Whoa.....so with thesmarks gone, we start inheriting their trolls? That explains a bit.

Couldn't'a happened to a nicer site, by the way. ;-)

I will say this:
I like reading his old ppv rants after watching an old video. Often times, I laugh at how out of touch he is with the wrestling fan that cares about the story/being amused with a match rather than the technical merits (although, really, Eddie/Ultimo from Slamboree 98 merited A LOT more stars than just 3, bastard...).
In either case, he's just an ass who probably is more amused that people take him seriously enough to post about how obnoxious he is than he is by actually writing wrestling reviews.

I'm really disappointed Flea is gone. I'm certainly going to miss the level-headed optimism he's displayed over the past few months when most every one else was freaking out about what was going on booking-wise. He had some really good opinions, and I agreed with quite a few of them.

We've had some neat coversations on AOLIM, and he seems like a really good person. Plus, he digs Rico. He'll be missed.

Just as long as CRZ doesn't get any ideas on abandoning us, it'll all work out :-)

Well, I know CRZ wouldn't want everyone to sit around gloating about another website buying the farm.

Oh, wait! There he is at the top of the page! Never mind.

FWIW, I can certainly understand why the guy gave up on his site. I think everything should thank CRZ. In all the time he's had the [/slash] up, he hasn't begged us for money once.

Hey CRZ,

I don't know if this came up on another of your forums but Scott KEITH brought your name up in this weeks "RAW" report. I also saw that he is moving his site to 411.

From Kieth's RAW report:

    - Rob Van Dam v. Undertaker. Undertaker must win here to be the #1 contender after Backlash, but RVD has no stake in this match. Taker pounds him down to start as JR points out that theres another #1 contender match later tonight. So which match is for the #1 contendership this one or that one? Or do they meet or what? Taker knocks RVD down for two. Note to JR: Dont ever use dissed in a serious discussion about wrestling. Rob fights back but gets caught with a sideslam for two. More stomping. Undertaker walks around for about 5 minutes between elbows as RVD lays on the apron selling it. Legdrop misses and Rob gets a quebrada from the apron and fights back, but Taker shrugs him off. He runs into the post by accident, and back in they go. Rob blocks a spinkick badly and gets Rolling Thunder, but gets crotched when he goes to the top. Superplex gets two for Taker. Elbowdrop gets two. Taker grabs a chair, but gets it kicked back in his face and Rob goes up with the frog splash, but stops to take out Eddie Guerrero on the floor and gets chokeslammed for two. Last Ride is escaped and Rob goes up again with a missile dropkick and frog splash, but Eddie Guerrero nails him with the belt and Taker gets two. Thought that was it. Last Ride finishes at 9:00. Undertaker looked god-awful and the screwjob (#3 in a series tonight) didnt help matters much. It was pretty watchable by the end, though, despite itself. **

And that's about the NICEST thing he had to say about the whole show.

CRZ must be *thrilled* to not only be mentioned in the same SK rant as Blackman, but in the same paragraph...

From SKRANT...

    - Meanwhile, Spike celebrates with the other jobbers as Slurpees are plugged. Put Steve Blackman there and its like CRZs dream segment.

I would like to note that during the Hogan return buildup, Scott Keith kept refuting that "McMahon made Hogan". He kept smirking and giving the credit to Verne Gagne. Um, why do you think Hogan left the AWA? Verne wouldn't put him over--ever. He put over Otto Wanz for christ sakes, but not Hogan. Oh and Verne gave himself another title run at about 55-60 (and people complain about Hogan hanging around to long), but Hogan wasn't ready. Hogan split and with the exedus of Ventura, the Road Warriors and Henning shortly after, the AWA was finished and headed out of the Chicago Ampitheater and into the Hammond Civic Center (AWA promoter Bob Luce: "All roads lead to Hammond!"). Revisionist history at its finest.

How come Scott Keith couldn't figure out the stipulations of the UT/RVD match? I fast forwarded through most of the interview segments on RAW, and I was able to figure out what was going on.

BockwinkelFan:

I agree totally. And nice choice of hero worship, by the way.

The only foresight Verne Gagne showed with Hulk Hogan was putting him in the main event against Nick Bockwinkel for the title. But he should have taken the extra step and put the belt on Hogan at least once... ESPECIALLY since he put the strap on himself after he was borderline elderly.

In Hogan's AWA run, he showed unbelievable charisma, flashed a million dollar smile, and showed a ton of star potential. Only a fool would have kept him from the main event... and given his alternatives, Gagne was extremely foolish not to have made Hogan his franchise when he had the chance. As many people have said over the years, Verne's outdated booking was his downfall.

Think what you will of Hogan, but at that stage of his career, he seemed to have it all. The fact of the matter is, Gagne had every opportunity to capitalize and didn't.

I'm not too clued up on my pre 1985 stuff, but didn't Verne Gagne refuse to put the title on Hogan because of the ammount of time Hogan was spending in Japan? He was there for about 20 weeks a year, and Gagne believed he couldn't do anything with a champ that was on tour for nearly half the year.

Actually it was becaused Hogan was a brawler and the AWA was a promotion based on mat wrestling, Hogan didn't fit the mold of what Gagne felt the AWA Champion should be.

Yes, boy... Crusher, Dick The Bruiser, Mad Dog Vachon, Crusher Blackwell, Stan Hansen... they were Mat Technicians

Blackwell was never AWA World champions.

Stan Hansen, Dick the Bruiser and Mad Dog Vachon both had more "wrestling-oriented" backgrounds than the cartoonish over-the-top Hogan did.

Hansen also didn't win the title until 1985, a good while after Hogan left, and history proved putting the AWA title on him was a colossally stupid thing to do.

Bruiser's reign lasted all of one week in 1966, and Crusher's reign in 1963 wasn't much longer - just under one month.

Mad Dog Vachon was a very over heel and a good foil for the faces of the time, and again, had a decent wrestling background. He was a WRESTLING heel, not a sports entertainment type like Hogan was.
