From Hyatte's 411 writings...

Ahem I STRONGLY recommend that Widro and Ashish both put SOMEONE in charge of interviewing potential writers. Someone who can cut through the bullshit and properly separate the talent from the crap (Eric S would ROCK).

I FURTHER recommend that both owners of 411 CUT THE SHIT AND STOP BRINGING IN FUCKING LAME IMITATORS OF ME!! One of whom even goes so far as to make stupid PATTERSON JOKES.

These watered down, LAME ASS copycats do NOT make the site better. They make the site look WEAK. (and if said person/people are reading this dont bother me just fucking STOP)

I know my ego knows no bounds but the truth is I bring an AUDIENCE and I really do NOT ask for much but the style is MINE I spent 3 years developing it and 3 MORE years trying to season it. Its bad enough Mojo fucking Bruce Mitchell and Scooter Fucking Keith are trying real hard to emulate it now I have little unknowns being handed a forum to do it too? ON MY OWN SITE??

Thanks guys. Good job. Well done.

Maybe Ill just bitch and bitch and keep blasting away until I make my point and if not here, maybe at Fleas site and maybe some other writers will join me. I mean, God knows you have plenty of guys who can wing right up and replace me on Mondays, right boys? Im washed up all done. Pretty much worthless. I dont even DO Patterson jokes anymore so lets bring someone who DOES!

I need to think on this awhile. (but you all had better bookmark Fleas site, just in case)

Isn't this the same guy that writes those *original* 'Dear Abby Flea thought of the idea first, but he's not using it anymore so I'm taking it advice columns' at Flea's site?

This is nothing new. Eric S also had a go at the new writers on the site in one of his last columns for stealing his 'trademarks'. I think HHHyate is just trying to protect his spot (Ha! Satire! LOL2003!!!!1!).

Pick the funniest joke:

A). That moderately intelligent, intermittently funny, grammatically challenged egomaniacal blowhard is a "writing style."
B). That someone thinks he "invented" that style.
C). That it took three years to "season" that style.
D). That others are trying really hard to sound just like it.
E). They're equally funny.

Hyatte does have a unique writing style. A lot of people do try to swipe it but probably not as many as he thinks.

I'm pretty sure that Flea doesn't have a patent on internet advice columns. Besides, Hyatte does a good job with them.
Daniels and Grut have spent a fair share of time detailing their grievances with the new writers, too, so it's not one or two people on the site being prima-donnas.

Sean Carless seems like a really nice guy. He's taking jokes from Hyatte's past work. He's taking jokes from my past work. It's insulting, and the worst part is that he doesn't even realize it. He's drawing from his influences when he writes his column, and we're his influences. I'm flattered, but 411 does not need another columnist who writes in the style of Grutman and Hyatte. It has Grutman and Hyatte.

When you're his friend, Hyatte is a really good guy. He's proud of what he's done on the Internet. Jeb, I bet you're proud of the work you do. I bet you wouldn't want someone taking things you've created and using them as their own. It would be insulting.

Hyatte might not have invented being funny, I'm pretty sure he didn't, but he sure did write with a style that wasn't used by IWC writers until after he showed up. If you hate that style and hate him, fine, but that doesn't mean people aren't still doing their own version of the Mop Up and it doesn't mean Chris has no right to be upset when one of those columns appears on his site.

"Maybe Ill just bitch and bitch and keep blasting away until I make my point and if not here, maybe at Fleas site and maybe some other writers will join me." - Hyatte

You forgot to mention that in your list of jokes, Jeb. That some other writers would join Hyatte if he were to leave. Well, I would. I don't know if this makes the situation funnier for you, but I love giving people a good laugh.

Agreed. As soon as that happens, I will be insulted. Currently, people tell me to be upset that the "Battle of the Brands" concept was directly ripped off by the Torch. Personally, I'm not, because I just stole it from the old Wrestleline. And whoever thought of it for Wrestleline shouldn't begin to be the least bit upset, because it's such a vague idea. "Evaluate, analyze and rate two similar shows in competition with each other." Just because whoever created the RAW/Nitro ratings for Wrestleline was the first to think of comparing wrestling shows in the IWC doesn't erase the fact that hundreds of people have been comparing non-wrestling shows in the real world for decades.

And I'm probably the first person to get notice for recapping/commenting on shows entirely in haiku. But someone who writes a haiku about wrestling (*coughScottKeithcough*) isn't ripping me off. American authors have been using haiku for commentary/satirical purposes for eighty years. And besides, CRZ or someone else probably wrote one haiku about wrestling sometime in the last ten years, and I'm ripping them off (just as someone might have written a Mop-Up style column, that pre-dated Hyatte's writings, that no one noticed at the time).

...but he sure did write with a style that wasn't used by IWC writers until after he showed up. If you hate that style and hate him, fine, but that doesn't mean people aren't still doing their own version of the Mop Up ....

It's a nice contention, but it's a non-starter. And what makes it obvious is what I mentioned above. So no one else in the IWC wrote like that before Hyatte did. Wow. What about the rest of the world the much larger world outside this dim corner of the internet?

Talking about yourself, making off-color jokes about other races and sexual orientations, bitching about random things and complaining more about commentators than about what they're commenting on this is nothing new. It's pretty much the stereotype for the Rabble Rouser. Hyatte ripped off a form that was represented in abundance, in the world, before he started writing. Just because he was the first to gain widespread notice for doing it in the IWC doesn't make it original. And everyone who sounds like him can easily claim that they are ripping off the archetypal character that he ripped off in the first place.

Granted, some of these guys really are ripping off Hyatte and Hyatte alone. But that hardly makes him a paragon of originality. It just makes these people that much less worth reading: a copy of a copy of a stereotype. Hey, imitation might be the sincerest form of flattery; but if these people are that bad, is their flattery really something that anyone wants?

You forgot to mention that in your list of jokes, Jeb. That some other writers would join Hyatte if he were to leave. Well, I would.

Okay. Hey, if it makes you happy, go for it. I don't share that kind of community feeling regarding the "IWC." I'm here for the writing, a few laughs, some fun killing time. Friendship's a private thing. I mean, I think Rick Scaia's a good guy; but if he goes completely sideways and turns OO into a half-wrestling half-Pokmon pornographic fan-fiction site, well, my ass is jumping ship for the nearest respectable wrestling site that'll run my column.

I don't begrudge Hyatte his friends, his fans or his success. He's earned them. He has colleagues who respect him, fans who defend him and lots of hits for his column. I may not think he's deserving of all that, but he's still got all of that going for him. None of it makes him some paragon of originality, though.

Bruce Mitchell and Scott Keith are trying to rip off Hyatte? Huh? Is he talking about two different guys?

Hyatte has been grouching over Mitchell's "Mojo Stream of Conciousness" column since it started, noting that it was very similar in style to the Mop Ups.

You know I think people are taking this "copycat" thing too seriously. Since when are jokes trademarked anyway? And for the record I never "stole" anyones material, as a matter of fact I never even read 411 before 2 months ago. I've talked to Grut a couple of times and I see his point about two similar columns but that was not done by design. When I submitted my entry in the writers selection at 411, I sent two very different columns. Ashish happened to like the more satirical one and asked me to write that. The fact that I make jokes about the same people that others do hardly makes me a hack. As a matter of fact all of this moot because no one even gets paid anyway. It's news, and we're reporting on the same news. If there's a hurricane in Florida wouldn't the same story be told all different news casts? Only in different words. It's not like we're talking about a screenplay or a book being plagiarized, it's wrestling opinions. No different than any message board. The fact is everyone who has buried the new writers there has said nothing positive and not once gave any sort of advice to help the newbies find their own style other than "He's makes jokes about Pat Patterson!" I never took it that seriously and after reading this board I can say that 99% of you are better writers than me, but I just wrote for fun, I never believed the hype.
