The sports entertainment side...well, that's up to you. I thought it was good for the most part, and a lot of what I've seen I expected in a way. There were some who thought that maybe Sable and Steph could equal the miracle of Trish Stratus. That didn't happen, in my opinion. It came off a tad lazier than the Trish match when I think about it. But, fear not, they'll get it right in the rematch maybe... By the way, Sable carried Steph's ass.
The opener, tag match and main event were really good. I really dig Jamie Noble and Nidia, but it had to take something really stupid to make me root for Mr. Ass. That something is sleeping with the Smackdown Skank Torrie Wilson. And, as expected, Mr. Ass was ass backwards, and another Emmy caliber vignette awaits us on Thursday. Yay. I swear I saw a plastic pineapple in Noble's "love case". I'll get me some lenses later.
The bar brawl I won't comment on, except I still think it's a gross waste of Sean O' Haire (just seeing him lean on the bar with that look is so sexy), Matt Hardy (who hates barfights on PPV as much as I do), Spanky (looking fine and dancing too!), and others. Vince's bleeding was freakin' scary, and I usually think he's a crazy old man, but wow. I really hope it's not too serious. The show as a whole was definitely better than Bad Blood. | #2 Posted on 28.7.03 1238.31 Reposted on: 28.7.10 1244.30 | This was the first PPV we've bought since Wrestlemania. Yeah, bad finances are one reason we've foregone our monthly 34.95 addition to the cable bill, but bad cards had more to do with it--I mean, an all-Raw PPV? Good gravy. I knew that one was missable the moment I heard about it.
But we wouldn't miss Vengeance, and it was money well spent. The US title match--a great piece of wrestling that got me back into the flow of things all by itself. When I can sit there and think, "Now this is why I like to watch this stuff," after months of ho-hum on the whole biz, that's a good match. ;-) Almost half an hour! Way to go!
The tag match ruled. I hope that Hass and Benjamin can survive their awful new team name--please don't cram them down into the lower midcard. Rey is the Springboard King--does anyone invent moves as fast as he does? My eyes are opened and my universe changes every time he wrestles. Then it turns into a black hole of charisma when Kidman enters my screen...hey, didn't he get powerbombed?
The triple threat also entertained the hell out of me--I was afraid B.S. would weigh everything down, but it seems like they've figured out how to book the guy at long last. The finish I didn't expect in the least. I was positive Brock would keep the belt until Summerslam, and that Show would do the job. So much for that.
Vince vs. the one-legged wonder--well, the novelty of seeing that kid wrestle has worn off a tad, but it's still a sight to see. Much better booked that it might have been. That was the runniest blade job I've seen since Taker in the Hell in a Cell with Brock.
Speaking of Taker, since the boys are running at least 4-1 against him, I will say I disagree with the snarky smarks by about that proportion. Taker could have let Cena get in a little more offense--but not too much more. I liked this match much more than I liked the last match these two had, where Cena got very close to *zero* offense. One-sided is dull and embarrassing...and this match was not one-sided. Cena looked strong and determined, Taker looked vulnerable. Both Hubby and I were glued to the tube and nodded in satisfaction when it was over. It's a noticeable step up; if the intention is for Taker eventually to put Cena over in a big way, which I am almost certain it is, taking it slow is the way to go. That's how they accomplished it with Brock, which paid off big in the end.
No, I didn't like the DDQ either. But I marked huge for the Hell in the Cell, even though my heart bled for Taker. (I love the guy. I will never cavil at that.) That's the way to put a man over when you are a legend; bit by bit and believeably. Why imagine that time permanently stops with every stage of a feud? Sometimes it seems like certain wrestling commentators want every rivalry to end in one match with no buildup, no reversals of fortune, no storyline to speak of: just a throw of the dice. "OK, this guy is better than that one. Next!" There's this thing called the future, guys. It's fun to look forward to.
I used the toilet and fixed the slipcovers during Sable vs. Steph. What, are they going to try a last-ditch Albert push? A new T&A? Whatever. Bar brawl was mostly silly, though it had a few laughs--I still cannot get used to Blond Bradshaw. At least grow a beard again, John. I missed Buns vs. Noble while putting the kiddies to bed. But the important matches all surpassed expectations, sometimes by a long chalk, and I was highly satisfied overall with this PPV.
