*Great reveal; I mean, that's the great thing about Matt: his reaction.

*I thought Frank came off smarmier in the interview than on the show. Dunno -- his laugh was so FAKE.

*The cast package was well done; some of which we've seen before, but I think it was one of those things that was heartfelt.

You have to hand it to the producers -- they pulled off a mini Truman Show pretty darn well. And it's from Stone-Stanley, no less. :P

Seriously, that was about ten minutes of new footage in an hour-long show. Jesus.

Even still, it was good to see Matt's reaction, and it was honestly pretty cool to see how much everyone thought he was a great guy.

i've been watching since episode 1, and in all honesty, i thought the final epsiode was just all right. i don't mind the whole happy ending, and i believe that matt *does* deserve all the prizes. but the way they were building it up, week in and week out, i thought that the end reveal was going to be a huge disastrous moment for him. i'm sure to matt it was hell enough to find out it was all fake, but as far the hype goes, it was kind of a let down. this is what i thought would have been a good way, although maybe a little over the top, way to do it..

the final vote goes to the hutch (as shown) and midway through his celebration kipp lets loose a scream and pulls out a handgun and aims to shoot hutch. everyone scatters, but when he fires, however, hutch dodges and a bath of bullets hits brian (blanks in the gun for kipp, and one of those vests with trigger-able fake blood packets for brian). OR kipp aims the gun at matt and starts firing, only to have matt discover that he's not getting hit by anything. then admist all the chaos they reveal to matt that everything's fake.

sure it's a bit more morbid, and cruel, but just *imagine* the facial expressions from matt. sure having brian get hit would probably cause him to have another break down (or psychotic rampage), but i think it would have been a lot more interesting too. and that would have been a hell of a finale to get an even bigger buzz going. now that i think about it, i wonder if matt would have acted like he was getting shot if kipp fired a gun (full of blanks) at him.

nonetheless, this series rocked. i don't know if or how they'd be able to pull it off, but i hope there's a season two.

I think that scenario would probably result in Matt rushing Kipp and beating him senseless, like when Homer attacked the Krustyburglar. "Stop, stop! He's already dead!"

Despite the "don't miss the first 15 minutes" ad that ended up referring to about 3/4 of the way through the recap, when they did the reveal, I wasn't moving an inch. Matt's reaction to Brian was fantastic. Seeing that they planted Brian in the tryouts so they had a little more history to build on was great.

Despite what he said about Dr. Pat being the one of the four that he'd take to the altar, he clearly would have loved to have taken Molly upstairs if he could. I wonder what she thought about that after her comments about falling into his eyes... :-)

I think the post-show interview should have been filmed within the past two weeks to hear from him how his life is different based on reactions he gets from people he meets who saw him on TV.

Now what I'm wondering about is Ralph's little sign-off speech about not trusting anything you're seeing, because it could be the Joe Schmo show. Sounds to me like they're going for a season 2, but it's not necessarily going to be a fake reality show but maybe some sort of Candid Camera type ambush show. That would suck, since we wouldn't have time to become attached to Joe. Well, we'll see if it they can or will even attempt to try it again.

Great show that I'm glad I didn't write-off as being too stupid of an idea to watch.

...I can't believe I actually got into a reality show...

I thought the last episode was pretty good. The teaser edits for Matt's "after-the-fact" interview were expertly done to make one think that Matt was really going to go off on at least someone; but he seemed to take it all okay. They could not have picked a nicer guy, that's for sure.

He said Dr. Pat for a couple of reasons, I think: she was the one who turned out to be "easy", she was the least intimidating of the girls by far, and saying her name wouldn't ruin his chances with the other three. Matt's more savvy than he looked.

Mind you, I thought he'd say Ashleigh

I was impressed that Matt didn't really change much afterwards. He still said some really nice things, he still wasn't afraid to say that bullshit was bullshit, and he didn't try to play it all off legit.

A bit more morbid? "just imagine the facial expressions"? Are you quite serious? I don't know about you, but if I'm already in a high-stress situation (the reveal on a reality show) and someone starts waving a gun I'm pretty sure I shit myself in short order and end up a quivering fetal mass on the floor. "Acted like he was getting shot?" For all he'd know, he was.

But I suppose it's all about YOUR entertainment, huh?

Actually, as the "network executive" pointed out, its all about the ratings. If they think that a crazy scenario involving a gun and faked deaths will draw, then I'm sure they'll do it eventually. I think though, to do something THAT outrageous with the show in its infancy (and with Matt being such a nice guy) would have backfired on them. One of the main reasons that the show worked is that Matt was put into plausible situations within the realm of reality tv. Having Kipp pull a gun would certainly test the plausibility of it all. Of course, since it would all play out in seconds, its not like Matt would have any time to think about what's happening around him and rationalize that its all fake.

I wonder now how this will change reality tv. People going on Survivor will know what's going on, but any new reality shows that might come out (are there any new one's coming out), might now have people thinking its all fake in addition to whatever else people would think in those situations.

It could be interesting to do a Joe Schmoe II where everyone thinks they are Joe Schmoe, but really, there are no actors and its all a *legitimate* reality show.

Regarding the finale, I enjoyed it. It wound down rather quickly after the climax, and the interview seemed a bit slow, but watching Matt find out everyone (especially Brian and Kipp) were actors was intriguing, and watching him get all the prizes after all he had been through was good too. They need to do a follow up showing him relating to the cast now that he knows the truth. As much as he and Brian built a friendship, even Matt admitting that he's harboring some resentment (and rightly so.) I agree that it was a nice touch to plant Brian in the interview sessions.

I can't help but wonder if Matt has kept in touch with any of the other cast members.

I liked the conclusion too, with Ralph using the "you're dead to us" line on the audience.

Great show last night. Wish we didn't have to wait 2 weeks for it, but oh well. Good to see that Matt "got it." I was thinking that he was going to be pissed about everything being fake, especially Brian. When he questioned Brian about being an actor, he looked truly hurt when Brian said "I am." Now that I think about it, in the post-show comments, Matt indicated that he had some resentments towards Brian because of lying to him, which he will have to work through.

I don't know about the fake shooting angle Jericholic proposed. I think that would be a bit too much for Matt to handle...possibly mentally/emotionally scarring him, or sending him into cardiac arrest.

Happy that Matt got all of those great prizes. I'll miss this show, especially Matt, Ashleigh, Hutch, and Kip. Their interactions kept me tuning in week after week.

I gotta say that as sick as this sounds, it would surely be one of those "HOLY SHIT" moments that you are sitting in front of the TV screaming exactly that, and would be totally memorable. They would have to give it a quick turnaround and reveal the truth so Matt didn't go off the edge though. As Tarnish and gargs already stated, it would have probably been too much for Matt to handle at that moment...

Personally, I thought the coolest thing about the final episode was how they depicted the whole crew, from cast to producers to techs, sharing Matt's mood. When "Earl was voted out", he was so sad, and everyone was right down in the dumps with him, and they knew! That was pretty good how that worked out.

I caught that "network exec" on a syndicated episode of Friends last night wearing a bad wig. He was kind of a risk to put on the show.

Did anybody catch the chick that got evicted first when she was formally introducing her *real* self to Matt?? It went something like "my real name is (so and so)..." She then looked DIRECTLY into the camera and mugged as if to say "I'm available for work!"

All in all, nice happy ending. It was pretty cool to see everybody all emotional and stuff. They really seemed to love the guy.

I was very dissappointed in the ending. They could've come up with a cleverer(more clever?) way to break it to him.

I also liked that when they kept telling Matt that "it was all for you", he rightly acknowledged that it was not quite at big as that, rather he was plugged into a situation designed for someone like him.

If the crew had any intentions (not that I think they did) on pulling some really outrageous stunt like pulling a gun, the eviction of Earl would have put an end to that. Playing an elaborate prank on someone is one thing, that would cross over into deliberate emotional harm and I never got the impression that the crew wanted anything but to keep the tone high with a few "shock" episodes. They didn't try to have any of the women hit him up either, which would have also crossed over into the realm of cruelity.

Now that you mention it, he did seem ticked at Brian, which Brian tried to ease by reinforcing that everything he'd told him was true. I could see several of the actors taking him off to the side for one-on-one apologies, especially Ashleigh, Brian and Hutch.

As for Joe Schmo II, I could see having a cast of actors and the "real guy" being the only one in with the writers to throw the actors curve balls left and right. The problem there would be the audience would probably assume that the entire thing was a work and everybody was in on it.

I suppose that they could take another shot with the same premise, considering Joe Millionaire was able to go out of country to do it.

Great final show ... although, speaking of this "shooting" concept, let me ask anyone this : when they showed the teaser for the final episode two weeks ago (where you hear this big commotion and Matt is screaming "What is going on?"), did anyone else think for a second that it actually DID sound like gunfire? If not that, it certainly sounded like Matt had lost it after hearing the truth and was trashing the place ...

I've loved this show since Day 1, and had no problems with last night's finale. As the "joke" was on Matt all along, there was no need to go into anything ridiculous or drawn out...they knew they had a good guy on their hands, and knew they'd get a reasonable reaction from him.

From what I've read online, the "aftermath" was filmed about two months after taping ended...enough time for Matt to gain some perspective, but before the show actually aired.

Granted, I wouldn't mind giving Dr. Pat three consecutive orgasms myself, yaknowwhatimean? :)

One more question ... In the episode where everyone has to roll around in honey and get the money to stick to their bodies, why did the producers feel the need to blur out Brian's nipples? I mean, that was just DISTURBING to me!

Over on televisionwithoutpity.com, one of the show's producers posts in the Joe Schmo thread, and he said there was no real reason for pixelating Brian's manboobs -- they just did it as a joke.
