Here goes, let's say Zach Gowen got signed by an NFL team. If you didn't know Zach has one leg. In the NFL, you need two feet on the ground and in bounds with control of the ball to be down. Now of course one knee=two feet. So he could kneel the ball. But let's say Zach is a WR, he gets thrown the ball, starts hopping around and gets nailed by Romanowski. He drops the ball. Is it a fumble or an incompletion?

That exact scenario couldn't.. but I wouldn't be shocked if someone with a prosthetic leg(maybe below the knee) ended up playing in the NFL, sometime in the next 10 years. Or at least a Kerry Von Erich style prosthetic foot. | Jaguar

He'd never be open? He could be a WR, the corner could blitz in some kinda zone defense, and Zach could be thrown the ball at the near the line of scrimmage. | Melon' Head

Well I'm going to assume that if he is hopping around that he has possesion of the ball and that the hopping would constitue a, how do they word it in the rule book, an offensive movement, I know thats not right.
It would be similar to the judgement calls that officials have to make on a regular basis with bang bang plays. Has he caught the ball and started to move forward. Yes, fumble; No, incomplete. I'm going to say that the hopping would make it a fumble. | wordlife

There is some kid on I think San Diego State (or for a college out in CA) who is playing with a prostethic leg right now, he is a 5th year who lost the leg in 2000 when some guy caved his leg in. and plays on special teams. I can't remember his name. | pieman

Neil Perry is the kid's name, and he goes to San Jose State. He's gotten in on one play so far this year. I heard him on the Dan Patrick Show (on ESPN Radio!) He seems very well adjusted to his ordeal. Tremendous heart coming back from that.
