I went to the houseshow on Friday in Toronto. The entire top part of the arena wasn't being sold, so the cheapest ticket was actually a pretty good seat. We start off with the playing of the national anthem from a tape that sounded like an old 8-track from the old Maple Leaf Gardens.
-Goldberg/Booker vs. Orton/Batista- Flair comes out and wants a piece of Tie Domi (this feud has been going on since Flair was in WCW LoL). But the Leafs are in Jersey and the Raps are in DC, so no sports celebs. But we do get Goldberg in his civvies. He says he's has a partner for tonight. Out comes Booker. Pretty slow match with spurts of excitement. Goldberg was selling his ankle injury through out the match. Biggest reaction during the match was when Flair got on the apron and got chocked out by Goldberg then attacked by Booker. Ending came with Goldberg Spear/ Jackhammer on Orton. Aftermatch we got a spinaroonie by The Book.
-Kevin Fertig Vs. Dreamer- This guys had Jericho inspiration for his hair, kind of a light brown with red tips. He was okay, much better then his running buddy that was with him (more on him later). Dreamer worked pretty hard but Fertig won because his fellow little red tights buddy hit Dreamer with the kendo stick allowing Fertig to get the pin.
Val/Storm vs. Cade/Jindrak- Big response for Val & especially Storm. TeamGreen got little reaction. Cade-Storm did a mat wrestling respect thing that got a response from the crowd. Val-Jindrak did more power when in there. Cade faked an injury for about 4-minutes, Lance held the ropes open for him but got kicked in the face. TeamGreen showed some personality by jumping around, high5ing and doing jumping jacks. TeamGreen had control for a little while but faces rebounded. Storm looked fantastic, doing a springboard clothesline across the ring (beauty). Val gets the pin by hitting the splash... Val/Storm then a Hogan-like milking of the crowd in pointing to the direction for a pop to see who gets the towel. Lance looked like he was having lots of fun being a babyface, he was tagging everyoneís hands. Even climbing up rails to tag fans that would be out of reach. Surprise good MOTN
-Dupree vs. Hurricane- Both men got their desired reaction. Hurricane always gets love here, Dupree got heat as well. Not as high on athletics as I would like, but they played their characters. Dupree does his France Prance and Hurricane did it as well. Hurricane hit some highspots, Hurricane went for the shinning wizard but Dupree ducked and rolled Hurricane up with holding the tights and using the ropes.
-Maven vs. Travis Tomko- A big build guy with shaved head and body ink. Fertig was okay but Tomko was just awful. Placed the headlock and slow offense by both guys. Maven didn't look so great in there was well. Biggest response of the match was when Dreamer came back for some revenge and hit Tomko with a kendo stick to allow Maven the win.
-Trish/Lita vs. Molly/Gail- Stacy surprise and came out to be special ring announcer. Victoria is named special ref, which made me very happy. Gail came out to a minor heel reaction. Molly came out to a legit heel heat. Lita is popular and Trish got a great ovation wearing her Canadian MapleLeaf jacket. Trish & Gail started off and did some mat wrestling exchange. Trish tags in Lita and Molly accepts a Gail tag. Lita looked good in there, but they made sure she was in Molly most of the match. Molly wore Lita down but the crowd stayed with it. I really noticed how much Trish works on the outside trying to hype the crowd up, by clapping, waving, screaming encouragement, she's wasting as much energy on the apron as the workers in the ring. Also notice for her to take a tag she has to step on the bottom rope and stretch her other leg out and lean over. Cute. Trish finally gets tagged in and the match picked up...
Victoria played the unbiased ref, even getting in Molly's face & getting in a shoving match with her(and fans got behind Vic). But when Trish/Lita went for the Poetry in Motion but before Lita can jump off Trish's back Vic clothesline her hard, it was ON. Molly-Gail doubleteam on Trish & Molly-Go-Round connected on Trish, I totally bit on the pinfall but Stacy pulled Vic out. Vic chased Stacy into the ring but got met by Lita/Trish who doubleteam move on Vic. Then Lita hits the DDT on Gail while Trish gives some S-Faction on Molly for the pinfall. All 3 babyface girls celebrated in the ring by raising eachother hands. The girls went their way to the back, but Trish decided to go back to the ring to get her Jacket & stick around gesturing to the crowd, she looked like she was having a great time. She finally put her Canadian Jacket over Molly smiled & shrugged her shoulders. Real good stuff
-Dudleyz/RVD v. VitaminC/Henry-Y2J Rules! But first, Teddy came in with Henry (with some of my new fav music) saying how he has to team up with Whitey tonight. Out comes some Canadian white boys, first Christian who got a nice pop. Then Y2J who got a big ovation. Just watching Jericho's mannerisms are fun. Gave a hug to Christian, Went to Teddy with arms open & Teddy accepted quickly. Y2J went to Henry with hand extended, Henry looking angry decided it was ok to shake Y2J hand then Y2J quickly hugs him too. Y2J goes to Fink & starts shadow boxing, Fink cowards in the corner. Out comes RVD & Dudleyz to a favorable reception(5/6 guys got babyface pops LoL). They asked what type of match the fans want. Everyone chooses tables. Y2J makes sure the match will have it's heels by saying "If you're dumb enough to think I'll go through a table your dumb enough to think the Leafs will win Stanley Cup this century...
Y2J was the highlight of the night as he was standing on the apron as Christian was getting worn down. Y2J shouted encouragement & slapped the rope. Before you know it, Y2J was on the apron in full ULTIMATE WARRIOR style shaking the ropes!. Match was skill & fun, all guys worked well even Henry was booked great being a contrast of the Canadian boys fast paced style with his power style. It felt they wanted to do a good showing. End came with Y2J being alone in the ring with the Dudleyz & eating some wood.(Does this mean the Leafs will win the Cup, yeah I doubt it too). D-von afterwards looked emotional by pointing skywards. They took a kid into the ring & let his family take pix of them, high5ed him & let him keep a piece of a table. Another funny moment was Bubba slapping hands outside, this hot girl had her hand half assed out there, Bubba psyched her with a handslap, she looked pissed, he was laughing...
-Shane vs. Kane- Brutal way to end the show. After a 15-minute break to set up the cage, they came out and did a half assed effort. Shane tired to run up the ropes and fell off in the first move of them match. Slow and boring. Not to be all negative but one spot I thought was very clever as Shane climbed up and down side with the door Kane opened the door and pulled Shane back in from the opening, Clever, havenít' seen that before. Shane hit a DDT on a chair on Kane Then climbed up the cage again, Kane catches him but Shane wiggles out of his own jersey and comes down for the win. Quickly runs away to the back as Kane chases him angrily. And that was it, short main and no real afterparty. Not a good match and made it worse with a 15-minute wait for it.
-Line of the Night: Jericho "If your dumb enough to think I'm going to go through a table, your dumb enough to think the Leafs will win the Stanley Cup this century"
-Sign of the Night: "I paid to see Randy's nipple" - from a girl LoL
-3Stars of the Night: 1)Jericho. 2)Storm. 3)Trish - but majority of the people in those three matches were really good.
The show was okay, the main event should have been the 6-man tag heck even the women tag had more main event feel to it. Especially the fun Trish celebration afterwards. 6-man match was fantastic all guys worked great. Women tag was great and the interaction of Stacy and Victoria really added something. Even though Storm is the only one I like of this 4some, the Storm/Val-Jindrak/Cade was good, That Team Green isnít so bad if you actually have a reason to have an emotion towards them... Dupree/Hurricane and the Dreamer/Fertig was average. The opener was slightly below average with Flair interference being fun, the main event was disappointing. The Maven/Tomko was just bad. Having to sit through 2 never seen guys matches on a houseshow is a bit much to ask from the crowd. All the Canadian guys and gals seemed ultra hyped for the card and it showed.

Yeah, you know, I've noticed that Flair takes a ton of shots at Tie Domi as well. You mention it goes back to WCW...does anyone remember where this came from? Was Domi in the crowd at the March '99 Nitro? Or is it just another one of Flair's hockey analogies (I remember him on a Philly Nitro saying he was gonna be Lindros and his opponent would be Jagr)?

I've heard Mark Madden mention several times on his radio show about how Flair is a huge hockey fan and that he follows it very closely.

Travis Tomko? Could he be related to Sgt. Al Tomko? He was a star out here in BC and Alberta during the 70s.
