Wow. That was pretty...uhh...kooky. And damn long too.

The dude on the left (the shirtless one) kinda looks like Shane Helms.

Sure!

Translate, not so good.

It's Icelandic (you probably knew that already), the language of the Sugarcubes, gusgus and Sigur Ros.

"g held a eim lki morgunkorn og mjlk" probably means something roughly along the lines of "these lads do really like cereal and milk."

Yes. Yes, they do.

Impressive. Question: How different is that from Norweigan. Is it basically the same or is it like French and Spanish where if you didn't know a word of either language it wouldn't look that different but is?

Norweigan black metal rules (well, not really... but they are fun to read about).

I guess I can field this one, since I took two years of Norwegian at college and remember most of it.

Icelandic and Norwegian are both derived from the old Norse language called Norrne, but whereas the modern Bokml version of Norwegian has developed more from a Danish and Germanic influence, Icelandic is still fairly similar to Norrne - well, similar considering a language is prone to evolve quite a bit in 1000 years time.

The newer (circa 1950 or so) version called NyNorsk takes the modern Norwegian language closer to the old Norrne without completely revamping the language by compiling the west coast dialects. The fun of that is there are many different dialects of Norwegian, and a lot of the same words used in all of Norway have different spellings in various places of the country, thus rendering the NyNorsk thing a little bit moot.

Plus, Icelandic has letters and accents () that don't exist in modern Norwegian, such as the and the . The only additional letters Norwegian has are , , and - none of which appear in that sentence.

That being said, I can kind of understand that sentence. It goes like - I (something something something) like morning cereal and milk. If you want to see the similarities - here goes.

English: I like morning cereal and milk.
Icelandic: g lki morgunkorn og mjlk.
Bokml Norsk: Jeg liker morgenkorn og melk.
(I'd do a NyNorsk translation as well, but the only word I know in NyNorsk in this sentence is "I", which is Eg.)

And that was your excessive language lesson for the day. It may not all be 100% accurate, but it's pretty gosh darn close, lemme tell ya.

BTW, Norwegian black metal is teh R0X0R. \m/
