My only response is disappointment that it took so long. Had this happened in late May perhaps they might have been able to pull this season out. But game after game Manuel making decisions of epic idiocy were too much to overcome. I don't normally advocate the "fire the manager" theory of sports, but in this case this manager actively cost his team games through poor decision making and under-utilization of talent. He should have been fired that Thursday afternoon in New York when he pushed back Buehrle when the White Sox had a chance for a sweep so he could pitch against the mighty Tigers. Result: White Sox blow an early 2 run lead against Mussina and lose to the Yankees, and then Buehrle gets whacked by the Tigers. If they win those 2 games, perhaps they could have survived Loiza's choke jobs against Radke. | spf

Rather than be a proactive manager and take control saying "Esteban, take the night off and pitch tomorrow, especially since you're out of your normal rotation anyhow (it was Garland's night to pitch)" Manuel just meekly sits there looking confused as ever as Loaiza sneezed his way to a shelling. | drjayphd

I'm sure the 5.60 bullpen ERA had something to do with it...though, yeah, you really can't blame Gamboa for that. Give him something to work with and we'll talk.

Gamboa was part of Tony Muser's staff. No reason that Tony Pena shouldn't be able to choose his own coaches is there? | | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
