"Titanic may be the biggest box-office hit of all time, but in Britain it may also be the most despised film of all time. The 1997 film was voted worst film ever by viewers of the BBC show Film 2003 with Jonathan Ross. In second place was Steven Spielberg's sci-fi drama A.I. Rounding out the top five were: Pearl Harbor, Vanilla Sky, and The Blair Witch Project."

Courtesy: IMDb

Ugh. Titanic isn't exactly a masterpiece, but come ON. Exactly one of those films listed actively sucks. It pisses me off to see polls like this proclaimed as fact when they're most likely voted for by the same folk who thought Bad Boys II was a fantastic popcorn movie.

That makes no sense. It's the highest-grossing movie ever, and won a ton of Academy Awards.

For worst movie, what about Megaforce, Unbreakable, or Somehwere in Time?

Maybe they were going for "Most overrated" ... at least that way the list makes a little more sense.

No movie that displays both Kate Winslet's breasts AND Leonardo DiCaprio freezing to death in the North Atlantic can be considered the worst movie of all time.

The only one I've seen of the other four is Blair Witch, and I won't argue its placement. As a student-film class project, it'd be okay, but a full theatrical release? Bollocks.

The worst movie I have sat through was, is, and probably always will be "Superstar." Everyone involved in the making of that movie deserves a nice, prolonged case of rickets.

The worst movie I have ever paid to see in the theaters was "Bad Medicine," starring Steve Guttenberg. My little sister was with my mother in the other side of the theater watching "Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer," and I should've gone with them. I was the only one there; not even the usher would watch it with me. Deeeeeeep hurting.

"Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer"

Oh man Rainbow kicks so much ass.

"Maybe they were going for "Most overrated" ... at least that way the list makes a little more sense."

Overrated by whom, exactly? Titanic works in that context what with being the highest grosser of all-time, but Pearl Harbor, AI and Vanilla Sky were all both critical and financial disappointments in terms of what was expected.

Worst film I've seen theatrically? Gigli.

I need to see Gigli just for the sake of seeing it but I don't think I'll be able to go into the video store and rent it when it comes out.

Let's not be too harsh on Megaforce. Or Force Five. Or Deltaforce. Any movie title with the word "Force" in it is a classic.

None of these movies should be on that list. Pearl Harbor was pretty bad, but it was worth it just for that scene where FDR stands up to show off the might of the American people!

Blair Witch was pretty bad, but I think Blair Witch 2 beat it out in terms of the "worst movie ever" category.

This must be "most overrated", because I would think the Brits would be a bit more high-brow than to go after big movies like this. Then again, they don't get everything we get overseas. It's like a whole other universe over there.

Actually, I think it was more a case of going out on the streets and asking the rubes what they thought. Being one of those wacky backwards Brits I was able to catch some of Film 2003 on Tuesday night and that seemed to be the gist of it. And the spec was quite categorically "Worst Film Of All-Time". Jonathan Ross kicked it off to celebrate his absolute loathing of Gigli when it was released a month ago.

"I need to see Gigli just for the sake of seeing it but I don't think I'll be able to go into the video store and rent it when it comes out."

You haven't experienced bad movies 'til you see this. Seriously, just suck it up, put on the Groucho Marx glasses and risk the embarrassment. Get some porn at the same time to hide your true intentions.

"Did these people never see "Scary Movie 2"?"

Funnily enough, we don't put every bottom rung piece of crap that floats down the pike at number one at the box office over here. The Scary Movie films did okay in terms of cash in England, but were seen by a Hella lot less people than the ones above. Ditto movies like Kangaroo Jack and Darkness Falls. They tear up the charts in America, but over here they rarely break the top three.

Obviously "Walk Like A Man" starring Howie Mandel was so bad that the people on the street had blocked it from their collective minds.....it actually hurt to type the movie's name

Come on, now. Titanic had a few things that pleased the audience, tho all I can think of are Kate Winslet getting naked and Leo Dicaprio dying, but I guess people go to movies for different reasons.

Of course, even people who've never even SEEN a movie know that the twin titans of bad movies will always be "Batman and Robin" and "Manos: The Hands of Fate." (with honorable mention for "No Holds Barred")

I'm not saying "Titanic" isn't bad (it is) I'm just saying "Manos" has a special kind of badness. A movie can only qualify for "worst ever" if you can feel your soul dying while you watch it.

I liked Titanic enough to see it in theatres ten times.

I'd almost believe their favorite movies would be "Godzilla" (the big-budget one) and "Independence Day", which are my #1 and #2 most hated movies, respectively, but they included "Pearl Harbor", which I think sucks on the same levels, so who knows what they're thinking. Of course, "Pearl Harbor" was trying to BE "Titanic".

Then again, I actually liked "Blair Witch 2".

As far as bad movies go, Grease 2 comes to mind. A musical number about reproduction? What the shit?

It's not that odd a concept. Remember Monty Python? "Every sperm is sacred, every sperm is great, if you waste a sperrrrrrrr-erm, God will get irate."

Worst movies ever...Batman and Robin (as suggested by Enojado Viento earlier), Nicholas and Alexandra, View From the Top, National Security, Eyes Wide Shut, Playing God, Weekend, Catch-22, Starship Troopers

Of the so-called 'Top Five,' I liked Titanic, A.I. was good until the idiotic ending, Vanilla Sky and Blair Witch were okay but flawed, and Pearl Harbour....well, I can't accurately judge if since I fell asleep halfway through. The first half was not, how you say, good.

That's the worst-everything else is fighting for number 2, in my book.

I won't agree that Titanic was the worst EVER (although I did, and still do, think it was a gigantic pile of overwrought garbage whose only saving grace was Drowning Leo) but it may be one of those films that, over the years, just gets more contempt piled on it. A huge amount of the money that made it the biggest of all time came from teenage girls, who, as they grow up, may well be coming to see it as schlock of the highest order... sort of like people outgrow their, say, Saddle Club/Babysitter's Club books or their addiction to buying Tiger Beat and look back on it with a little bit of embarassment.

People buy/see bad things all the time, solely based on the "other people are doing/watching it" factor. It kept "Bridges of Madison County" around long after it should've died, it's given god knows how many crappy pop artists plenty of drug money, and it's made a lot of horrible actors very wealthy men... but success doesn't equal quality. It takes next to nothing to, say, make a better hamburger than McDonald's, yet they sell theirs by the millions and billions.
