Well, I hope there's substantial improvements before this thing hits the street or it's N-Gage all over again. Looks awfully damn fragile.
Here's a pic

Amd here's the full presentation And here's a link to the full presentation document

Now that we've some idea what it looks like, what does everyone think?

I don't like the d-pad...I'd prefer the original PSone directionals, personally.

Considering what they're putting into that thing, how can they fit it? It seems so small!

agreed about the d-pad. and i think the buttons shouldn't be so flat. i like to be able to feel myself pushing down. unless psp has a gigantic graphics upgrade from that of gba, i still think nintendo has this category locked.

i noticed the pic of the hardware called "PSX" in the second link. any info about this? or is this just an idea sony is tinkering with?

From what I've heard, the PSX is supposed to be a souped-up PS2, combining a bunch of Sony electronics into one large, ugly package.

Check this out for further pictures of the new system. (tinnud.co.uk)

Looks to be almost the size of an X-Box, or maybe bigger. If I want one, I may have to move into a bigger apartment :-)

I had always thought the PSP was supposed to have at least an L and R key on it. Wonder if they're saying no to that one.

I think the PSX is a Ps2 + HD combo. Sort of a high-end all-in-one model. Big ugly silver box, from the looks of the mockup.

Tho I understand they're also planning an economy PS2 for the other end of the demographic . . .

I'd been under the impression that the new PSX was a PS2, HD, TiVO system, MP3 player, etc. etc. All it needs is an additional thing to make coffee and take the dog for a walk, and I'll never leave my couch :-)

How can they make an economy PS2, though? Take out the USB ports? I had heard they're lowering the price to $139.99 canadian, though.

Supposedly, Sony's been refining the chip design in the PS2 to make it smaller, and also easier and cheaper to produce. And those savings are what will most likely be passed on to the consumer.

Well, looking at what they did between the older PlayStations and the PSone's...that's entirely possible. I hope they don't get rid of something that could be used in the future (i.e. the parallel port in the back where a Gameshark can be attached) like they did on the PSone.

I'm going to watch this one with avid anticipation. If it gets low enough, I may be inspired to pick one up.

Don't hold your breath. Supposedly, Sony may not debut the PSTwo until after the PS3 is out (much like the PSOne came out around the time of the PS2.)
