for the IWC if everybody waited until AFTER a show happened to talk about how much it sucked.

I'd like to take this moment to be the first to talk about how crappy Wrestlemania 21 is bound to be. (I'd go with XX but I'm sure someone has already beaten me to it.)

I don't want to see Raw vs. Smackdown matches on a video game show. It's pointless and a waste. If you had them playing video games on it then I guess that will be alright.

Is it really that entertaining to watch other people play video games (particualrly when they're people who are playing it for show more than actually knowing what the heck they're doing.)

I'd rather see a wrestling match and fast foward thru the rest.

I still hold out hope that one day you'll advance far enough into a tourney that we'll ALL see you play video games. (Of course, to my knowledge they don't televise those things, but there's so many cable channels I'm sure ONE of them will do it soon)

There actually was a video-game game show on TBS Saturday mornings. Starcade, was it? Little kids answered trivia and had to beat high scores to win the game. I recall they played Centipede/Millipede a lot.

There's a Canadian show called Video & Arcade Top 10 (I don't think they ever done a top 10 for anything and there's no actual arcades or videos) It's a half hour of kids playing videogames. It's really kinda funny. Because it looks like these kids go into this the game totally cold *maybe* knowing the basic control function and told "Now go play and the one of you four that go the furthest wins the game". And while they play the chubby host is talking about tips and how to play the game. As it's really going to help these kids now LoL... Not to laugh at them because if I go play a video game without reading the instruction I'd be even worse, but it is funny seeing them going the wrong way and going to "chat" with something they thought was a helper but is actually a bomb hehe. Add the extra bonus of a i Iso cam to their faces as their playing so we can enjoy them spazzing and twitching nervously as the play.

Just for an added bonus the winner of the game gets to pick a numbered ball from a garbage can and win a the prize on the wall that goes with the number. Or if he's lucky he can pick out the lucky red ball and pick whatever prize he wants. Unfortunately every prize on the wall looks like it came from the dollar store and the kid always has a look of such disappointed when he sees he gets a pack of UNO playing cards. Winning a video game is pretty cool, have no idea what's the appeal for such a crummy bonus prize... So there's so good ol Canadian television, another bonus they always have 2 or 3 Grade A hotties co-hosting with the chubby happy host.

And talking about the beginning of this thread. There was no Jericho/ Mysterio match filmed on Smackdown or Trish/ Victoria. Seemed like Meltz went a little quick on assuming something and stating it as fact... Seemingly getting this wrong. Not seeing Foley returning for Raw. It's been a bad couple of days for the NetHacks and poor Meltz right in his backyard

Nobody's mentioned G4, the entire channel devoted to video games. Mostly good TV, with some filler crap thrown in (I'm looking at you, Electric Playground...).

Also, don't forget Video Power.. another show from the early 90's hosted by a guy named Johnny Arcade, in which he would give you video game tips, but later on, during the second season, the show switched to a game show format, in which teams had to compete in video game competitions, with the winning team getting to go on a one minute shopping spree through a maze full of video games

The NFL has been doing this gimmick for years. Every year a couple of days before the Super Bowl, a couple of players from each team will face off, playing out the Super Bowl via Madden or some other football game.

The suits behind these "exhibitions" end up offering footage via satellite to local news stations, and chances are good it'll pop up somewhere. Can you say 'free commercial?'

More corporate shilling...feh.

Ratings, all about ratings. Raw vs Smackdown has a tiny amount of appeal to casual fans, as well as the fact that Spike TV knows this thing is gonna bomb, thats why they are using the only ratings draw aside from joe shmo to get people to watch the show. And i havent read that they did either of the matches at smackdown last night...hmmm

I take this one pretty seriously ... In the video game world, the Interactive Achievement Awards would be on par with the Oscars, while the VGA awards would look to be comparable with the MTV Movie Awards.

Well, he got the location wrong, but a match was taped:

--The Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio match was actually taped last night live at the Video Games Awards in Las Vegas, which air Thursday night at 9 p.m. on Spike TV. The WWE segments will be airing after 10 p.m. so as not to compete with Smackdown. The show was at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas with more than 5,000 people there. Al Snow and Jonathan Coachman did the announcing. Jenna Jameson was the ring announcer for both of the matches. The way it was described to me, Jericho and Mysterio put on an okay segment ending with Rey diving on Jericho outside the ring. Trish Stratus and Victoria ran in and immediately pulled off each others' shirts and wrestled in their bras, ending when Stratus pinned Victoria. The crowd liked it. Show itself was said to be overall pretty raunchy with Spade and Funkmaster Flex. (thanks to Tom Blattler)

So, Da Meltz may have made the skate save after all.
