| #1 Posted on 16.7.03 1913.11 Reposted on: 16.7.10 1917.12 | I took a quick look through and didn't see a thread like this (although I may have glanced over it.)
Allright, what is the WORST ending to any video game you have ever played? Something that just made you so unbeliveably pissed when you realized you'd wasted 10-20 hours of your life to beat a game. I've got a few quick ones:
Jurassic Park for Super Nintendo: 7 hours of straight-through playing, no ability to save, difficult gameplay (I was only 12 or so at the time), and what am I rewarded with? The sound of a helicopter and a 3-D, texturless overview of the island.
Rampage for Nintendo: Rented this one with a friend way back in the day. After staying up all night to beat it, we get a "Thanks for Playing" screen after all our hard work.
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: After you lay an ass beating on Gannon, save the princess, and the world...everyone sits around a fire and sings campsongs. Promote this thread! | | Quezzy

Metal Gear(NES) Ride up an elevator and an explosion takes place. Never mind that you never see a Metal Gear at all.
Final Fantasy 7 - Loved the first disc, 2nd disc was ok, 3rd was side quests and finishing the game, but the ending was too open ended and kind of bleh. | The King of Keith

We'd often get sick of it after five hours and just shut it off. Imagine our disappointment when we finally did finish the game. Ugh. I can't second that enough.
Also, Jaws for NES gets a mention here. Game ruled, though. | dMr

The lack of acknowledgement for winning 5 straight champions leagues in Championship MAnager also left me a little peeved. FIFA games also pretty much suck as far as celebrations go. And Madden games. In fact just sports games in general piss me of in that respect. | Toast Jr

We use all that hard earned $1 mil and we get a crappy, and meaningless FMV that features Mr. Burns distraught but happy, and then Kang and Kodos yakking about how tiresome this expierience was. They could've made an ending FMV with The Simpsons with some credits (the credits would have clips from the show). What is this? a wimpy Treehouse of Horror episode? D'oh

| #14 Posted on 18.7.03 1348.20 Reposted on: 18.7.10 1348.21 | Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (NES) - One of the hardest final bosses I've ever seen after an incredibly long game that did have password saves, but the ending was a screen with a few words and the logo on it. It took me ten tries with the Game Genie to beat the Judge.
The Tick (SNES) - If I'm not mistaken, the ending was the same as the Game Over screen, except that it didn't say Game Over. The game was incredibly long, didn't have any sort of save, and was badly tested because after the 10th level it would freeze a lot. I had to rent the Genesis version and use the level select code to beat it. I tried to just use the level select to get as far as I had gotten before it froze, but it would freeze on every level.
I've found that most games, especially 16-bit games and lower, DON'T have satisfying endings, so it's best to just take satisfaction in completing it. | Ender

What are you talking about? That was a brilliant ending to a brilliant game!!! ... Well... sort of. At least it kept up with the idea of what Myst is about. Though, when I beat it, I can't say I did all that much more exploring. At least Riven and Exile had a little more... REAL endings. I still think Riven is one of the most brilliant games ever made... and yes, I did beat it without cheating even though it's horrendously impossible.
I don't think there's a wrestling game yet that I've ever been satisfied with the ending. Wrestling games tend to be pretty bad that way. Actually, most sports games in general tend to have pretty lame endings.
I know it's not a terrible ending or anything... but I really hated the ending to Homeworld. It didn't feel particularly satisfing at all.
Oh, and yes, I'd agree that Mario 2 had a terrible ending. I think I'll vote for that as the WORST... ENDING... EVER! | Shem the Penman

| #18 Posted on 22.7.03 0148.40 Reposted on: 22.7.10 0148.44 | Chrono Cross...by far. Even the blinking lights and the chirping noises on that painfully easy Knuckles Soccer game you get in a Burger King Kid's Meal if you beat all three levels was a better ending. Of course, I hated the hell out of Kid and stayed clear of any opportunity to save her life, which probably has something to do with it. But hey, I liked Harle WAY better and she got shafted. The ending consisted of (after the boss battle, the most boring one ever too, I must add) Schala floating in the air away from Lavos. WOW! AMAZING! That is if you think working on a game for about two years (I play other games at the same time) and getting diddly squat is amazing. I even endured the cheesy music hoping that it would have a better ending after the credits, like some games do, but that didn't happen. And that was a few hours of my life wasted that I will never get back. | Venom

If you can't FINISH the story (and really, the gameplay here felt like less than 15 hours so I have no clue why they couldn't fit more on the disc), don't even bother making it.
