Well, it looks to me like JR and Lawler are going to lose the big match on Sunday, which means that (at least temporarily) Al Snow and Coach are going to be the `A' announce team. I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Part of me thinks the change will be good for everyone involved. For Snow and Coach, they may get some much-needed screaming in their ear by Vince and learn how to call matches better. For JR and Lawler, it may be a chance for them to polish their material and have fans want to hear them announce again. For WWE, they may get a small but immeasurable ratings boost from people turning in to see how the new announcing crew handles things (though I doubt it).

On the other hand, Snow and Coach don't seem to be able to get across angles and wrestlers, which is what someone in that role really needs to do. If all they're going to do is parody the existing announce team, then that will get old after about 10 minutes (see also: Oklahoma, WCW, 2000).

Announcing, to me, is an important part of the program and I think it's one basic aspect that RAW has to do right. Screw it up, and it's going to make even more fans tune out over the long haul. My ideal team would be something like the Jim Ross/Paul Heyman combo from the Invasion era; two very strong announcers on opposite sides, where you really wondered if these guys didn't legitimately hate each other.

Just wondering what everyone else thought of this...

I'm still not sold on Coach/Snow yet. I think they're okay for Heat, but not sure if they're ready for primetime. However, Raw could use a shakeup all around so maybe this would be a good thing. I just hope Austin doesn't take the Bischoff role here and start throwing Coach/Snow into angles and matches.

Not sure what they would do with Lawler if he's not on commentary. Does he actually have an off-air position in the company?

I don't like the prospect of Snow and Coach being the RAW announce team. But part of me says that's not really the issue. I can see Snow and Coach winning on Sunday, but I can't see them as the permanent announce team - that this is just all part of some bigger angle.

Who's actually going to call that match anyway?

I whole heartedly agree that the announce team is a huge part of any televised wrestling show... To give you an idea of what I mean, all I could think about during the whole Kane/Shane testicle torture thing was how terrible Lawler has allowed himself to become. Imagine, even as crazy as that spot was, if Lawler would've been playing his role of a heel and defending Kane's actions? Not agreeing with what he was doing, but saying something like "Shane had something like this coming after throwing Kane in a fire last week."

Not only would it have validated the angle more, but also it would've brought some drama to it. Instead he sat there and said almost nothing, and what he did say was playing it off like he was concerned for Shane... NEWSFLASH TO LAWLER, we all know it's a show, we know his "boys" didn't really get electrocuted, so why not side witht the bad guy?

A team of Paul Heyman and just about anybody would be great, as Heyman has something that almost every announcer on TV is missing right now, which is a passion for everything that happens on the show. Paul Heyman and Jim Ross's announcing from Wrestlemania 17 is about as good as it gets.

Oh well, I really long for the days of Vince McMahon, Gorilla Monsoon, Bobby Heenan, Jesse Ventura... any of these announcers were head and shoulders above anything I hear on TV today...

As far as Snow/Coach goes? I'd like to see what they've got when they really are handed the ball... It's easy to say "They don't put over storylines well" on Heat, there aren't any to put over.

Oh well, guess we'll probably see what they can do next Monday...

I'm beginning to wonder if as they look at the prospects of either status quo or a heel/heel announce team, if perhaps you won't see an odd ending to the PPV match. Imagine a double pin, with JR falling on top of Coach, and Snow falling on top of Lawler, or something to that effect, so you get a mix and match team. Either Coach and Lawler, Coach and Ross, or JR and Snow.

Easy solution: Stick Coach onto the JR/Lawler team as the uber-heel third announcer. It'd freshen things up and give the show a whole different dichotomy to SmackDown.

Bischoff has the announcing desk pulled back, and after Unforgiven he will have the announcers that he wants.

Could "Monday Night Nitro" be far behind ???

Yeah yeah yeah.....I can at least dream can't I.

How many years do you think it will take before people stop calling for this?

I'm all for letting Coach and Al call Raw, at least for a little while. Raw desperately needs a shake-up, and I think these two can do it. Al Snow is a decent announcer and Coach has been much more tolerable now that he's playing a heel instead of the old goofy "ain't this cool" routine that just smacked of B-show. If nothing else, JR and the King are trading on reputation at this point, so what have they got to lose? The number of times JR has been off Raw this year have produced no noticeable change in the ratings, and that just confirms to me that no one watches the show because of the commentators.

Let's remember that Michael Cole and Tazz were, at one point, a pretty bad announce team...now I'd say they're the best in the business. Give Al and Coach a chance and see what happens.
