What's the worst CD you've ever bought for only one track? Or, what's the most you paid for a CD that you only wanted to hear one song off of?

I once paid $25 for the import Japanese 7-song Maxi Single of "My Hero" by the Foo Fighters, just because it had "Baker Street" on it.

I don't have anything too egregious thankfully, especially since the internet came into my world, but I did drop about $18 for the Tori Amos import of "Strange Little Girls" to get her cover of "Only Women Bleed"

My wife has a TON of Tori Amos singles...I'm not a big fan, but I like the "Crucify" single...that's the one with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" right?

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes " Are a Drag " for their cover of " Over The Rainbow " . I didn't care much for the rest of the CD because it was all show tunes , but " Over the Rainbow " was a cool cut , I always wanted to here that song punked out .

BTW Lou , is that Gerry Rafertty's (Sp) " Baker Street " and how was it ?

Also spf2119 , how was Tori's cut of " Only Women Bleed " ?
That was always my favorite Alice Cooper song .

Thanks to internet piracy, that hasn't happen to me in awhile. But, I am still pissed about paying 30 bucks (In Japan Cd's are expen$ive) for the Cruel Intentions Soundtrack. To me every song sucked except Bitter
Sweet Symphony by the Verve Pipe. Which was the only song I wanted in the first place. Of course this was before I met my old friend Mr. Napster.

The worst CD I bought for only 1 track is Scott Weiland's 12 Bar Blues...the song was "My Lady Brings My Roof Down" or something like that; it was on the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack I think and I should've picked that up instead so I could've had that Garbage song that was played on the radio for like a week, "#1 Crush" or something.

I bought the Spacehog album with "In The Meantime" on it. That's a damn fine song, but I think at most there was one other song on there I liked. Haven't listened to it in a long while, so I don't remember.

Another album was the Tragically Hip's "Day For Night". I like the Hip, but cannot get into that album at all, and probably haven't listened to it more than twice.

Pheadfred: Yeah, it's the Gerry Rafferty tune. Except the Foo Fighters version is really fucking badass. All the sax parts are done by heavy distortion guitar. It rocks my ass off. If you can get email attachments, I can email it to ya. Or you can try to IM me.

I have a standing agreement with myself that I will not buy a CD which I haven't both heard and enjoyed 2 tracks off of.
Thus I rarely ever buy CDs on their release day, usually waiting until at least a second single is out or someone I know has bought it.

That being said, the worst I probably own that I only like one track of is Harvey Danger which I purchased a few years ago on the strengrh of "Flagpole Sitta" (which I actually have on one of my burnt CDs anyway, making me look fairly stupid).

Oh well. It rarely sees the light of day, but it makes for a nice filler to make my CD collection look a bit bigger.

Just for future reference, since I can't try it myself until the weekend, can you transfer mp3s vis AOL IM? I can't do it via MSN Messenger, so obviously this would be a big advantage to know about.

Yes you can. You might have trouble if you're behind a firewall. Why, did you wanna get the song from me?

No, but thanks for the offer. I was just thinking that if you had a large enough bunch of people, such as we have here, who have AIM, then there's some interesting possibilities there should you not be able to find what you want on the castrated Napster or WinMX or whatever.

If it`s a band I`m a big fan of, I always try to get their new albums ASAP. Otherwise, yeah, I wait till I`ve heard a couple songs to get it. In fact, I was just looking at my very same Harvey Danger album which I haven`t listened to in years.

There are definitely certain bands/artists who I will trust and buy their albums sound unheard basically, because they haven't let me down. After a couple of stinkers though (and I'm looking at YOU Metallica!) that policy can change. I'm sure everyone has their list of people who they just trust will put out something they like pretty much every time out.

Okay, so how many of you have bought a CD for one track, and then come out liking the whole entire CD? This used to happen to me a lot because my mom liked to play the 'Buy 10 CDs, get another 30 for free!" game where she'd join up, ask me to pick 10-20 cds I wanted for free, and then she'd quit. The company would then send her another gimmick thing like that of course, and I'd end up having to choose more CDs. I know I still have at least 15 cds sitting around that I have never listened to, because of so much mass purchasing.

Anyway, the one that comes to my mind first is the Batman Forever soundtrack (which was more songs 'inspired' by the movie, not used in it) mainly for the U2 song Hold me, Thrill me, Kiss me, Kill me. That song kicked ass, and it turned out that the rest of the CD did too.

I bought the Lemonheads "It's a Shame About Ray" CD for their remake of "Mrs. Robinson" and fell totally in love with the rest of it. Awesome stuff on there.

Actually, the inside of the CD cover is on display in my office. I was bored one day at an old job and photocopied the interior which has all the lyrics to the songs (except Mrs. Robinson) jumbled and used different coloured highlighters to connect the lyrics. Like I said, I was bored.

I've bought too many CD's for one song to single any one of them out. Luckily, they were usually part of a Columbia House entry package under one of many versions of my name, which allowed me to get free CD's for putting myself back in the club again.

For me it was Chantal Kreviazuk "Under These Rocks and Stones" which I bought solely for "Surrounded" at first. Not only did I like the album, I liked her other albums as well.

My mom didn't even change her name, Drew. She just quit, and ColumbiaHouse would send her a package that said "Come back to us and we'll give you all these CDs!" So she did, and then she quit again. This went on for years until she finally got tired of it.

when i worked at barnes and noble i spent $15 after the discount for a specially ordered cd from some band because counting crows' adam duritz did back up vocals on one track. i didn't know it was only back up vocals and i didn't know it was only one track, but that takes the cake for the most i've paid for the smallest reason.

(for the record, counting crows lost me with "counting the satellites" but i had a fistfull of bootlegs from the "august and everything after" tour with cracker.)

i've bought the primitive radio gods album and no doubt's "tragic kingdom" three times each. i finally decided not to sell the third copies.

i have a twelve volume mix tape called "songs from cds i sold" that is jam packed with the two or three good songs on bullshit cds.

ps: someone mentioned the kelly deal breeders album (as opposed to the one with the lead singer from belly) - they have a new one coming out that is being produced by my mans steve albini, who was responsible for nirvana's "in utero" and bush's "razorblade suitcase".
