| #1 Posted on 24.8.03 2059.26 Reposted on: 24.8.10 2101.04 | I believe this week what I(and many others) consider one of the greatest fighting games ever, Soul Calibur II makes it's way to our consoles. What I'm curious about to those who plan to buy the game on the boards, which version?
Myself, I'm debating between X-box or Gamecube(I'm fortunate enough to own all three systems.) I'vep layed the Gamecube demo, and man the controller is horrid for it. I mean I could go out and get a third party peripheral but I don't have too much money. Yet it has Link.
X-box version has Spawn. Not nearly as well fit into the game as Link I hear but still something good. Plus I hear the controller(Model S) is 2nd best compared to the PS2 controller. Plus it's the highest quality in graphics.
Also, I'm not getting the PS2 version because it's buggy, long load times, and not as graphically impressive as the other two versions. Promote this thread! | | vsp

* Neither myself nor anyone I know personally owns an Xbox.
* The Cube version has Link in it. Yeah, he's got a sword, so he "fits the theme" better. He also looks like an overgrown Keebler elf. (For my money, the "extra" characters in ALL THREE versions are silly fan-service, so this isn't a "Heihachi r00lz Link dr00lz" post, either.)
* The PS2's load times and graphics will be good enough for me. | Bizzle Izzle

Ah, way to rain on my parade
I've had my copy reserved for a couple weeks now since PS2 is the only console I own. I am super psyched up to get this. | vsp

If you have a PS2 and you buy SC2, you'll have a damn fine fighting game. If it looks great on your system, does it matter if the graphics are great (or look a little better) on other systems?

What if you have all three consoles and are looking for the best combination of graphics and control? I don't care that much for the throw in characters. I'd assume XBOX, but I'm not sure... | Kei Posiskunk

Which brings up a question. Does it bother anyone else that every single solitary bit of television advertisement that this game has been getting centers ENTIRELY around Link and is being being hyped to WCW-esque levels as "Link's greatest challenge"? Heihachi only really matters to Tekken fans (and they've already ported a Tekken character to SC in Yoshimitsu, so he's really nothing special) and Spawn's not the pop culture icon he used to be... Link's got a ton of history, and this is a big departure for an in-house Nintendo character. | Pike

Also my female friends would rather see Link than Grandad Tekken! Link fits into the game better and doesn't seem like an add-on, more of an actual part of the game that you would miss if it suddenly wasn't there. | vsp

Namco's lineup isn't exactly loaded down with alternative weapon-wielders, unless you go back to the real old days (Dragon Buster, Tower of Druaga, Legend of Valkyrie, Return of Ishtar). The guy from Splatterhouse wielded a mean 2x4. Mr. Driller has a weapon, per se...
From the Tekken crowd, it could've been worse. Gon or Dr. Boskonovitch, anyone?
Link "fits" about as well as the above examples -- he's from a very different genre, but has a sword. That's about it.

In most cases I would get Gamecube to play as Link but the controller...gah it sucks for SCII. Spawn I hear is a fairl compotent character, even if he is not as "cool" as Link.
And I didn't grow up on Link sadly..grew up on Mario. | EddieBurkett

Nuby is producing a controller specifically for Soul Calibur 2 which will plug into any of the three consoles. It will retail for $40 and be available at the end of the month.
Edit: I found what I was looking for.

Anyone who complains about how Heihachi has no weapon (and thus no range) needs to look at Taki, who's been there from the beginning and wields what appears to be a sharpened butter knife. | DarkRenegade

It's chock full of pretty pictures of the characters and their weapons and various fighting locations. Also, don't forget the Limited Edition Fighter's Guide that has a 28 track CD soundtrack and poster.
I'm not sure if the Gamestop family stores (Software, Etc., Babbages, etc.) gives out the Art Book, but you won't be gettin that at your Aunt's Walmart.
Now I gotta go play... |
