Who do you think should be on or off of the playoff roster? I think Suppan should be off, and Bronson Arroyo should be on, leaving 8 more spots for the bullpen. Assuming the roster is 25 in the playoffs, here's how I'd have it:

POSITION PLAYERS
Johnny Damon
Todd Walker
Nomar Garciaparra
Manny Ramirez
David Ortiz
Kevin Millar
Trot Nixon
Bill Meuller
Jason Varitek
Damian Jackson
Doug Mirabelli
Gabe Kapler

STARTING PITCHERS
Pedro Martinez
Derek Lowe
Tim Wakefield

LONG RELIEVERS/SPOT STARTERS
Bronson Arroyo
Casey Fossum (if his arm's OK)
Ramiro Mendoza
John Burkett

OTHER RELIEVERS
Alan Embree
Scott Williamson
Mike Timlin
BK Kim

Hmm....I'm 2 guys short, 3 if Fossum's not healthy. Little help?

EDIT: Put Burkett on. He should be on a short leash, but can be effective.

Fuck Suppan. He's been absolutely worthless since we picked him up. Burkett doesn't suck, he just needs an inning or so to warm up to his A-game. That's a serious deficiency, but he's leaps and bounds better than Suppan.

Here's my take (almost the same as yours)

Offense:

Johnny Damon
Todd Walker
Nomar Garciaparra
Manny Ramirez
David Ortiz
Kevin Millar
Bill Mueller
Trot Nixon
Jason Varitek
Doug Mirabelli (Apparently we need him to catch for Wakefield- I don't like it, though- Wake should get used to Tek, instead)
Gabe Kapler
Damian Jackson
David McCarty (He's solid- I'd use him or Kapler in event of an injury)
Adrian Brown (He's an extra PR- almost as fast as Jackson)

Starting Pitchers:

Pedro Martinez
Derek Lowe
Tim Wakefield

Long relievers/ Spot Starters:

Bronson Arroyo
John Burkett
Brandon Lyon
Casey Fossum (Not sure about his injury)

Mendoza sucks. He has no business on the Red Sox, let alone in the playoffs. He's got a freakin' 6.85 ERA with 3-5 W/L. He is a blight. Brandon Lyon is so much better.

Relievers:

Alan Embree
Mike Timlin
Scott Williamson

Closer:

Byung-Hyun Kim (He's my boy. Just don;'t put him in against the Yankees- Use Embree or Timlin)

That's how I'd do it- Emphasis on offense, because the rest of our pitchers are more harm than good.

Where's Lou Merloni? Come on, he's from Framingham!

Lou Merloni will most likely make the roster. One of the papers (the Herald, I think) reported during the week that he was practicing throwing to second from behind the plate, and will be the emergency third catcher, as well as a backup infielder.

From what I have heard Fossum has shoulder tendonitis(sp?) and probably won't pitch again until next year.

Though, I could be wrong on both accounts once the roster is announced. :)

I'd drop my Sox playoff roster here, but I have some deck chairs to rearrange on the Titanic. So I'll be busy.

If Fossum's out, I'd go with Todd Jones, I guess, for lack of anyone better. Or maybe put Suppan in as a reliever.

I don't like Merloni at all- I'd give Adrian Brown the nod over him.

Starters:
Pedro
D-Lowe
Wake

4th starter/Long Reliever:
Burkett
Suppan

Bullpen:
Kim
Embree
Williamson
Saurbeck
Timlin

Starters:
CF; Damon
2B; Walker
SS; Nomar
LF; Manny
DH; Ortiz
1B; Millar
RF; Kapler/Nixon
3B; Mueller
C: Tek

Off the bench:
Jackson
McCarty
Mirabelli
Merloni
Kapler/Nixon
Brown

I think they will go with 10 picters since Fossum is injured and it's only a best of 5 series. If they make it to the ALCS I suspect they will carry 11 pitchers then.

Fossum's been shut down for the season, so forget him for playoff rosters. Here's the likely 25:

Pitchers: Martinez, Wakefield, Lowe, Burkett, Kim, Embree, Timlin, Williamson, Suppan (The GM traded for him, he won't leave him off the roster), Arroyo, Sauerbeck (don't want him, but they'll take 2 lefties).

Position players: Damon, Mueller, Nixon, Walker, Garciaparra, Ramirez, Ortiz, Millar, Varitek, Jackson, Marribelli, I'm from Framingham, Kapler (who is a concern if the series goes 5 as it would be a day game on Yom Kippur), McCarty.

I don't think Grady will take the chance with Sauerbeck. He's been ABYSMAL this year. His being a lefty won't balance out his record. He's got a high-6 ERA, if I'm not mistaken.
