I didnt use any AI slider either. The difficulty jumps from time to time, but the game is still awesome. The Owner Mode is that damn good. Lots of improvements from 2003. | Pike

David Boston(WR) Seneca Wallace(QB) Rookie Quentin Jammer(CB) Marcus Trufant(CB) Rookie Roy Williams(FS) Takeo Spikes(ROLB)
And I still have two 1st round picks and a 5th rounder left.
I passed up on Champ Bailey as I felt I was already deep enough at CB with young talent and I'd like to just see if they get better. I also skipped on Urlacher, as I've been practicing with Carolina and they're pretty damn good in the 4-3, even though I prefer the 3-4.
So in comparison: Madden 2003 let me load the Cardinals up with Donovan McNabb, Hines Ward, Chris Chambers, Roy Williams, Brian Urlacher, Ricky Williams, Kendrell Bell, Roosevelt Colvin, Tommy Polley, Champ Bailey, Rhonde Barber, Mike Brown, and still let me grab about 5 first round picks.
This year you're not going to get McNabb or Ricky Williams. And for guys like Urlacher and Bailey, the fact that teams will no longer just dump their 6th and 7th picks makes it much harder to collect the needed number of 1st rounders to take a bunch of the A+ stars.
-Jag
As a side note while I realize that by making it so the compuer no longer just dumps the 6th and 7th rounders that EA has stopped me from creating my uber teams but in one instance it really annoyed me. I was about to give up two first rounders and a second rounder for Roy Williams (a 90 overal second year FS). Except the Cowboys didn't have room to take the three new draft picks. If you were willing to jettison Williams for the three picks, why the hell would you hang on to your 6th and 7th rounders?! The computer should've been happy to give 'em to me to make room. | dskillz

I have the same problem with Madden. I found that the NFL 2k series by Sega was a lot easier to pick up and start with. I've played 2k, 2k2, and 2k3 and they are all pretty good for the amount of Football that I want to play.
I hear that Blitz is pretty good too, but it seems even faster than Madden. I'm not so sure that I want to play twitch football. | Jaguar

They made the field smaller and the players bigger, and then made it so that all you had to do to intercept the ball would be to stand somewhere near the pass and press the jump button. Then you would jump 40 feet into the air and grab the pass.
Hooray for stupidity.
Hopefully the new Blitz Pro will be better. But it's definately an arcade game, not sim like at all.

As for Madden, yeah the picks and fumbles have been turned way up this year as they made the defensive AI smarter. In 2003 I threw about 10 interceptions total per season. This year I've thrown 29 (using Seneca Wallace though, so it's not like he's aiming the ball or anything). My suggestion is to try out the 'Football 101' mode. It helped my game a bunch when I started playing Madden 2003, as it allows me to see what the hell I'm supposed to be doing on these plays.
My other suggestion would be to get a scrambling QB, set your audibles up so you can switch pass/run in your favorite formations and run your offense from the line of scrimmage. Also, you can't throw to a covered WR anymore, not even in single coverage. Wait for your WR to get the CB off his back, or throw it away (or tuck and run if you can). | JALman

This looks like a job for me...the MADDEN MASTER!!!1
(cracks knuckles) ouch.
Franchise mode certainly turned things around for the Madden series, IMO. One of my favorite strategies upon entering franchise mode is to use draft picks to help trade for a better player. Generally, the game seems to make younger players more valuable than older players. Through the power of Madden 2000, I was on my way to the playoffs w/the Browns w/CHRIS MILLER~! (Hey, he was around 35 w/a 75 rating, with Tim Couch ready to be traded in a year or to with his 69 rating along with a $6 million contract and seemingly low potential.)
Actually, I liked the Dreamcast incarnations of the NFL 2k series. The play editor was superior, the playbooks were more realistically concise, and the passing game was a little easier. All in all, those games still couldn't beat Madden. | SomeRandomFag IV

I take it that the NCAA game uses just numbers to represent it's players. They can't use the names can they?

1) Make the game easier by lowering the CPU and boosting the Human sliders.
2) Make the game harder by lowering the Human and boosting the CPU sliders.
3) Make the game more realistic through adjustment of sliders and quarter length, hopefully coming out with game stats that closely mirror the NFL in real life.
As for my defence (which is always the most important thing for me to have), in 2003 I always played in the 3-4, but in 2004 I'm playing with Carolina who play in the 4-3 and they have a great 4 man Dline. So I stuck with that (even though I have enough good LBs to go 3-4 in my second season) and have gotten pretty good with it. Last night I blew out the Bears 54-3 on All Pro (no sliders). Rex Grossman threw 6 interceptions as his OLine just could not contain the Crash Left Blitz. I also sacked him 5 times, one of which lead to a fumble and another Defensive TD. On Defense I always control one of my blitzing linebackers. The game doesn't zoom out enough for me to accurately control a Db, so I only control the guys who are blitzing. If no one's blitzing then I just let the computer run the play.

I've been going with "Ask Madden" for defense. I'm still trying to find the "perfect" defense that I had in Madden 2001 and Madden 2002 (dime back blitz, led to 20+ sacks per game) Playing the Raiders on All-Pro with 6 minute quarters (with sliders) I'm 15-0. Phillip Buchanon has 9 punt returns for TDs and 16 picks (7 for TDs). Charles Woodson has 14 picks (2 for TDs). Charlie Garner is having a great year (1900 yards, 21 TDs). After 1 game with Gannon I relented and created a "perfect" QB, then to save cap room, I cut Mirer and Tuiasosopo, I traded Gannon for Couch and a draft pick to be my back-up, then I signed Jamie Martin as a free-agent.
The owner mode does rule, but I still can't get a sell-out, even though I've cut ticket prices and fan interest is maxed out. |
