You hear a song, you love it, you buy the album figuring any artist that puts THAT out must have more music that I'll like, and it turns out the other songs sound nothing like the song that hooked you ( or the opposite-every song is a clone of the single) I bought Rob Dougan's CD (import) on ebay after hearing "Clubbed to Death" on the soundtrack to "The Matrix". I like techno instrumentals (Darude, Chemical Brothers), but this just sucked -mostly classical, slow, boring music.
The only other example I can think of right now is The Dire Straits' "Brothers In Arms". "Money for Nothing" had that beat, that guitar, that something. The album just wasn't much like the song.
( I guess we should all take advantage of sites like amazon where you can listen to samples on songs before buying)

I actually thought the second single off that album was better than "You Get What You Give", which annoyed me. | OlFuzzyBastard

This happens a whole lot. A couple years ago, I kept hearing this song on the radio called "Flood" by Jars of Clay, which I absolutely loved. I also heard that Adrian Belew produced and even played on the album, so I just ran out and bought it. Boy was that a mistake. I still love "Flood," but this album was nowhere near what I was looking for. | Torchslasher

Silverchair- I loved the hit Tomorrow off of the album Frogstomp (I believe that was the title). The rest of the CD didn't work for me.
POD- I enjoyed many of the singles off of the last album they had, so they have gone up in my eyes. But on their first album, the single Southtown was the only worthwhile track on the CD.
3 Door Down- Here is the opposite of POD. I loved the first album, but this latest album is pretty underwhelming except for the big single "When I'm Gone."
Stone Sour- I didn't expect to get a lot of Slipknot Jr. and I should have known better. I love Bother, but nothing on the album is like it, and that's not a good thing. | Big Bad

Y'see, this is where we differ my friend. As I think that Sam Roberts' full-length album (We Were Born In A Flame) was very, very good. Catchy, yet unique enough to be damned good. | Bullitt

100% agreed.
Mine must have been getting sucked in by "Cannonball" by The Breeders, then buying "Last Splash." As cool as Cannonball is, the rest of that CD just blew in my opinion... | drjayphd

| #11 Posted on 23.9.03 0018.11 Reposted on: 23.9.10 0019.31 | On New Radicals: Aside from the two singles, the only moment on that album worth hearing is Danielle Brisebois starting it off by saying "Come on! Make my nipples hard! Let's go!" Surprisingly, the singles are still better than that.
Also, I'll submit Cold's 13 Ways to Bleed On Stage. Then again, I shoulda expected as much, but the three singles ("Just Got Wicked", "No One", and "End of the World") are they only halfway decent songs. And agreed on Silverchair... but only depending on how I'm feeling. Most of the stuff there's hit or miss.
EDIT: (self-twap) How could I forget Verbena's La Musica Negra? Only good songs on there are "Way Out West" and "Killing Floor". Conveniently, the first two songs.

Re: Cold - "Bleed" is the one song for me that I have ever heard them do that I really enjoyed.
In it's own way, my current one track album is the new A Silver Mt. Zion... album "This is Our Punk Rock". The first track is just astounding, whereas the rest is just insane amounts of Efrim wailing and whining and just generally making a sonic hash of things. | Scar

I saw a video for the single "Tragic Flaw" on MuchMusic in '95 or so. Loved it. It apparently wasn't released in the states, so my cousin picked up the disc for me in Edmonton.
I listened to the whole disc once and put it away. I really didn't like it at all. It's been on the shelf ever since except once when I pulled it out to burn "Tragic Flaw" onto a compilation disc for long night drives.
But then dwaters had to come along and start this thread, and I dug the disc up to remember what the album title was, and then I got curious and put it in...and now I'm sorta LIKING it. In fact, I'm liking it a lot.
This is all your fault. | dwaters
