I played one preseason game (as Minnesota), and got killed by Jacksonville. Then I absolutely blew out Green Bay in the season opener. I didn't really change anything, and it's not like I did anything to improve my learning curve. I love the Owner's mode though. | CajunMan

The bright spot so far is that I acquired Warren Sapp in exchange for Wendell Bryant and my first and second round draft picks in 2004. It seems to be paying dividends because I now have a decent pass rush.

I love Wendell Bryant. He high fived me one time at a Badgers Game as I was leaving the stadium.
Anywho, I picked up a few guys as the Vikings (Michael Westbrook and a Tackle whose name escapes me) and traded them to the Dolphins for Jamar Fletcher. I'm 5-1 right now, so I'm sitting fairly well. I lost to Atlanta and had to squeek bye Denver, but I'm sitting pretty well right now.
I like the Uniform Creator in theory (I love the Black and Purple look I gave the Vikings), but it still needs a lot of work. Not only do the logos not show up, but if you change one color, roughly half the things on the uniform change. If I want to make a stupid ass looking uniform with a billion colors on it, I should be able to. | Broncolanche

Perhaps, but I'm slowly trying to build them into a contender by trading for (and eventually signing via free agency) impact players instead of waiting for the rooks to develop. It'll take time, but it ought to get easier playing with them once I have some talent.

I beat the Lions too with some sound defensive play, 14-7. It would've been 14-0 if it weren't for an ill-advised throw to Emmitt Smith in the backfield that bounced off his back, thus becoming a live ball which was recovered for a touchdown.
Week 2 against Seattle was. . .well, a completely different story. I'm too embarassed to reveal the score. All I know is that I'll have to learn to play a new style of offense to score a lot of points for once. Any tips Shane (besides Run Emmitt Run)? | Super Shane Spear

| #14 Posted on 15.8.03 1231.37 Reposted on: 15.8.10 1232.20 | Firstly, you need to make Anquan Boldin at least the number three receiver. I don't think he's better than McAddley or even Bryant Johnson, but he is definately better than the automatic five slot that the depth chart puts him at. Make Kasper your Kick Return guy and 'Quan your punt returner.
I don't know you you focused your training camp skills on at QB, but don't forget that Blake will only be with you for two years, and then will probably retire. Focus your skills on McCown unless you are doing REALLY bad and will be drafting a QB next season.
I think the Cards are more square on defense then you might think. I don't know if you have messed with your defensive ends yet, but I've found that VandenBosch and rookie Calvin Pace on each side work for a average pass rush, which for the Cardinals, is something to do backflips over. Sapp is an improvement over Bryant, but only slightly, and it may have cost you the pass rusher that you could've drafted next year, because isn't Sapp only on a one year contract at this point?
Singing a free agent wouldn't hurt either. I'm in week 3 and Michael Westbrook is available, and although he might not make the top four in most squads, he comes in with the highest stats in the Cardinal receiving corps. I haven't signed him yet, but I may.
Finally, make your choice on what to do about Emmitt and Shipp. Shipp will no doubt have a better YPC average, but Emmitt is better at catching balls, west-coast style. What I did was to change up my substitutions, so that Shipp is running the Strong and Goal Line sets, while Emmitt runs the rest. You find that Shipp excels at getting you in from the six yard line, while it may take Emmitt two or three downs.

| #15 Posted on 15.8.03 1544.35 Reposted on: 15.8.10 1545.06 | Well I stupidly skipped the training camp portion of the franchise and went straight into the preseason, so I didn't get to improve either of the QBs' ratings. I did, however, do an auto-reorder of the depth charts, and as a result have been making good use out of Johnson and Boldin, though I can't remember whether or not I have Boldin at number three.
As far as the defensive line goes, I do in fact have VandenBosch and Pace at LDE and RDE respectively, and at least against Detroit the pass rush was kicking ass. VandenBosch was especially doing better than usual since he was lined up next to Sapp, but then again this was against the Lions. Speaking of Sapp, my current plan is to sign him to a longer deal at season's end. I'm really surprised Tampa accepted my trade, and unless I'm total fool for overall player ratings, I viewed Sapp as a big time upgrade over Bryant.
As far as FAs go, I did sign Randall Godfrey to take over MLB, and Westbrook might be a good idea.
I've been using Emmitt quite a bit for sling passes. In fact, he's my leading receiver. I'll heed your advice on using Shipp the way you do since I have had a few good runs with him. I guess my biggest problem is that I have a very vanilla offense--I just don't use enough varied plays and formations.

1. I love being able to play in Alternate uniforms. I'm playing the Chargers, so I'm alternating between classic 1960s jerseys and 1980s Air Coryell uniforms.
2. I love Owner mode. More than playing the game.
3. I don't like the trade engine. Sure, making trading harder is more like teh NFL. But it's less fun. I did trade Marceulls Wiley and a pick for Julius Peppers.
4. Passing seems a lot harder, in general. | Jaguar

I like the trading block, but I was thrilled that they left the 'Trade Player' option in there as well. Only later did I find out that they tinkered with the draft picks trading system. You can still trade a 1st rounder for a 1st, 4th, and 5th, but now none of the teams are willing to part with their 6th and 7th rounders, so I keep running up against the 10 pick limit.
Unless I figure out a way to keep the picks moving around, I'm only going to be able to grab Champ Bailey and Kendrell Bell

I don't enjoy it near as much as I do the superior NCAA 2004. The commentary absolutely sucks and it's too easy to intercept balls. However after learning to pass effectivly in Madden I'm now ripping up the computer in NCAA passing. It seems as if all my recivers are open compared to Madden. So I may have to get it cause NCAA is so easy now. |
