Originally posted by me I'm going to say HHH for one simple reason. The more logical the rationale for taking the belt off him, the more squashtastic his victories are...Thus with this logic, the fact that Goldberg is an unstoppable monster, everyone in the match except Orton hates him, Orton is a slimy weasel who would backstab him in a minute, he has a groin injury that should put him on the shelf for a while, and his 14 month reign as champion (with one hiccup) has been boredom-inducing beyond comprehension. With that in mind I expect him to pedigree Goldberg after Orton and Flair sneak back into the cell. This will of course lead to us being told the next day how this is "building up for something better, like Goldberg beating HHH 1-on-1 when he's healthy." and most likely nothing better will ever happen.
I admit to missing the scenario leading to the finish, but I think I was on the right track. It was so fun looking back at that thread and all the people who were so darn certain that this time HHH was sure to lose. And I of course now await the usual apologists to come forward and say what sort of glorious victory for the side of good this is all leading towards, knowing they will again be proven wrong as ever. Keep your chins up you optimists, we need you in these dark times :) Promote this thread! | | darkmatcher

I just didn't want Goldberg to win, and he didn't. So I was happy with the way the match ended! If only he had taken a Pedigree, just so I could hear the joy sucked out of the arena.
I bet Triple H will hold the title until Wrestlemania.
The backstage segments with Evolution leading up to this match were excellent, too. Triple H, Orton, and Flair complement each other very nicely.

| #12 Posted on 24.8.03 2331.27 Reposted on: 24.8.10 2332.20 | Personally, I think was the right move, after about an hour or so of reflection on it. They made Goldberg look better than he has during his WWE tenure (and really, a good chunk of WCW) and stopped just short of giving the fans what they want. If HHH and Goldberg fight at Unforgiven, that ending guaranteed a great start to their feud that wasn't there before. If done correctly, it could be the best build-up for a match since Y2J-Michaels, in my opinion.
Of course, who the hell am I kidding, cause Unforgiven will still end with someone in a pedigree, clean pinfall. But its nice to dream every once in a while. | oldschoolhero

Will they have to hire Sting because of their strict "Do not elevate the midcard" policy, or do we start the circle over again. I believe it's RVD's turn to "main-event" again.
The crowd going nuts is a reason to push somebody to the title? Tell that to Booker and RVD.

I will be coming back in a couple of weeks for an apology from you for besmirching my sanity, because I have a hunch that the crowd reaction won't mean shit if VKM doesn't want that to happen. Or perhaps I didn't hear how insane the crowds were for RVD when he came in, or for Booker leading into WM. Only one opinion matters in the end, and he seems to be something of a HHH mark. | oldschoolhero

| #16 Posted on 24.8.03 2354.21 Reposted on: 24.8.10 2356.48 | Vince McMahon isn't paying Booker and RVD $3million for two years' work. And I hate to say it, but neither Booker nor van Dam would have garnered the reaction that Goldberg did had they been subject to the same build-up. And look at the booking of the Chamber: Berg plows through EVERYONE like they're minor annoyances, beats the snot out of Hunter and only goes down after a direct weapon shot. THEN, after that, they cuff him and beat the piss outta him, and he's STILL conscious and seething at the end. The whole thing screamed "Massive Face Comeback" in a way that none of the previously-booked HHH feuds have, and made Goldberg look huge. And besides, if Hunter was intent on riding Hunter back down the card, they wouldn't have bothered with the post-match beatdown-that would've been it for title aspirations.
Much like the naysayers about the Brock/UT double-DQ finish at Unforgiven, I'm going to stick my neck out and lay it across the choppng block. one way or another, Berg's walking out the champ at Unforgiven. And this is coming frm a guy who doesn't actually LIKE him all that much.

In the mid nineties when there was a perceived lack of depth SCSA stood up, in 2000 when there were injuries HHH stood up. Maybe the back office are waiting for one of these main event'ers to stand up to warrant taking the title of HHH and not fall back into the trap of hotshotting it. For mine, the only main eventer who seems to be putting his hand up is Y2J, but maybe they are worried about his size? They made him into a lapdog for WMX8.

I'd love to see it turn out that way, but I don't see it happening with the current state of affairs. Conspiracy theories, speculation on who has what kind of power, and raw markish-disguised-as-smart hatred aside, someone in charge of Raw's creative/booking team has a serious hard-on for keeping HHH in the "franchise player" position in spite of injuries, overexposure, and character stagnation. The opportunity to change things up has come up several times but each time they've let it drop in favor of keeping The Game in the Ric Flair position (sometimes it was the right decision, IMO, but still.)
I hope you're right. I've never been a HHHater or whatever term's in vogue right now, but the guy's just not particularly entertaining any more. Give him a vacation, send him and Steph on a honeymoon/publicity tour, write him a script for Thunder In Paradise:Nights, whatever... | fuelinjected
