"If You Could Only See" is the worst track on that album, in my opinion. "Casual Affair" and "Open Up Your Eyes," however, were pretty wicked songs.
My worst moment in music buying history was in late 1992 when I picked up Ned's Atomic Dustbin's Are You Normal? for the song "Not Sleeping Around." What a terrible album.

Oh no...you did NOT just say that Drew. You did not just slag Mr. Finn. You did not just imply that at least all but one of the following "Try Whistling This" "She Will Have Her Way" "Sinner" or "Last One Standing" were not good songs. Y'see, this is where we differ my friend. As I think that Sam Roberts' full-length album (We Were Born In A Flame) was very, very good. Catchy, yet unique enough to be damned good.
I just find it too repetitive. Each song sounds different enough from each other, but the individual song itself is just the same chord pattern over and over for four minutes (yeah, that's technically every song, but there is NO variation).

Julian Lennon's "Photograph Smile"
Now I'll admit, my only interest in it, is because his dad is John F'n Lennon... but the single "I Dont Wanna Know" has a pretty catchy hook, and while the rest of the lyrics werent great, it was a nice headbopping song.
So I bought the CD... total shit.
I felt the same way about REM's "Monster" album
I love REM, but that album was pitiful, except for the single "What's The Frequency Kenneth"

Easily his worst album...I'm not surprised you didn't like the rest of it. Hope it didn't put you off him entirely--some of his other stuff is great, especially Talking With The Taxman About Poetry.

I heard "Beautiful Disaster" by 311 (which I thought was Cake at the time with the intro), and since "311" is one of my favorite CDs I went out and bought "Transistor". MISTAKE! I think Nick and the guys were a little too herbally-enhanced while they made it and it sounds like relaxing "music" you'd hear while getting a massage. Ack.
The last CD I bought from a band I'd never heard of based on a single was X-Ecutioners "Built from Scratch" after I heard "It's Goin' Down". That CD fits PERFECTLY on this list, I think.
And I like the first three songs on "Frogstomp", but stop the CD after that. | DrewDewce

Well, running multiple name "scams" on Columbia House back in the day helped that list grow quite a bit.
I'm a big Crowded House fan, and like his Split Enz stuff too, but Neil Finn's Try Whistling This just didn't do it for me other than "She Will Have Her Way." Again, I didn't like saying it, but there it was.
And the Billy Bragg album did scare me off his other stuff. I never even attempted to listen to the Arlo Guthrie songs he did with Wilco. | drjayphd

I dunno, Bang and Blame was oka at best... Star 69 and STarnge Currencies are very unmemorable... but with songs like King Of Comedy, that seep into your soul and drive you crazy with hatred I cannot retreact my statement.

Some CD's the snookered me into buying them by good singles were 3 Doors Down "The Better Life". I liked the singles but the album I just couldn't get into it... The worst might have been Catherine Wheel "Happy Days". That 'waydown' song hooked me totally, I bought the CD and I'd say maybe one or two other songs were okay everything else I couldn't stand.
