I bought this today and I must say it is a unique game. I've never played Raw 1 so I can't compare the two. Here I will give you the run down of what I thought.

Pros:

-Edit your own theme music. (Tommy's got the "Man in the Box" back, yeah!)
-4 Player Story mode (more on this later)
-In depth CAW with customize your own Titantron
-Excellent graphics
-Grapple system wasn't as bad as I feared. It's easy to learn.
-Multiple finishing moves. If someone kicked out of the move you can pick them up and do it again.

Cons:

-Those bastards won't stay down. Seriously, just because you dominate the match and you do a finisher, it doesn't guarantee a finish. In a 3 way with my friends, Kurt Angle layed out everyone with Angle Slams and both of us jumped right back up.
-Kane still has a mask, and you can't get rid of it unless you just clone him as a CAW and make him that way.
-A lot of people have different finishers. RVD has the Van Daminator and the 5 Star but they are not finishers. Instead, he has a back drop and a pancake splash.

Now I want to talk about the Story Mode. This thing is crazy. It reminds me of WCW Nitro in the later years. It can be lame but in a funny way.

Example #1:
My roommate played as RVD. He chose to interfere in a match. Instead of just running down to the ring to interfere, before the match there is a cut scene of RVD WALKING~. Then 2 security guards run up to him. RVD backhands each security guard once, sending each of them crashing down in slow motion (Think of the 6 Million Dollar Man). He then stares down the 3rd guard and he just lets him by to go to the ring.

Example #2:
I'm playing as Tommy Dreamer in a match with Stone Cold. I make Austin tap in 3 minutes to a halfcrab. Later in the show, my friend is playing as Brock Lesner against D'Von Dudley. After 6 F-5's and dominating the majority of the match, the match ends in a 10 minute time limit draw.

In the end, I would recommend the game as long as you don't take wrestling games to seriously. It's got its flaws but it is very fun.

(Edit: Also the referees have different speeds. So far Earl has been pretty good, but Tim White counts reeeaaallly slow. This could be to blame for Brock not being able to beat D'Von. Yes you can chose your ref in exhibition matches.)

This game is SERIOUSLY flawed... I hit Jazz with THREE Last Rides, and she never even flinched. About five minutes into the match, she knocked me down and I was completely unable to get up. I could kick out of her (repeated) pin attempts with ease, but getting up was impossible. IIRC, the only reason I wound up back on my feet was because she picked me up. The match went to a time limit draw. The same thing happened to my friend's character... he got taken down, kicked, pin attempt, kick out. Five times in a row, with zero progress toward actually getting up. He only wound up getting up when his opponent's multiple pin attempts brought them too close to the ropes and forced a rope break.

The next match I had I won in less than two minutes by ignoring my power moves altogether and bearhugging my opponent. After a whole three applications he tapped. Every match I or my friend have won has been with submissions. I literally have never even SEEN a pinfall take place.

CAW-wise, having played WM19 a few days ago, this game falls short in several ways. The 'Cube has a much better system for designing your own entrance, and the layout is more intuitive, for example. The only things Raw has on it is the ability to use your own tunes, an extra "backstage" outfit for your character (although that in itself is pretty irritating, since you have to redesign your guy from the ground up), and the rather interesting ability to do your finisher from several different places.

The story mode is really cool, aside from a bit of randomness. Example: in my character's inexplicable feud with Jazz (which started for no apparent reason thanks to Eric Bischoff) I decided to force a change by manipulating someone to attack another wrestler. My character walked up TO JAZZ and asked her to do his dirty work. I was less than shocked when she refused. (:

I'm really hoping that Smackdown JBI is a more solid overall game... WM19 and Raw 2 are both decent, but the flaws are so irritating that I can't see playing either one longer than it'll take to create my CAW and unlock whatever unlockables are available.

[nitpick]You can check for yourself whether or not JBI is the better game, as its been out for just under two years now.[/nitpick]

Other than that, this sounds about as exciting as the first Raw game. Nice graphics, and you can change your theme music, but not much to the game beyond that. The innovations of hitting your finisher from several places sounds useful, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the SD series integrate that if people respond. The two costumes sounds useful, but I can see it being ignored on other systems due to memory (card) constraints. And if you have to redesign your backstage costume from the ground up, does that mean you could make your CAW look like the Undertaker when he wrestles, but Trish Stratus when *he's* backstage?

Yes, yes you can. Nothing carries over between the two outfits. My CAW's backstage outfit very nearly became some kind of anemic, undernourished shadow of the in-ring version because I neglected to go through the fairly tedious "resize every single body part" portion.

The usefulness factor is probably my main problem with the game (that isn't related to the ridiculously imbalanced gameplay)... none of the things Raw 2 has exclusive to it really make a big difference in the actual game. The theme music is nice, but after a while you're just going to skip your entrance to get right to the action. The second outfit is nice, but it really only gets used in the Story mode, and even then it's just a different look.

And hell, to be honest, the graphics don't impress me much at all. The only thing Raw 2 has there that I've seen is a nice reflection effect, which looks rather stupid on a human body. Several of the characters look like they've just finished bathing in Crisco, and many of the others look like they're molded out of plastic.

I agree with everything you've said but the camp value in this game is at least worth a rental.

So far the only "trap" we've set is just rigging up a bucket to fall on Crash Holly's head. Oh that sneaky Brock Lesner!

There is no text or voice acting in the game. Everyone communicates in mime. It reminds me of the Sims. I did enjoy having Chris Jericho use his Jedi mind trick on Stephanie McMahon to make her attack the Big Show. No real reason, I just wanted her to.

Edit: My roommate is in the process of making the Hulk. Backstage he is mild mannered Bruce Banner, but in the ring he is a 7+ foot green beast.

Ohhh yes. The camp value is quite fun, it and the promise of unlockable stuff is what keeps me and my buddy playing the Story/Season mode in spite of the fact that eventually we have to WRESTLE. I love the ridiculous traps (I conked Billy Gunn on the head with a deadly cardboard box last night) and the fact that when you choose to "steal" from a wrestler, you steal their old clothes like some kind of pervert.

I wish I were Dr. Frankenstein, I'd chop bits off of this and WM19 and cobble together one hell of a game...

Its like THQ decided instead of making three decent wrestling games, they made two passable games and one awesome one. I guess it would make sense that the awesome one would be for the system with the biggest install base.

From what your saying though, I wouldn't mind if they implemented the trapping game in HCTP.

That Hulk idea is awesome.

This could also work with He-Man.

Prince Adam in the Back, He-Man in the Ring

Or anyone else.

Bruce Wayne/Batman
Clark Kent/Superman
Peter Parker/Spider-Man
etc...

I like the game. I think that it's fun to play, but needs works. THQ needs to give it better controls and some graphic improvements.

I don't like the way you chara. walks at all looks stiff is a under statement and there needs more stuff to pick from like smackdown.

The contols are wrong in every sence of the word. Why the can't use the 19 controls or even Smackdown. You and the wrestlers can hit each other TO easily.

I like the backstage, but yes dialoge would be nice.

I think THQ needs to throw the teams together and make them have one kind of system in the controls and story mode, because 19 has great controls, but I beat the revenge mode in like a day. Raw has a great season mode , but contols suck.

I know that Raw and Wrestlemaina are new and Smackdown been around awhile, but I don't understand how they can not just ask us what good about Smackdown and use that. Then build the graphic and stuff around that. I know that Raw is mosty made for the looks hell most Xbox's games are made for the look, but doesn't mean that all they should do. Come on Micosoft stop try to out pretty PS2 and make great games, becuase I have a Xbox that sit there for most of the time and my PS2 is use all the time. Bah bah bah talking to much later guys.

Minor nitpicky point, but don't forget that Raw 2 was actually designed by Anchor (the guys who did at least some of the UFC games) whereas Wrestlemania XIX/the Smackdown series were developed by Yuke's. THQ is just the publisher of them. So that at least accounts for some of the major differences between the games.

Back on topic, I was going to buy it Wednesday morning, but the local EB was sold out... hopefully they'll be restocked by Saturday....

Yuke's know how to make a wrestling game and I think that the next Smackdown going to be great. Raw 2 is good and I will play it for awhile or till Smackkdown.

On a Raw 2-related note, have any of you other folks who have it managed to unlock anything aside from the clothes that you steal from the other wrestlers?

By the way, has anyone figured out how to win a ladder match?

I've won every ladder match I've been in thus far. Usually, I wait for my opponent to place the ladder, then climb it, then when I grab on to the belt just mash A,X,Y, and the D-Pad like mad. (Some have said it's better to rotate the left analog stick instead of the D-Pad). My CAW has Ladder+ as one of his profile things though, so that may be making the difference for me.

You can also unlock Titantron movies for theatre mode by stealing from people a 3rd time.

I had the opportunity to play this game at a local EB. Some other kid was playing there, so I challenged him to a 1-on-1 match.

He chose John Cena. I chose Stephanie McMahon.

Bottom line: Stephie beat Cena in under two minutes. I love this game. Too bad I don't have an X-Box. Guess I'm just gonna have to wait for "Here Comes The Pain" to come out in the near future.

The not being able to pin thing is all about your voltage meter...sometimes doing a special steals your juice....You have to have high spirit and your opponent has to have none at all.

But making them tap out or giving them a chair to hit you with is easiest way to win.

The computer AI is Retarded though...Horribly retarded.

Me and Nate was playing it last nite and he was the champ and went to take a chair and hit Shawn Micheals and when he did he was dis. we thought he keep the belt, but nope. We pit the contols down and walk away, to many things that do not make sence.

LoL or how bout the people you feud with attacking your opponent during inteference.
The fact is the matches are improved 250% over raw 1(i'm not sure how good that is), so just stick to multiplayer matches. Getting your belt stolen is now where near annoying as your computer opponent running circles around a table you're standing on...."which way did he go..which way did he go".

That's actually a side-effect of a bigger problem in the game. Sometimes the guy who won the match doesn't actually get the belt. If people start interfering in the match (a couple minutes in, you can have up to four people jump in within 30 seconds) any one of them can end up with the belt regardless of who wins.

There's also a bug where the computer will keep pinning you after each kick-out without giving you a chance to get up, so you keep pounding the buttons until your fingers bleed and you just give up.

It CAN be a fun game, but there's enough basic problems with it that keep it from being as fun as Smackdown. The custom soundtrack option for enterance music is seriously what keeps me playing (Nothing beats hearing "Wwwwhhhaaaaatttaaarrrruuusshhhh when your guy comes out, or else Demolition's theme) although having to edit your wrestler's appearance twice has made me give up on more than a few CAW that I was working on.

I don't see this as a bug, more like just cheesy tactics. I actually used this on the computer once, and it seemed to work.

After you create (and save) Appearance 1, go back to the main menu. Select "create a superstar," "copy," select your guy, appearance 1, copy to appearance 2, and there you go. You can then edit App 2 if you want any changes for the backstage stuff.
