Man, I feel taken.

I pre-ordered this so I could get the '80s Star Wars Arcade game. I didn't realize that for $55 this was the only part of the package I was going to like.

Anyone played this?

If no one here can tell me it gets better after the first few missions, I'm trading it in this weekend.

How are the graphics, Guru? I've been thinking of getting that one myself, but my financial situation means I'll have a little time to think about it beforehand. I was thoroughly unimpressed with the first one of these they did for the 'Cube.

Is it really that bad? I've played the demo in the stores and it seem like a awesome game and I was thinking of getting it. The series has always been good.

I've played it. I like it.

It's just so damn HARD ... I've only gotten as far as the third (?) level where you have to protect the force field surrounding the city, but I just can't figure out how to successfully "lasso" the bombs on the ground and run them into enemy vehicles without blowing up my own damn ship in the process!

The graphics are absolutely outstanding, but the non-flying missions feel a little awkward control-wise (although not as bad as IGN.Com's review would have you believe) ... Overall, I am quite happy with my purchase, and yet I feel it's a bad omen that I'm stuck on such an early level (it took me friggin' WEEKS before I was able to figure out how to blow up the damn "balloon ships" in the Cloud City level of Rogue Squadron II, and the level after that was so hard that I've since given up ever getting to the end of THAT game).

EDIT: Besides, the disco sequence at the beginning of the game (with bikini-clad Leia and non-SWG dancing Chewbacca) is worth the price alone

Man, I agree about the shield/Defense of RaalTiir mission. I know how to wrap the guys up, but it's almost impossible to do. I think that you can also pick up the bombs that are around the shield and use them on the Walkers, but I've only done that once.

The game is very hard, and that unfortunately kills the game for me and makes me happy I only rented the game. I love the graphics, but there just needs to be different levels of difficulty for these impossible stages. The presentation of the game is also top-notch, so there is really only one flaw with the game (unless like Guru you were expecting a different game).

Last night I finally defeated the Defense of RaalTiir mission. The secret is double tapping the B button after you just pass the bomb. That seemed to pick one up every time for me. Then it is just a matter of flying with a steady hand right over the Walker's so that the bomb grazes the top.

I am actually really starting to enjoy the game.

I just do not know about this game... the whole "on foot" parts is really keeping me from buying it.

I remember when Shadows of the Empire came out from N64, I would rent that and play the first level over and over until I got sick of it. Once it got to the "on-foot" stuff, I just got bored. Then the first Rogue Squadron came out, and I loved it. Don't get me wrong, on foot games have their place, but sometimes I just wanted a good shoot-em-up, dogfight, space battle game. Something I could pick up, play a mission or two, blow stuff up, and come back later to it. I still play Rogue Leader off and on today. The big draw of the last two games was the fact that it was ALL ship fighting, with great gameplay at that.

Now this new one- I hear there is a lot of on foot-stuff, and that just kind of ruins it for me. Now it is just like every other Star Wars game, and I am finding that that one aspect kind of killed any interest I had in this new game. What is wrong with simply wanting to get in an X-wing and blow up tie fighters???

Am I way off base here?

Again, I don't think the on-foot stuff is all THAT badly done, but if you prefer the flying missions, there is the fact that the entire Rogue Squadron II game is available in multi-player ... That's pretty fun.

Getting to play levels in command of an AT-ST, a taun-taun and a speeder bike (on endor!) make this game fun for me.

Foot levels are hit and miss, but the targeting system is pretty easy and for the most part these levels are a nice change of pace at times from the flight missions and are kept pretty short.
