Not really bashing, but "other-site related" ...

What's the general consensus about providing match times when Adbreak interferes? It seems reasonable to include the commercial time for Raw matches, since they carry on in realtime for the live audience. For the taped shows, that's more problematic.

The experts say ...???

I eventually ended up timing each segment and put the time in as a sum of the separate times. (2:53 + 6:03 + 4:04)

Of course, it should be understood that even a single bell-to-bell time provided could be a few edits here and there shorter than the "live" match that happened during the taping.

That's a darn good question, I do always wonder how cappers calculated. I guess now I know CRZ's way.

Next time Smackdown comes to my area, I really should get the stop watch going on a match that I suspect will go double segments and see how it compares to television time.

Going by the principle of "it doens't really happen if we don't see it", I just count up the time that's shown, though I try to denote how much happened before the break when I remember to.

Some of the Nitro stuff is occassionally broken up... I KNOW it was live, but whomever taped the shows edited out the commercials (a practice I later employed myself once I began taping).

So I just count what I see.... If we see 17:54 of a match and there was a commercial break, I can only list it at 17:54.

For that reason alone, I don't like adbreaks. It throws off the groove. (Don't throw off the Emperor's Groove....THE GROOVE!)

Ad breaks suck-and having both Rey Rey Vs. Tajiri AND Taker/Angle interrupted on SmackDown was ridiculous. But on the odd ocasions I've recapped something with ads, I'd write it as "(time) aired".

I guess I'd prefer adbreaks than shorter matches. But it'd just be nice if they could go 15-20 minutes with stopping for advertising.

They put the breaks in the middle of matches in order to keep you hooked through the ads and to keep you watching for the rest of the program. If they put the ad breaks after the match, you might just turn off the tv after Rey/Tajiri and go for a walk. The way they have it set up, you stick around to see the end of the match, and maybe get hooked by the next segment, and wind up watching the whole show, even if you really only wanted to see one match.

Four out of four recappers agree! (That's better consensus than dentists manage.) "What we see is what we count" it is then.

Thanks, guys!
