The odds are 42M to 1 against...that means I HAVE to buy four tickets! It's an even money bet!

$183 million.. I can start to dream, but I'd still have about $150 million left over after I've got anything anyone could ever want...aside from a professional sports franchise.

Let's see... odds of winning the 6/49 (if I remember my stats) is 1 in 13,983,816
Odd of winning this superball thing (assuming you don't have to match the numbers in order, which would be INSANE.
1 in 62,124,529.5
That seems strange. I would have thought it was harder to win the 6/49.
Anyway, the 6/49 has to be $14 million before it becomes a good bet (hahahahahahahaha) and the superball has to be $63 million if tickets cost $1.
BTW, Encore is a sucker bet, with odds at 1 in 1,000,000 and the biggest prize being $250,000. Man that lottery corporation sure knows how to work the odds in it's favour, don't it?
For those of you who don't know, I'm talking Ontario stuff here...

1. Ike, I don't know how you calculated 62M to 1, but I saw some math professor calculate 42M to 1, like Z said up there.
2. At least we still get a RAW recap on Tuesday.

Start by assuming you have your 5 (1-47) and 1 (1-27) numbers. The probability that the first of the five numbers picked is one of yours is 5/47. Multiply that by the chance that the next number picked is one of the remaining four (4/46) and keep going.
So the probability of the first five numbers matching is:
(5*4*3*2*1) / (47*46*45*44*43)
Add in the last "mega" number and the probability becomes
(5*4*3*2*1*1) / (47*46*45*44*43*27) = 1 / 62,124,529.5
Take the inverse to get the 1 in 62 million whatever odds.
My assumption here is that the last number is completely seperate from the rest of the draw, which may be where I'm making my mistake.
Did you see the math professor calculate it because you were in a math class, or did someone hire this guy to be on TV? | CRZ

(1 / 47C5)(1 / 27) = 1 / (47! / 5!42!)(1 /27 ) = 5!42! / 47! * 27 = 5 * 4 * 3 * 2 / 47 * 46 * 45 * 44 * 43 * 27 = 120 / 4969962360 = 1 / 41416353
Hmm, you and I match until you do the multiplication. I blame your fingers. ;-)

Lot of good it does you if you can't multiply.
And I saw the guy on TV, I didn't do it myself, like you and CRZ. (But I guess I could have if I wasn't so lazy.)
