Another vote for Mike Chioda here.

No specific reason...except for the time during a PPV when a buddy heard his name wrong. We've been calling him "Ray Liotta" ever since.

Joey Marella, probably. He was the son of Gorilla Monsoon and he died in a car accident. (Am I correct on that?)

He had a great "I'm not going to take any shit from you" facial expression.

Heel Nick Patrick dominated!

The cut-off sleeves muscle tee ref jersey, spiked hair, evil goatee, diamond stud earring and the omni-present dangling smoke made him my favorite.

WOW's Josh Milton took some of the best bumps of 2001.

Mick Foley coming to the ring to referee a match with black stripes on his white shirt that looked like they were colored on by a sharpie always made me chuckle.......but after seeing Brian Hebner do his beat box thing, he immediately became my favorite.

My favorite refs, in order:

* Mark Curtis. I loved all his mannerisms, especially his quick, solid style of doing a three-count, and how after the pin, he LEAPT to his feet to call for the bell. Also, watch Luger v. Hogan - when Luger has Hogan in the rack and Hogan's submitting, Curtis actually DOUBLECHECKS Hogan because he's so shocked Hogan submitted, and looks happy to call for the bell (which he should be, since Hogan was nWo).

* Brian Hebner. He's showing a lot of promise these days, and let's face it, he can beatbox. What's not to love?

* Charles Robinson, for many of the same reasons I like Curtis. His sweeping three-count just looks good.

* Tim White, who's more than willing to bump into a cage to get a match over, or take a chairshot, or a Stunner, or a Rock Bottom, or..

* Joey Marella. He just looked like a referee - fair, but could get stern with the wrestlers if needed.

I don't think there's many referees I don't like, but I'm totally sick of Earl Hebner's slow-ass pinfall count, and how he ALWAYS has to get into it with the wrestlers. Referees should NEVER touch a wrestler unless it's absolutely necessary. If they shove you, don't shove back, DISQUALIFY THEM!

I'd say Brian Hebner 'cos he hasn't made any huge mistakes and he aided Spanky in humiliating Cena, all my friends like Cena so they were trying to find out Brian Hebner's address ,because they thought he was easier to blackmail than Spanky, to make him say (and I quote) "sorry because he hurt my (Samantha Honeyman's) feelings"!

And Earl because I didn't know people went that red without blowing up!

I can't believe that no one has mentioned "Dangerous" Danny Davis. He may have been the most hated man in the WWF at one time.

Back when a larger percentage of the audience believed that wrestling was a legitimate sporting competition (you can still find some of these people at WWE events to this day and I'm not talking about children either...and there's no one worse to sit next to), my mom would always tell me about the old ladies in the bathroom at the Providence Civic Center(Hogan vs. Jake Roberts in 1987...3rd grade for me) cursing about Danny Davis as if he had murdered one of their grandchildren. Yep, Danny Davis was a BAAAD man.

BTW: There were many heel-loving fans in the audience too. A third of the crowd was chanting DDT,DDT,DDT for Jake Roberts. I was there to see JYD get revenge on Harley Race, but JYD no-showed. I always wanted to be one of those kids that got in the ring and boogied down with JYD. I did get to see some of my favorites at the time though: Jake,Honky Tonk Man, and the Dream Team.

Anyhoo, I'll go with Dave Hebner and Joey Marella as favorite refs. They were the go-to-guys in the 80's.
