I used to love Elliot Smith. As I grew older, the intense negativity of his lyrics began to turn me off, but the emotional impact of his music was always undeniable. The scene in Royal Tenenbaums where "Needle in the Hay" plays while Luke Wilson's character attempts suicide is completely devestating.
