Anyways, anybody interested any a Wienerville bracket group on Yahoo!? I'll set one up if I you guys want. Or someone else can, either way, I think it'd be fun

| #42 Posted on 5.3.02 1431.33 Reposted on: 5.3.09 1443.33 | Did Gottfried really do an "awesome" job at MSU? (I'm a Racer alumnus (twice) and part-time faculty member who lives 45 minutes from Murray.)
I think Gottfried did a GOOD to VERY GOOD job at Murray, but I seem to remember him inheriting a loaded team from Scott Edgar (who had just left for Duquesne, or however the hell it is spelled), but the Racers sort of just seemed to come up short in big games. Granted, this was early in his coaching career, but the program itself really changed in less than totally positive ways (on and off-court) while he was in charge. But, I'm an alumnus, so GO RACERS!
I was also interested to see the big loss 'Bama had to Ole Miss last Sunday. I can't even fathom how a team that needed to finish strong (or at least non-weakly) to ensure a #1 seed in the big dance loses by 20+ in the last game of the season. It doesn't surprise me that Gottfried was Coach of the Year; generally when a team not based in Lexington wins the SEC its coach wins COTY honors.
As for Bogans....... I've said it before, I'll continue to say it.... reminds me of Roderick Rhodes (except Rhodes hit free throws). Highly touted freshman, solid play as a freshman and sophomore, weak junior year where nothing works out the way it should. Rumors of major personal problems are abounding for Bogans as well. (Grapevine information is incredible, I know a couple of different people with kids (or siblings) at UK and none of the reports are glowing.) | chuckc14

Same thing with poor little Saul Smith...He used to KILL Vandy. I thought he was a much better player than anyone ever gave him credit for. Kentucky is a TOUGH program to play for, I can only imagine...but usually the rewards (SEC and national championships) are usually great.
Keith, I'd definitely be interested in a little March "Wienerville" Madness... | mskj

Howsabout that Western KY game last night?? They're a good team that can make the Sweet 16 with a good draw I think.
Too bad the 'Ville plays this afternoon. I can't pick up any AM radio in my office so I'll have to pass by the employee dining room a few times to check out the tv.
At least the Cats took care of bizness and they're on Friday night so I don't have to miss anything, and I can't wait to take the long weekend next weekend to watch games all day Thurs & Fri in addition to Sat & Sun.
That's too bad that Bogans is having some off the court problems, but yes, he is starting to remind me of Roderick Rhodes too.

| #47 Posted on 7.3.02 1821.45 Reposted on: 7.3.09 1827.43 | Wow, nothing like spotting a thread 2 weeks after it starts... I've got a lot to hit, so I'll try and be quick about it.
First off, someone mentioned Gonzaga getting to the Final Four. As much as I would love that, I don't see that happening, simply because all they've done is surprise people in the tourney in years past; this year, people are expecting them to do something. I had a snazzy name to go with that, but I don't remember what it was.
Drew, I agree with you - watch out for Western KY, I believe - better than you think. Same goes for Pepperdine; I see them pulling a first-round upset.
Speaking on Kentucky for a little bit (since everyone else already has), I'm personally not sold on them. They'll play, probably, but I don't see them flying long in the tourney. If they show effort, then it might be a little different.
Up until Duke's blowing it at Virginia, I believed they were the best team in the nation - and I still say they're better than Maryland, simply because of experience.
I think I might as well weigh in as a Memphis fan. Figure I'd get the word out to Kentucky fans that are worrying about the Final Four that we're still worrying about whether we'll get a bid or not; most people think it's likely, I'm personally not sure... we need to win at least once in the C-USA Tourney to be pretty much solidified. Stupid "quality wins".... Also, we did lose half of our games without our best player, Kelly Wise. Dajuan Wagner, I know, but he's still a frosh. He can't do it all.
This just in: Memphis blows it again, loses to Houston. 12 seed, here we come. *grumbles* Maybe we'll get lucky and end up with a 10. | SerWolfe

i dont know though... with williams leading duke... they may still be the best in the nation. | Ffej

| #49 Posted on 8.3.02 0625.39 Reposted on: 8.3.09 0629.01 | The Hilltoppers are looking nice. They will win their first round, it depends on who they play if they win the second round game. They are certainly capable of big things, they have one of the, if not the, best big man in country. Go Western!
As for the Bogans/Rhodes comparison, thats kinda what I think. BUT Rhodes was actually a good guy off the court, just a butt on the court. As matter of fact Rhodes still lives in Lexington and his wife is a loan officer at CentralBank. They bought a home there last year. So even though UK fans hated him, he loved Lexington. Its a shame too because Rhodes was so damn talented. He even showed some flashes of talent in the NBA when he played in Houston and he made USC a better team when he was down there. For more Rodrick Rhodes fun check out: http://www.ukfans.net/jps/uk/rhodes.html Keep in mind this was written 3 years ago.
As for Missouri going to the final four, no. Not yet and not if Kansas has anything to say about. Missouri would have to be placed in a week bracket with a #1 seed that is not Duke, Kansas, or Maryland to have a shot. Personally I think Oklahoma is a lot more talented than Missouri as far as the Big 12 goes. But I have been wrong before.
Is Kentucky going to the final four? No. Team Turmoil (as they are known now in the Bluegrass) has "No chance in hell." I will be shocked if they make it to the Sweet Sixteen. But you can never, EEEEver count the Cats out. They always turn it up come tournament time. Hey they have been in 3 of the last 6 Championship games so who knows. But I don't think they have a chance this year. | DrewDewce

| #50 Posted on 8.3.02 0745.09 Reposted on: 8.3.09 0759.02 | I liked Rhodes, and admired his heart for sticking to his guns after what a lot of UK fans did to his confidence, and was very glad to see him achieve his dream of playing in the NBA. Hopefully he and his wife are doing well.
I haven't seen much of Mizzou this year, but will be watching the conference tourneys a lot over the next few days to cobble together my bad picks for my NCAA brackets. I think Memphis is out after losing to Houston twice in the last week or so. That's what makes selection Sunday so much fun tho.
I also think the Cats will have a very tough time getting to the Sweet 16 and might not, depending on their draw. I love this time of year and can't wait until next Thursday when I park myself in the big recliner for the next couple of days.
After all that hoopla is over, it's time to start thinking about DERBY!!!!! GIDDDYUP

Ahhh, mint julips, druken kids in the infield, and the smell of horse crap. I love spring in Kentucky! I went to the Derby in '94 and '98 and I had a great time, so good in '98 that I don't remember the actual race. I would like to go back now that I have sowed my Derby oats and actually sit in the stands and bet on the race.
If any of you Wieners have never been to KY Derby you have to go and hang in the infield, its a bigger party than a NASCAR race and with much less rednecks. | DrewDewce

Since '96, we've gotten dressed up and gotten seats in the grandstand. We're in Section 128 (right where the horses take off, so we get to see them twice for the actual Derby). You won't be able to miss us since at the start of the day, we're spread out, but by the end, nobody wants to sit near a group of 30-45 people who rode out there together on a bus and have been drinking since THURSDAY!!!
I've also got seats in the grandstand for the Oaks, but will once again be in the infield untill the actual running of that race.
Plus, you can usually get more stuff in thru the gates that aren't used by the infield crowd ;-)
But I've got March Madness right now. Derby Fever usually sets in right after. Best time to be in KY is from mid-March to mid-May. Weather is great, all kinds of stuff going on, then it calms down for the rest of the year, unless we get the Breeder's Cup or the PGA.

I got lost from my group and had to take the bus back to Freedom Hall to wait at the car for everybody else. They were surprised to find me (I think). Now I'm all married and settled down and stuff, so if I go again it will be the grand stand. I can't imagine being with my wife in an area where young, firm ladies are flashing their breasts and not getting a concussion.
