I have had a dreamcast for awhile, and I was thinking the other day that I could use some more games for it. Currently, I have Crazy Taxi, Hydro Thunder, Sega classic pack, Worms Armageddon, NFL2k2, NBA2k2, and virtua tennis. As for tastes I enjoy everything except RPGs. Any help would be appreciated.

First off, why the hell don't you have Fire Pro Wrestling D yet?

Soul Calibur was a must on day one, and it's a must today. Other quality fighting games include VF3tb, Dead or Alive 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Guilty Gear X, Project:Justice (Rival Schools 2), and Vampire Chronicles (the Darkstalkers series in one handy package).

I have a soft spot for Record of Lodoss War: it's got RPG'ish overtones, but it's an action game at heart. If for nothing else, get it to get a chuckle out of the team of treasure-hunting goblins you acquire partway through...

Super Puzzle Fighter 2X is probably my favorite version of all the ports -- it has the classic game, plus two additional modes (one similar to Dr. Mario, one similar to Puyo Puyo).

Mr. Driller is fun on any platform.

Bangai-O is Pure Shooting Satisfaction, as are Rez and Ikaruga.

Oh yeah -- I am one of about six people on the planet who really enjoyed Seventh Cross Evolution. It's maddeningly repetitive, large chunks of the creation process are somewhat random and the framerate regularly chugs, but it's just weird enough to appeal to me.

If you're going for something like Fire Pro D (which I would love to take for a spin, I've got 6-man Scramble and FP G), give Giant Gram 2000 a whirl. Arcade-style wrestling with All Japan and NOAH. It was in production just before the split and thus carries both logos.

Instead of chipping the box, I had gotten the GameShark for the DC and it works great for GG2K. I've seen them as recently as a couple months ago at Walmart and Electronics Boutique. Just plug the pack into the controller and boot with their disc. Easy.

Make that seven. I had that game the day it came out and played it nearly 12 hour solid. I loved that game...

Don't forget Chu-Chu Rocket, the world's best space mouse-based puzzle game! it also has really great competitive and cooperative modes.

Also, Bust-a-Move is a must-have for any system. You know, the bubble game!

If there's one thing a Dreamcast doesn't need, it's a chip. There are a handful of boot-disc solutions (including the Utopia Boot Disc, available free for download from many web sites), and then there are other methods (arrr! arrr, matey!) that I won't discuss here for making imports playable.

One other nifty thing about the DC is its capabilities for homebrewing, if you're into emulators. A quick Google search for Dreamcast emulation projects will reveal lots of possibilities. (This is why I desperately want a GamePark GP32, so that I can play PC-Engine games while on the road without sucking up major AA batteries with my TurboExpress.)

I'd been toying with the idea of seeing what I could do with GG2K (I've produced English patches for a couple PSX games), but I've got other stuff on my plate that keeps putting it off.

Now that I'm home and can see my stack of DC games, I'd forgotten to suggest Powerstone and Marvel vs Capcom 2. I do have New Japan 4, but it just doesn't feel like the 2nd installment did back for the PSX. I can second recommendations above for Project Justice and Soul Caliber, possibly the only absolutely MUST HAVE game that the console had.

Hear, hear on the Powerstone. That game was ten thousand kinds of fun, and I don't even really enjoy fighting games.

I still can't understand why they haven't produced a GC version yet, given the 'Cube's love for party games.

And, on that note, I now want to buy a Dreamcast. Have any of you folks gotten one recently? If so, where?

This is a pretty good deal on a Dreamcast.

I'm not getting paid for recommending it - I really think you aren't going to beat that outside of Ebay.

How about a 15 games for 50 bucks deal at EBGames?

(Granted, many of the games are bottom-feeders, but that's still three bucks a game before shipping. I could recommend Alien Front Online, Armada, Chu Chu Rocket, Illbleed, Maken X, Plasma Sword, NFL2K1, Speed Devils, Tony Hawk and Toy Commander as reasonable B-list titles and leave the other five to individual whim.)

$39 w/Crazy Taxi is hard to beat, but Electronics Boutique can probably manage it. My local stores all have hordes of preowned DCs for $29, and they want $5.99 for a preowned Crazy Taxi. Of course, that's all based on in-store availability, so your local mileage may vary.
