Unbreakable was far from one of the worse movies ever...it is actually one of my all time faves...
Manos the hands a fate, from just to kelley, gigli, glitter, my boss's daughter come to mind as being pure trash.

I believe it's "if a sperm gets wasted, God gets quite irate."

Although the best song from "The Meaning of Life" goes thusly:

Isn't it awfully nice to have a penis
Isn't it frightfully good to have a dong
It's swell to have a stiffy, it's divine to own a dick
From the tiniest little tatter to the world's biggest prick

So three cheers for your willy or John Thomas
Hoo-ray for your one-eyed trouser snake
Your piece of pork, your wife's best friend, your pulsey or your cock
You can wrap it up in ribbons, you can stick it in your sock
But don't take it out in public, or they'll throw you in the docks
And you won't...come...back
(Thank you very much.)

Also, the WORST movie I can remember seeing lately is "Soldier" starring Kurt Russell. Bad, bad, bad.

That's just great. I really dug Titanic's story and Billy Zane's acting. I also loved AI and The Blair Witch Project (for me, BWP was great because it felt REAL). I'll only agree that Vanilla Sky is one of the worst movies ever.

Other nominees for worst movie include Manos, Mars Attacks, and the new classic Freddy Got Fingered!

I don't know how many of you have heard of this, but I do believe that Ed Wood's "Plan Nine From Outer Space" takes the cake easily in the worst movie ever department.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the following:

  • Newsies (Christian "American Psycho" Bale prancing and skipping like a faerie? Get The F Out!)
  • American Ninja III
  • Weekend at Bernie's II (Half of the group of 20 I was with walked out of this movie)
  • Final Voyage (Bad Juggernaut rip-off with screw-ups galore)
  • Spy Kids 3-D Game Over (Let's make a sequel and base it around the least likable protagonist of the series!)
  • Any sequels of the following: Best of the Best, Bloodsport, Operation Delta Force
  • Any movie directed by Albert Pyun.

I could go on, but wienerboard.com has only so much bandwidth.

Aw, when you're really asking about the worst film ever made, you have to exclude anything where there's any possibility that the makers might have thought they were being campy or funny or silly. There is no way that anybody, including Ed Wood, thought that Plan 9 was actually "good". I assert that anything that's a sequel is right out (We're doing Python here, no?) by definition -- sequels aren't intended to be good, they're intended to make $$$. Similarly, anything with "Blood" or "Force" (or both) in the name is shooting for the action genre $$$, not for great movie status.

Various of these alternative suggestions, while certainly candidates for Leonard Pinth-Garnel "Bad Film" accolades, aren't either big enough or hyped enough, nor did they engender high enough expectations to worry about. A bad movie that you knew was going to be bad simply lived up to its expectations.

I'm thinking a better rephrasing of the question was "What's the biggest differential, between 'them' saying it was great, vs. you thinking it was bad?" Add in the caveat of "among movies you've actually seen" -- I think we're getting closer.

--------
(Torchslasher: Did you happen to catch "The Last Broadcast" on IFC's "Indie Screams"? At one point I almost bailed on it, but was glad I didn't.)

Hey emma, I should have clarified earlier...while I still think that Plan Nine is the worst movie ever, I certainly realize that it was never thought of as a serious movie, never thought of as a good movie...it certainly falls into the "so bad it's good" category.

If the reaction of one of my friends to the trailer is any indication, we can probably stick Timeline on the list. He was cracking up at the whole thing. Mind you, it isn't supposed to be a comedy. But there's probably MUCH worse offenders out there.

I like Starship Troopers, and I think Mars Attacks is hilarious.

The thing with Gigli was that it was supposed to be great. It was supposed to be one of the best films of the year, if not ever. When that movie was in production, the producers thought it was sheer cinematic greatness at its highest level. And it stank to high heaven. Freddie Got Fingered or Elf or any other stupid movie might be worse than Gigli to most, but they're not supposed to be good. They're supposed to be stupid. That's why I hate seeing film critics go nuts over every piece of drivel Tom Green puts out, saying that it's stupid. It's supposed to be.

For me there's been one movie, that will probably never leave my #1 spot as worst film ever, Pretty Woman. I hate everything about it, from the acting, the concept, the message. It's just one messed up movie

WWE has some messed up opinions on women, for example, all SD divas being in the ring wishing for the honor to do Playboy as Stephanie announces who gets the honor to pose nude and as Torrie hears her name jumps for joy. LoL... But that WWE SD seemed like real empowering women characters compared to Pretty Woman.

Okay, you guys are still missing:

Mortal Kombat II - The most notable thing about this movie is that I sat behind Mike Tyson in the theater to watch it. I think his group and my group of friends were the only people in the theater.

and the winner:
Hudson Hawk, starring Bruce Willis and Andie MacDowell, featuring Danny Aiello, David Caruso, and Sandra Bernhard (My spine shatters when I hear her voice).

I understand why they walked out of theatre, but what I don't understand is why they walked in. The first Weekend at Bernie's deserves to be mentioned on this list. Why the hell would anyone want to see the second?

Really? Because while the whole 14th-century deal isn't my normal "thing" (I'm much more of a Grisham/Baldacci/Turow-thriller type of guy) I thought the book RULED and I read it in its enitrety on a cross-country flight and I thought it was only natural that it would be made into a movie while I was reading it.

(Of course, in retrospect I don't remember thinking it'd be a great movie starring *Paul Walker*, but he's generally in movies that are OK at least (except Joyride which deserves a spot on the worst list). Did Steve Zahn really need money or something?)

I do believe that Inchon, Waterworld, and Cutthroat Island were all rather notorious bombs. Though more recently, movies like "The Stupids" and "D3: Mighty Ducks" come to mind.

That is incorrect sir! =P

Seriously, Hudson Hawk would be more likely to fit on my best films ever list. Not high on the list, but top 20 definetly.

Everyone here is wrong. The worst 2 movies of all time are in fact a Matthew Mcconanananananananheyheyhey double feature, those being "Frailty" and "Reign of Fire". These movies came close to making me Amish and renouncing all modern technology.
