Welcome back, graphic violence parental discretion advisory. Damn. What a season this is turning out to be. I never thought the show was poor in the first 2 eps - I was just a little let down by the lack of those super-tense moments that made 24 famous. But those moments are back.

Super-tense moment of the hour: No question - the Russian Roulette scene.

Chilling moment of the hour: The security guard taking the bullet.

For those who keep track, does the security guard count as a kill for Jack?

I was waiting for the terrorists to come by and see Kyle try to hang himself, just to see their reaction and what they would do.

Chloe truly is a moron. That's all I'm gonna say about that.

So, what happens now? Kyle's been found. All CTU has to do is to let Jack know that, and the chopper comes back. But the previews seem to indicate that ain't the case. What's going on there?

Ok, so Gael has 2 strikes against him now. You got to figure that the next time he's caught doing something fishy that he's done...I get the feeling Michelle is going to put him in charge before that happens though, so she can go be with Tony.

I'm confused as to where they're going with the whole virus thing, but maybe that's a good thing...Maybe the virus storyline is over and Gael will take Kim hostage? I didn't see the first two seasons of 24 so I don't know if they just drop stories like that and move to something new.

I like the fact how Anne thought she could take the heat and now she knows her face will be plastered over all the fake magazines and will be the major story on all the news broadcasts.

I was surprised as hell that the first guard playing russian roullete w/Jack died. I was sitting there like, they'll never let some guy blow his brains out on national t.v. Maybe I don't watch a lot of prime time t.v. but I don't think I've ever seen that before.

Uh, I guess I'll go with this thread.

As soon as Jack got in the helicopter, we saw him pull a cord or something in the cockpit, and when the warden asked Chase what he did, Chase told him that Jack had disconnected the communicator, so I guess he's not going to find out that CTU has Kyle Singer, at least, not for a while.

That Russian Roulette scene (man, two roulette-based shows in one week), was certainly something else! While Jack was telling the guard to just pull the trigger, I had no idea if he was going to get the bullet or not. Any other show, and it would be a definite no, but this one.....

If there's one thing I like on my TV shows, it's graphic surgery footage.

I agree, Chloe is truly horrible, although this was probably her best week.

I think you guys are missing the point of Chloe; it's only a matter of time before she goes completely berserk in the CTU office. That episode ought to be pretty good.

What's with all the Chloe-hatin'??? She's so dour and socially inept that she's AWESOME! She's easily my favorite of the CTU youngblood.

And I can't wait for when the CTU Junior Detectives of Kim, Chloe, and that other guy have to face off and stop that Gael fellow. They'll reveal he was behind it the whole time, and he'll be all, "And I would have gotten away for it, if it wasn't for those stupid kids..."

Goodness those Russian Roulette scenes were SICK~!!! I didn't expect Jack to die (although I knew enough to know it was within the realm of possibility), but when Salazar was at bat, I was thinking about how CTU would go about trying to make Hector think Ramon is alive. I like how if either of the rounds had played out like they were supposed to, Jack would have gotten the bullet.

I still can't believe that the President's girlfriend being accused of perjury is such a major event. I mean, if that's the worst that Palmer's opponent can come up with, I imagine that Palmer is running a pretty strong campaign. (I get the feeling we'll find out in Day 4 that Palmer loses this one.)

I done a bad thing. I taped last week's show. I still haven't watched it.

Unofficial Body Count:

Guard that didn't want to live
Russian Roulette guard
At least 3 prisoners, although I'll have to slo-mo the scene to make it official.
The two guarding Kyle

"At least you'll have a chance" is SO MUCH the line of Day 3 so far it isn't even funny.

And I loved the ending, perfect for (seemingly, who knows with this show) putting the virus substory to bed. Just like the George-Go-Boom with the plane last year.

As for Chloe, I'm expecting hour 20 to end with her missing, and Jack locating an altar to Ba'al in her closet.

I'm starting to think that CTU has some sort of "Careers for the mentally challenged" program going on, what with Kim and Chloe.

I'm glad the show has taken the time to flush out the characters for a couple of episodes, before starting to make things all tense. It's really paying off now.

Here's a wild theory, and please keep in mind that I haven't seen any spoilers/prwviews. Does anyone else here think that Jack is going to turn heel? He was giving Ramon a few odd looks this eposide, and his ranting of how CTU couldn't find Kyle in time just doesn't make sense. Jack should know, better than anyone, the resources available to track Kyle. If Jack's got an alterior motive, that would explain:

1. Why Jack didn't rush into the room the instant Ramon stabbed his lawyer with the pen

2. Ramon's comments about his lawyer talking too much (maybe Jack had a conversation or two with him?)

3. We know that he got Kim into CTU, maybe he also placed Gael?

4. The fact that Jack let Kyle escape from the mall, surely others could have attended to Tony

If they go this route, I'll be one happy viewer!

On an unrelated note, I'm begging once again to anyone who has the first three episodes on tape: Is there any way I can get a copy of them? I've got my boss and co-workers hooked: My boss finished Season 1 and is three episodes into Season 2, and wants to pick up on Season 3. Any help would be appreciated.

I liked how Kim was suspicious about Gael but just as she was about to figure it out, she finds out about Jacks drug use which will atleast delay Gael being discovered.

During the roulette scence, I kept thinking one of them should have just pointed the gun at the lead prisoner and keep pulling the trigger.

Also a little prediction for next weeks episode. I will be shocked if Palmer were to give the OK to shoot down the helicopter. Now that Kyle has been found and the virus contained, Palmer will probably trust Jack in doing the right thing once he finds out what happened.

I'm told that the whole Russian Roulette scene was something of a ripoff from The Deer Hunter. Now, I was, like, 13 when that movie came out, so I was too young for it, and I'm terrible about going back and watching old movies, so I've never seen it, but that's what they're saying. (Gotta ask my brother about that, he's a 24 fan and he's more old-movie-savvy than I.)

What I didn't understand this week is why Chase and the prison authorities decided to let 24 and Ramon go. I mean, wasn't the whole point that 24 was trying to make it look like he had gone rogue and that no one else in the government approved? Besides, 24's "let me go with Ramon, it's the only way to stop the virus" spiel should have been just as effective when he first arrived at the prison.

Also, I'm not exactly sure why the prisoners all thought it was a good idea to play the Russian Roulette game rather than, say, trying to negotiate for no punishment or simply trying to escape. I realize they're getting a certain pleasure from it, but surely someone would have suggested there were better things for them to be doing.

I'm thinking that there's going to be some new follow-up menace, possibly a second option created by Hector Salazar in case the Kyle angle didn't work, to fill the rest of the day. I'm thinking at some point they'll need to get the President more involved too. I like the idea of 24 turning heel for real, but I don't think they'll do it, if only because it makes things hard to set up for future seasons.

I wouldn't call it a rip-off exactly. But according to this The Deer Hunter did make the game more popular.

I totally don't understand the Chloe hate. Chloe is awesome! Everyone gives her crap and she doesn't like her job. That's realistic.

And whoever asked, they can't tell Jack that they found Singer because Jack disabled the comm on the chopper.
