Is he an awesome pitcher or what? he takes out Giles, pitches a few more times, then goes on the DL, then comes back and wins 4 straight with an era lower that the number of times Barry Bonds has been nice. The Cubs better pony up a LOT of money and keep this kid in town a lot of days. Now that Sammy has taken a week off, it's time for him to crank, get Alou and Simom rolling and Ramirez and the rest on the way to the Division.

God, I am defintely setting myself up for a big fall. I haven't been this excited in August since '84. When they choke, I may have to toss a brick through the TV. If they don't, I am putting the credit to Steve Stone coming back as Color man. I still enjoy him more than anyone except Vin Scully on my TV. If Harry's Grandson would just drink, for goodness' sake, it would be awesome!

We all know how pitchers that pitch a lot at a young age can turn out in the modern age(That didn't stop Walter Johnson from going 25-13, 1.36 ERA in 370IP at age 22 after throwing over 600 Major league innings before that from being OK, but I digress)....

Mark Prior will probably be the greatest pitcher of his generation given the facts we know today.

It's now late August. Both Chicago baseball teams are tied for first basically (Cubs 1/2 game out). This is setting up for possibly the greatest 2 months in Chicago baseball history. If both teams somehow made the playoffs, the entire city will shut down and there will be blood in the bars as Sox and Cubs fans go at it.

Damn!! That sounds like so much FUN! I need to move back NOW!. Maybe I can find a Sox fan here to cut. I know one thing: My Daughter, miss Soccer is the only game, knows more about the Cubs than I do right now.

well according to that one pitching expert dude his mechanics are already up there with Ryan/Clemens/Moos/Unit etc., and he seems to have the mental aspect as well.

I would only worry that he's using up that arm without getting a better effort from the offense and bullpen, of course, there are tons of young pitchers also stuck in that rut as well...

This is the most depressing thread ever. Hope for Prior, feelings that the season could be choked away... We had no idea. We had no idea that the Cubs' psyche was so fragile that because of an apparent botched play we'd lose in the most heartbreaking way possible. This is going to get more and more painful as we head to October. Ugh.

Prior is carrying the team as the ace right now. He and Zambrano are chewing up innings and keeping that team in the race. Kerry Wood has not stepped up like the ace he should be (could have been?). Clement is streaky, and Estes just plain sucks. I don't know if the Cubs have enough for the last few weeks, but it should be exciting. At least they have Prior and Zambrano twice every 5 days.
