Personally I love it. It's an idea I threw out there for all sports who have mid-season all star games. It adds some importance to it, especially players who are on top teams who it will effect them if they go to the finals.

I still think team with the best record is the best way to do it though.
Here's a scenario though, what if let's just say Mike Lowell comes up in the bottom of the ninth and hits the game winning homerun to win the All Star Game. Then gets traded to an American League contender who goes to the World Sereis, the series goes seven games and Lowell ends up NOT being the home team. So it's not a perfect solution but I think it's an improvement.

That being said, an exhibition game carrying that much importance on the potential outcome of the World Series is ridiculous.

I think if last-year's game had been in Tampa Bay or Denver this wouldn't have even become an issue, but since Bud "Conflict of Interest" Selig is the Commish and the game was in Milwaukee we've had to go with this crap. | Whitebacon

As for the complaints that they should let best record decide it, it's funny how no one was making that complaint before this year. The best record thing shouldn't work because theoretically we're talking about two separate leagues, although of course the leagues have become less separate in recent years. | ekedolphin

If they have to continue the travesty that is interleague play (one of the main reasons the all-star game is useless to many old fans now) at least have the league that wins the most interleague games win home field advantage. Maybe the all-star fiasco could be a tie breaker.
The idea that World Series home field advantage could be decided in the 13th inning of an exhibition game by people selected because their teams had to be represented is ludicrous. | Java

As opposed to what year it happened to be (odd for National, Even for American, (unless there is a strike, of course!))
So, I don't have a problem with the All Star game deciding home field, as it was just rotating before. I do agree however, that if interleague play is to continue, using the league records from it are a far better indicator. | dropmailnotbombs

| #13 Posted on 19.7.03 1647.46 Reposted on: 19.7.10 1648.41 | Was it good or bad for the game? Depends on who you are, and where you stand in the game:
1. It's great for teams that are actually in contention for a playoff run.
And take this scenario into consideration. Let's say the Atlanta Braves have the best record in baseball, while the Boston Redsox sneak in with the wild card. Under this new stip, Boston gets homefield advantage, because a guy on a LAST place team hit a 2-run HR to win the game.
Who say's you need destiny in your hands?
2. It makes voting for the allstar game non-important. With the current stip, the "top" players will play the whole game, while the other 'voted' players will watch, hoping to get in to pinch run. I'm not complaining, mind you. This is how it should be, but, alter the way we do the allstar game:
A) Mgr, sportswriters, GM's, and PLAYERS vote for each team while a FAN VOTE is held off for AFTER the season. Yes, baseball fans ... TWO ALLSTAR games. One at the traditional allstar break, and one during the offseason.

At first I hated the All Star game winner stipulation, then the AL won. Now Boston will have home field!
Though during the game, I cheer for players I like. I don't want to care for players I don't like, I thought MLB wanted to start selling it's players? So, why should it matter what League the play for? Do San Fran fans want to cheer for L.A. players? No. | Firecracker

Of course they'll have the home field advantage; so will the other 27 teams that don't make it to the Series.
Maybe your Sox can play my Reds in an exhibition game and the winner can have Ken Griffey, Jr!
Oh, and the idea that the AS game decides home field advantage is stupid. Home field in any series in any sport should go to the team with the better record.

The team with the best record should have home field advantage in the World Series. The season is 162 games long -- any team that can sustain the best record for that long of a season deserves to play Game 7 at home.
