Delgado runner-up to MVP A-Rod

I haven't seen the complete voting totals, but TEN players got first-place votes (and that's not the record, either). My favorite part of the story reveals the bonuses awarded. A-Rod gets $500k for winning, Shannon Stewart gets $25k for finishing third, and Bret Boone gets $250k for finishing tenth. Shannon should get Boonie's agent's number, stat.

He won it by default, more or less. The best pitcher wasn't a viable MVP candidate. Delgado and Ichiro put themselves out of the running in the last two months of the year and every other name player was either injured or had an off-year or didn't produce from wire to wire.

So they did the only thing they could do and gave it to the biggest name player in the American League, who granted had a great year statistically, but I just don't think the MVP award should go to a player on a last place team, no matter how good his stats are.

Because I'm pretty sure they could have finished in last place without him.

I just find it funny that if the season ended in July, Ichiro would have been my pick, and he gets on a grand total of 2 ballots. But then again, my NL MVP pick was Gary Sheffield, so we'll see how close I am there.

If it was held in July, people would be screaming for drug tests for those who had David Ortiz finishing ahead of Manny and No-Arm. Or just for having David Ortiz finish ahead of anyone.

Also interesting is that Delgado (and Vernon Wells) were left off the ballot by Chicago writer Joe Cowley in favour of Esteban Loaiza and Frank Thomas. The FUCK??? That's just a blatant bias.

Did you hear Carlos Delgado's rant about how he should have won? It sounded like a kid in the fourth grade complaining because A-Rod got picked first for the sandlot team at recess. A disgrace, and it makes me even more happy that he didn't win it.

The way the voting has been conducted this year as a whole has been a sham. Between Matsui losing the ROY because certain writers didn't agree with the rules and guys like Vernon Wells and Miguel Tejada (hey, I'm an A's fan and I know that's a joke) getting first place votes for MVP? It's a crock. There's bias all over the place...but then again, in a league headed by Bud Selig, maybe that's somehow appropriate...

Some scribe from either the St. Pete Times or the Tampa Tribune. That's the only possible explanation.

I asked the question somewhat rhetorically, but upon examination, if your answer is correct there still leaves one other vote for Huff unaccounted for, since two writers from each AL city get a vote.
